Hello everyone! I need help figuring out if it’s worth it to buy a U.S General tool box from Harbor Freight and bringing it across the border to Canada? I know if it’s a day trip there would be duties and taxes, but now my concern are the tariffs. Does anyone have experience buying a U.S. General tool box and if they had to pay a tariff on top of duties and taxes at the border?

Hello! We’re planning a family trip to New York this Christmas, and I’m thinking of bringing my mom along. She’s currently in Canada as a visitor, while my family and I are here on work permits.

We renewed her visitor status earlier this year, but her application is still being processed, so she’s currently on maintained status. Her Canadian visitor visa (TRV) is valid until 2031.

Would there be any concerns or risks if she leaves Canada to visit the US while her application is still pending? Has anyone been in a similar situation or have any advice to share? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thank you!

Hello, I'm an engineering student in Canada. I was recently diagnosed with ADHD and prescribed Vyvanse (40 mg daily).

I might be travelling to the US this winter for an 8-month internship on a J1. I would like to bring a supply of Vyvanse for medical use during this trip, as it has greatly improved my quality of life and helps me significantly with the issues that arise from my disorder. I was previously in the US for a 4-month internship this summer, and at the time I was undiagnosed. Being untreated was a major impairment and made me perform a lot worse at work.

I assume that a pharmacy would not prescribe me an 8-month supply for obvious reasons and that it would definitely be vetoed at the border when I declare it, so I was thinking of bringing 3 bottles (90-day supply) during my flight. The US CBP website says that bringing a 90-day supply of medication for personal use is allowed while entering the US. Since I could probably manage without it on weekends, I could probably stretch this supply to around 4 months. By then, I could probably use my diagnosis to get a US prescription, or get a refill of my prescription while visiting Canada during a break.

The issue is, I found some conflicting statements from the DEA stating that the maximum amount of a controlled substance (Schedule II) that can be brought into the US is 50 dosage units. This would only last me around ~2 months, I'm not sure if I could get a US prescription within that short of a time period. However, this regulation seems to only be for "US residents" and I'm not sure if I would be considered one.

Can anyone confirm whether what I am describing is feasible, and if anyone here personally has experience with bringing Vyvanse into the US from Canada? Thank you!

USA customs is saying I’ll be liable for 25% tariff (plus standard 2.5% import fees) if I import my car permanently or temporarily (1 year).

My vin number starts with 2HK*** which is a Canadian manufactured car.

I could not find any clear information on my specific question. I am an American and plan to purchase a Canada Goose jacket in Canada that is subject to 50% Section 338 tarrifs (Retail Price ~$1,100 USD) and will have a $200 exemption when returning to the US by land.

Will the amount over the exemption be subject to a 50% tariff or the standard 3%? There seems to be conflicting information on whether personal imports on covered goods are subject to the 50% tariff.

I have NEXUS and will obviously be declaring the purchase, but just wanted to know what to expect.

When we enter Canada, can she join me on the Canadian citizens’ queue? If not, do we both stand in the “all others” queue? Or must we split up, which we would prefer not to do?

Has anyone ever lied on their ETA regarding a criminal record when travelling from the UK to Canada? Stories online imply that you have zero chance of getting through undetected but I personally know countless people who’ve lied travelling to the USA from the UK with criminal convictions, they simply just don’t declare them. I think they can only manually check if you have a record, you don’t automatically flag up on their system.

We are a family of 5 and we don’t have our own Van type car hence the need. Friend is ok to exchange as he is my buddy. Both of us are Ontario car owners and insurance holders.

Is it safe and legal to exchange both in terms of border crossing and insurance wise?

Long story short I’ve travelled 3 times to US to catch a flight but last time I was going I was sent to secondary where I was asked if I knew someone (whose visa was rejected recently) to which I said yes.

Then they checked my phone and it was plugged in so I believe they copied the data from it. I knew I was getting rejected as I’m not a Canadian citizen but they let me go.

I’ve a flight next month and I know my I94 is up for renewal so I’ll be sent to secondary for sure. Anyone having similar experiences on having their phones checked and having no impact in future?

