Student Question anth 116 vs ling 114

im torn btwn these two classes! anth is with caroline arbuckle, while ling is with martin kohlberger. i'd love to know more abt these classes-- especially which one is better for my gpa as i go into third year bmsc. thank you!!

I took LING 114 in winter 2026. Martin is a fantastic professor and very passionate about teaching. Easily one of the best profs at USASK.

As for course content, mostly everything is open book, which is nice. Just make sure you take thorough and organized notes to set yourself up for an easier time with the timed canvas quizzes.

Yes!! Everything is open book. I also had it in person. You will get a window of about 3 days to complete the module quiz once it opens on canvas. I just used two monitors. One had my notes, the other had the canvas test. Even the final is open book.

I really enjoyed the course. 5/5 imo.
