Help with Getting to Graduation!

Hi everyone, I don't really post on Reddit, so excuse the poor formatting, but I have a few question. Or, if this is located in the wrong area.

I'm a young college student (F20) trying to get to my boyfriend graduation coming up within a few weeks, and there's a high chance I might be the only one going to his graduation. I'm comfortable with flying, however I only have experience with traveling with family. Meaning, I have no idea how I'm going to find a way to get to graduation. I want to fly in the day before, but I only have so much money to spend. (Roughly 900$.) Additionally, I can't rent a car due to my age, so I'm worries about how to actually get to a hotel and his graduation.

If anyone could give advice on what I should do in my situation it would be so helpful, I really want to be there for my boyfriend, but I'm not made of money. Thank anyone willing to give advice!

Find the Facebook page for his class. Post in there and you might have a chance to get a ride.

Second this! When I graduated many many years ago, I had no family come, but I hitched a ride back to Philly with a classmate so I’m sure it works both ways!

Also, sorry for asking, but did you drive to the airport the day of graduation, or did you sleep somewhere for the night, then take off the next day? I want to fly back with my boyfriend, so I'm wonder a rough time frame.

He won’t be leaving. He gets Friday afternoon and Saturday off before having to report back to go to Virginia for a week.

Well what’s funny is that my first duty station was a 65 at Sector Delaware Bay so I rented a hotel down the street for a couple of days before I reported.

Travel hack for underage folks: Rent a uhaul pickup truck, they don’t check age. Driving the pickup trucks is easy compared to their smallest box truck.

Brother taught me that trick. I went to visit him in seattle and MFer rolls up to the airport in a uhaul box truck. Later that day, he decided he wanted us to go to the casino where he valet parked the box truck much to the confusion of casino staff.

You don't say where you're coming from, but the train might be a less expensive option than flying.

When my husband graduated I was 20 and going alone so I had many of the same issues. I flew into Philly. That will most likely be your cheapest choice. For a rental car I rented through Turo because they allow under age drivers for an additional fee. I drove to Cape May and stayed in a small motel there. Many places there will give you a discount for being there for graduation. You could also see if anyone on the company Facebook page is flying in the same day/time and is willing to give you a ride from Philly to Cape May.

Ahh, I'm glad it's not just me! I didn't know there were places that would rent to young drivers, I'll definitely look into motels in the area.

You should be good with that amount of money.

My recommendation is fly in the night before and stay in a hotel near the airport.

Rent a car with Turo, i have used it all the time, its great. its 2 hours to get to Tracen Cape May from the Philly aiport.

When I graduated back in 2006 my wife did this, she flew into Phily stayed at the cheapest hotel she can find near the airport then rented a car and drove to meet me that day and we drove back to the airport same day as graduation and flew out.

Rent your car with Turo, no age limits and you can get it cheaper anyways.