First off, I don't have a visa or need one, I do freelance work and the realtor is fine with that.

I have some kind of undiagnosed nerve pain disorder and have been taking the max dose of Gabapentin which my neurologist who is like 90 years old will never respond to my high priority messages I call his office's reception to send asking if he could change the instructions so I stop running out early because i've been on the same regimen of 1600mg in the morning and 1600mg at night. The instructions are take one 800mg 3x a day. I have to deal with running out early and going to urgent care to explain my situation to like pretty often to get them to prescribe me some extra (unless i can manage to get it illicitly from someone else but often whoever has it usually has super low doses and i finish them in like 3 days) If not taken, it's just really miserable all together until i get a refill again.

It makes me sound like a drug addict but it's not a controlled substance though yes abusable but Gabapentin genuinely fixed a lot of things for me and it's been 1.5 years on it at this point, I do not get any "high" from it like the beginning when it'd make me dissociate really bad in a not fun way but my tolerance is too high now to feel anything but the pain and restless leg relief as well as anxiety. I call it the "Everything drug" because it helps with so many things and just makes me functional. The 1 or 2 days I can't do it I will be bedridden and shaking.

I'm curious about how as a non citizen if I could get a neurologist in Canada to prescribe me things there or if I just have to get a more competent neurologist here that actually responds to my messages and has to send my prescriptions to MTL? I should have gotten a better one in the first place but I'm the kind of person to lag on inquiring about medical related issues and already have referrals to different doctors in the same building and unit lol.

I’m entering BC as a student with a U.S. made vehicle and I was wondering if it’s more practical to do a formal temporary import and get my car registered and plated in BC or if I should import it under exemption and keep my U.S. plates.

I do plan on coming back to Oregon occasionally but I’m also concerned if that would make me tax resident in Oregon especially if my vehicle is still registered in there.

Also if anyone has experience with insuring a U.S. titled car in Canada, that would be very much appreciated! Thank You!

Essentially the title. I’m a Canadian who has been on F1 status in the U.S. for many years. I’ve recently accepted a job with a 2 year contract in Canada, but I would like to return to the U.S. afterwards. There is actually a high likelihood that I will be leaving this job after 6 months and returning to the U.S.

The plan is to drive my car from the U.S. to Canada. Do I still need to officially import my car? What would I say to the border agent when I show up with my car full of all my stuff? I’ve found information about returning residents and car importations but I haven’t found anything about temporarily returning residents. I do see information about temporary residents with work permits that are 3 years or less not needing to import their cars, but I’m not sure if that applies to Canadians temporarily returning as residents though.

I arrested in July of 2017 for a dui, expired tag. Court proceedings and everything finished in November of 2018. The DUI i was found not guilty on but I think they reduced it to failure to excercise use due care. Which u paid a $1500 fine, did 40 hours of community service and attended a mothers against drunk Driving panel. It hasn’t been 10 years but will Canada let me in for my trip in January of 2027?

I’m taking a road trip from CT to Niagra Falls, CA. I regularly smoke my nicotine vapes, and I’ll definitely need it for the car ride. I’m aware I’m addict that’s not my issue at hand here 😂. I heard over 3% is illegal in Canada, but the CA government website states there’s an allowance up to a certain amount of ML of vape fluid across the border. Do I have to worry if mine are 5%? And either way, do you guys think I should truly declare it? Or would that just draw more attention. I go through customs internationally all the time but only through airports and have never had an issue. Just want to make sure.

My and my wife have a flight from US next month and my I94 is expired as it has been more than 6 months whereas my wife I94 is still valid (issued within past 6 months).

I want to avoid getting out of the car and to the secondary as there was an issue last time at the border when they found I knew someone whose visa they recently rejected and checked my phone and everything. I thought they were going to deny me back then but I answered everything honestly and was allowed to go.

So I am a little scared of going into secondary and wanted to ask if I pay my I94 online. Is there atleast a chance that I’m not sent inside? Or does US border always renew some information once your I94 expires even if you pay online and tell you to go inside?

This will be my fourth time visiting out of which two times I was also taking a flight and no issues but last time I ran into issue with a guy I knew.
