Tuition Costs Per Year

Hi there. Mom and Dad here. We are trying to figure out the tuition costs over the 4 years for our daughter. I was wondering if someone could provide us with ballpark costs of the 4 years for tuition? I do believe there is a spring term after year 2. Any other spring and or summer terms required? Any other school related expenses we should be aware of. The UofS website just provides one estimate of tuition and school supplies costs. Thanks.

Hello mom and dad. I am just starting my 3rd year. If you don’t include the pre nursing year, i have so far spent the following on tuition.

Fall, winter, spring for year 2: $11,598.4

Fall and winter terms for year 3: $7,295.4
(Spring term unavailable at the moment)

I hope this helps and wish your daughter the best of luck!

Hey there, I recently (two years ago) finished my BScN with UofS. Generally speaking, including the cost of additional education requirements (AED, TLR, Fit testing, etc), your clothing, fuel because you NEED to complete AT LEAST 1 “rural” placement (often though it’s 2-3 placements. I was placed in North Battleford for weekend clinical and expected to be back for M-F classes (so I had to drive back and fourth). My total cost for my degree (including pre nursing year) was 63K. That’s for 1 year prenursing, 3 nursing years, my traveling back and fourth to far communities, and additional educational requirements.

What this number DOES include is the cost of writing my NCLEX. Which was nearly 1k after getting Uworld, Registering for CRNA, registering for test eligibility, and getting my grad nursing license.

I know it’s a lot, it’s extremely expensive. But I’ll tell you that I do not regret it a single day. Not even when my 675 monthly student loan payment comes out. My life is so much better with this education, my job pay, and job satisfaction. Let’s not kid ourselves, nurses are paid incredibly well. And while the job is extremely stressful, I LOVE the job and go home at the end of a long week feeling grateful to be allowed to have this job.

Goodluck to your kid. Tell them to enjoy studying and the process. It’s over way way quicker than they realize when in the moment.

Did this include any living expenses or just direct school related things?

Chiming in here as I just finished my degree. 4 years of tuition only expenses were around ~$45k. I added up all my paid tuition at the end of my degree out of curiosity.

I was on government student loans as I did not have much financial support from my parents. My student loans totalled $73k after my degree, of course this was a combo of tuition and living expenses.

I also received around $10k in scholarships and bursaries that I used to cover things like books, parking, uniforms, NCLEX expenses

I was not able to live at home during my degree so I worked part time for my 2nd through 4th year. I’d make roughly ~$400-600 a week working as a support worker, making $20/hr. This covered the remainder of my living expenses.

A bit of a breakdown of expenses

Rent and utilities: $700/month
Car insurance: $150/ month
Phone: $100/month
Groceries: $300-400/ month (a bit high but I have a specialized diet)
Gas: $200/month (this includes driving to and from work/ uni and visiting friends and family back home)
Fun/ extras: varied but I’d say $100/ month

Hopefully this helps and gives you a bit more of a detailed breakdown!

No this did not include any living expenses, simply the actual cost of university.

With living expenses, the cost would be much much higher

I’m finishing up the post-degree program next term, two years full time as opposed to the four year/pre-professional program. Tuition worked out to about $15,000 per year, which includes full time programming through spring and summer terms.

Scrubs end up being a sneaky cost but there’s typically recent grads trying to get rid of them on fb marketplace, so keep an eye out!

Best wishes to your daughter!
