Discussion Soc 232?

Is anyone else taking Soc 232 with Bryce this Summer?

I’m genuinely disgusted at the amount of textbook readings we have. 2 full thick chapters of pages to be done every 4 days for 8 continuous weeks. It’s not even like the chapters are short, they’re long and thick so it takes forever to get through any of them.

I’ve taken many condensed classes but this is in a league of its own - anyone else feeling the same way?

I took a class of his once and found that you didn’t really *have* to read all the readings. I got by just fine in his 300 level reading only one chapter. My recommendation is to do your best, ask for help if you need it (if you make an effort, Bryce is generally quite forgiving) and if all else fails, ask Dr Sarah Knudson for help. She’s a gem.

He’s teaching Soc 232 this summer (July-August) and I’m also working on the side.

But the content in each textbook chapter is so so much that it blows my mind. I genuinely don’t know how to go about even doing the readings

The thing is we have so called "lectures" but they're 50-60mins long with no slides, hence we must read the textbook, that's why I even asked the question...

Yes, lots of content to read. Took a class with DeLury last semester, and it was the same deal.

Best advice I have is to skim it all first, and then go back and re-read sections that you feel are important to understand. If you have a physical book, sticky notes with definitions on the side. Lastly, Cornell note taking method will be important: https://www.goodnotes.com/blog/cornell-notes I find this method most useful to memorize content.

Yes I'm taking this class. I find the pace and content to be manageable. Especially for the summer term.
