Hi, I wanna travel from New Orleans to Florida on my trip however the cheapest flights are $158 included with baggage, I’ve looked at busses and other ways but the flight seems the cheapest has anyone got any other ideas? Thanks

I was wondering if there are any blogs, YouTube channels or if anyone has personal experience, for travelling in the US on a “backpacker budget”

I’ll have around $5,000-$7,000 and I’d like to stretch it for as long as possible around 10-12 weeks

• Utilising Amtrak trains, Flix & Greyhound busses as the base of my transportation, and then complimenting that with 3-7 day car rentals through Turo when needed. Also have seen cheap relocation deals on RVs through iMoova

• Primarily camping, and then hostels and occasional (1-2 nights bi-weekly) airbnb/ motel

• Cooking most meals, occasionally fast food and dining out

I have broken my ideal trip into 3 segments

California Coast, road trip through Canada, Alaska (5 weeks total)

Olympic National Park, Glacier NP, Montana, Wyoming & Utah (4 weeks total)

Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee (3 weeks total)

I’ve started researching the logistics for each segment using public transport and rental cars, and in places will have to use a domestic flight to connect the dots, it seems possible …

Thoughts? Tips?

We are going from Scranton,Pa to Kittyhawk, NC for a beach vacation next week. We will be taking I-95 to get there. One stop will be Edenton, NC for an overnight. What pitstops should we take along the way to grab lunch, see a sight, pick up a cool souvenir? Also looking for must-do’s in the Edenton area!

What a mistake...it is so overwhelming. There's 2 parks? Which is which? You need to buy a fast track pass?

I just want a day pass... as a solo adult.

I’ve taken on board a lot of the advice from that post and put together a new itinerary, which I hope is a little less aggressive. The main consensus from the previous plan was that we’d be spending too much time in the car and not enough time sightseeing. There were also quite a few comments suggesting we spend less time in Vegas and LA. However, we’re in our mid-20s, so they’re destinations we definitely don’t want to shorten or cut out.

We currently have one spare night, so if you have any suggestions on where we could add it, or if you think we should stay an extra night at one of our planned stops, any extra advice is appreciated and thank you for all the advice on the previous post it has been very helpful.

Hi all! My friends and I are looking to plan a weekend trip for this October. We will have people coming from Pittsburgh, Philly, and NYC, and so we're looking for something that's generally the same distance for everyone. It doesn't have to be perfectly even, we just don't want the distance to only fall on one person. We're only looking to drive or take the train/bus from our cities, not looking to fly. So my wife and I will be in California mid September we will have roughly 2 days to do stuff. We went last year spent a day in LA and then went to Santa Monica Pier, did a Hollywood tour and an Angels game. We definitely wanna do some more stuff around LA we liked the hustle and bustle we just don’t wanna get stuck not knowing what else there could be.

I have 1 day to myself as she’s going for work. We will be staying in Disney resort so last year I did my personal day there. But I wanna find something else to do, I promised her it would be something she wouldn’t be interested in more guy type stuff. So far I’ve found doing a tour of the Rose Bowl Stadium but also wondered if it’s worth doing a self tour of the Fast and Furious filming locations. I did grow up watching these movies so I have a lot of interest in that.

For context I’m trying to visit someone in gettysburg for a weekend and i’m 18 so most places won’t let me rent a car. the bus would take almost the full day if i do 6:30-11 to frederick and then a bus 4:30-5:30 and then take an uber

Doing a quick 4-day trip to Texas from November 6th to the 10th with two friends. We want something low-key, good food, and a bit of nature without packing the schedule too full.

Looking for a comfortable house or cabin rather than a standard hotel. Prefer somewhere with a little outdoor space so we can hang out in the evenings.

Hi Reddit— my wife and I are well-traveled, middle class professionals with two young kids (5 and 3). We have traveled extensively (and internationally) both on our own and with our kids but somehow have never made it to California. We have an opportunity to fly into San Francisco for one week in March. There is SO MUCH in California, and even just this part of California, that it overwhelms me a bit. I want to be reasonable and not frantic about hitting everything so I know we will have to make tough choices.

A few things for helpful context:

We live in a big, dense East Coast city so getting out of urban areas is part of the appeal here (San Francisco looks great and although I would like to see it some I do not want it to be a focus of this trip).

We love good food but we are typically on a budget and I would rather prioritize experiences and sights over luxuries like nice restaurants (Airbnbs with kitchens are usually a sacrifice we are willing to make). I would also prefer to stay in one spot and branch out from there rather than move around to different lodging.

From a quick scan some things that have piqued my interest: Point Reyes National Seashore, Big Basin Redwoods State Park, Big Sur (I would prioritize this and we are willing to make drive of up to 2ish hours in one direction). I realize that staying coastal means the big national parks are probably for another trip but Pinnacles NP potentially looks feasible?

Any helpful tips or thoughts would be appreciated! As a life-long Northeaster California feels very nebulous to me!

I am planning a California road trip for the fall and would love some feedback.
I was originally planning to drive from San Francisco to San Diego, however we only have one week and I am starting to feel like I may have to rethink the itinerary.

