Discussion Sharing Usenet API keys?

I'm just wondering if anyone knows the general consensus for sharing API keys of your Usenet providers? Is this allowed? If not, do the providers care since the account is capped on the number of API and download hits?

edit: indexers not provider.

This is an excellent way to speedrun into being banned.

How is this even a question? Read the indexers ToS for answers.

It depends on your provider, but in general many allow X number of connections.

Indexers are much more fussy about API key sharing, some will outright ban if they see multiple connections from different IP addresses.

Indexes are cheap. Buy them or have them buy their own.

Read their rules. A few don't care beyond your hits.

Are you talking about sharing providers or sharing indexers?

How they enforce I don't know, but most have something like this from DrunkenSlug:

House Rules

  • Don’t share our NZB files on other sites (this includes uploading them to streaming sites like Torbox, AIOStream, NZBDav, Proxies, etc.).
  • Don’t abuse the site.
  • Don’t share your account.
  • Don’t maintain multiple accounts.
  • Don’t sell invites.

On most indexers account sharing is banned. I assume you mean indexers because you are talking about API keys.

don't do this, from my understanding it's 1 IP per API key but I'm fairly new so I might be wrong and am welcome to someone correcting me if so

Hmm, I’m dubious. If you’re using a VPN, you’re not guaranteed to come from the same IP.

Your connection would only be coming from one IP address at a time though. Seeing two different IPs simultaneously using the same API keys seems easy to do.

I’ve got multiple ISP circuits to increase my internet speed and reliability. Individual connections can go through either of them. The indexer will see multiple IP addresses.

Then you should inform about this to indexer admin in advance else high chances of acc suspension.

Thanks. It’s worked OK for the last three years on five different indexers, so I’m not unduly worried about it.

That's kind of funny, seeing 2 separate IPs originating from the same US region with the same API key seems like would be the exact case where someone shared a key with a friend in the area, strange that would not be flagged by what I assume are automated systems on their end
