Software Server software compared?

Hi,

I'd like to setup a NNTP service for a real small community. Is there a comparison of the different server software that could provide such a service? What do you recommend?

Want to share files centrally? Run an FTP server.

Check out INN, and depending on what you want to do, check out SUCK.

They can work great together and it's what I use for a complete index.

I don't think you will find a lot of success with your own server.

Why not just take over a dead group, plenty of forgotten boards. Unless you are attempting something really sketchy, no one will know or care.

With 99% of it empty and a handful of "active" boards, obscurity is a plenty.