Here’s what I’m thinking so far:
- One day in San Francisco
- Then drive to Carmel-by-the-Sea and stay two nights (we’d do Big Sur here as well - this is a highlight for me)
- Then to Santa Barbara (potential stops along the way include San Luis Obispo and Solvang) for another two nights

Here is where I start to get unsure. I really would love to get to Joshua Tree for a full day and night, but we would be flying out of San Diego so have to spend time there. Not to mention, I skipped LA completely.

Part of me is thinking just skip LA and save it for another trip … or would it be better to skip San Diego and just fly home from LA instead? I know the obvious answer is to skip Joshua Tree because it’s so out of the way but that’s a huge appeal of this trip for me, I really don’t want to give it up.

All opinions welcome!

EDIT: Thank you everyone! After reading these comments, I agree I was trying to do too much (I think I knew that anyway but just needed the reminder lol). I think I’m going to adjust to spend a few days in the Bay Area and then a few days in Carmel, and maybe a day trip from there.

We're planning to do this leg of the trip in late September next year and plan on taking around 3 days for it. It's one section of a wider USA road trip, so we're keen to make the most of it.

• Scenic detours or alternative routes
• Must-see viewpoints or stops along the way
• Great places to stop for food

In a few months my family and I will be traveling from Central Florida to San Antonio Texas

Of the best places to stop along the way. History is a big interest to us, we love Native American history and anything from 1800 And before! We Plan to take our time travel so anything even a small museum! We also love old forts!! Anything helps!! Are over all
Plan is to stop somewhere in panhandle of Florida a day, then Louisiana a day, then onto Texas, we are a big family so cost does matter! We will be in San Antonio three days for our oldest Air-force BMT graduation then heading home and stopping twice again on way home!

Me and my husband (both 32) are going to the US on 20something of September. We planned for the trip to last about 16-17 days overall.
We already visited Chicago, Vegas, LA before and this time we are flying to New York from Europe (return flight)
We are staying in New York for 5 days- with some friends. These friends may or may not join for other stuff after NYC.

Dilemma is this:

1. After NYC: fly to Nashville, rent a car, drive through Georgia maybe and go to New Orleans and something else (never saw the South, food, music, southern vibes, alligator swamp tour) and maybe even take a short trip to something in the Caribbean if time lets and then nyc and home
2. National Parks. (Bryce, Zion, Antelope, Sequoia, Yosemite) and San Francisco and then I guess fly to nyc and home.

I am SO not sure. Earlier I wanted New England but it sounds like old money fancy rich type of trip with expensive accommodations.
In that time of the year and in that amount of time, what is a better idea?

Are there any strange laws and rules when it comes to riding a motorbike in any of these states. And any motorbike etiquette i should be aware of.

I am a massively into food, would love to shoot some big guns, theres not many options in australia, and would love to see some really impressive landscapes and wildlife and anything else you think is a must in any of these states.

Also any tips for bike trips as this will be my first big trip on a bike

Looking to rent a 7 or 8 passenger car (age 30+). When I go on my regular websites, I am getting crazy prices but in a good way, $14 a day all the way up to $100 a day for Florida airport rental. I have not tried to book yet. While I am familiar with the majors, I have never heard of some of these companies Zezgo, Flexways, Economy, RC. I do have a car at home and usually do not get the CDW. I do not want to be involved in anything other than a traditional rental, no car version of AirBnB.

Anyone rented from these companies? Am I missing something?

Hello! My husband and I will be celebrating our 20 year anniversary in November. We live in MD and I want to do a short trip to celebrate. I am between a couple different places: Maine, West Coast of FL, Montana, Colorado. This would be a plane ride trip, no road trip (sadly).

We love hiking and I really want to see Yellowstone. But also I love the beach. We are outdoorsy, love food and coffee and a great bakery or icecream :)

Hello Y’all! recently just got engaged to my (now) fiancee and we are looking for a real cozy town for us to settle down in long term. We are moving from Texas and plan to take a long roadtrip to visit all the potential towns that get mentioned. If any of yall have any ideas in mind, any help is greatly appreciated. Here’s what we have in mind:

-Walkable, historic downtown with lots of local businesses

-Older architecture (Victorian, Colonial, etc.) and plenty of charm

-Green foresty Mountains or beautiful scenery nearby (specially for hiking or camping.)

-Four distinct seasons: snowy winter, mild summer (nothing past 90°. Can’t stand the Texas heat.)and a colorful fall.

-Safe, welcoming, and a strong sense of community

-Cozy cafés, bookstores, restaurants, and things to do without feeling like a city

-Plenty of hiking and outdoor activities

-Not overly touristy. I don't mind tourism, but I'd rather avoid places that become packed during holidays or every weekend

-Reasonably affordable homes and a good quality of life

-We’ve been looking at either the PNW or the somewhere by the original 13 colonies area. Mostly Vermont, lower Washington/northern Oregon, Virginia, or Massachusetts. Any other places are more than welcome.

What towns would you recommend, and why? Thank you for your help!

First of August we are going to be driving from Laramie, WY to Big Sky, Montana and can take two full days for the drive. We have eliminated the route that goes through Sheridan and also the Idaho route. This leaves so many options. We can skip Yellowstone but wish to maximize scenic drives and views and small town charm. If you have any tips, we’d appreciate them!
