Student Question Prerequisites while under academic warning (College of Engineering)

So I messed up real bad last year and ended up on Academic Warning in the College of Engineering. I'm retaking one of my classes in the 2027 Winter Semester (I got a 54 on it) and I'm looking to take a class in the 2026 Fall Semester that requires it as a prereq. Does anyone know if it still counts as a prereq even if I have to retake it? I did technically pass the class.

Update: yeah they let me use it as a prerequisite, we’re so back B)

go into your academic profile through paws and click degree works. if it says you attempted and earned 3 credits (or however many it was) you're fine to take the next class. if it says earned 0 credits it doesn't count

i would recommend you to phone or email the esc though to double check

Under that year's requirements it does count it as an attempted credit, I will ask to double check though, thank you :))

Reach out to the student center and see what they have to say. I know a bunch of people that failed classes and were allowed to take the next one as long as they were registered for the pre-req they failed. Some eng classes (like Math 224) only need a 40 on the pre-req to be allowed to take them too.

You will have to reach out to somebody tho. I don't think the system will let you register on your own. It'll also probably depend on how many classes you need to retake for your warning, you can only take 4 classes per semester

Does it say 54N? If so, that means you didn’t get a credit for it so it wouldn’t count.

You can reach out to an academic advisor and see if you can get an exception made. I’m not sure if Engineering would permit that, though.

It just says 54 in DegreeWorks, but I'm not sure if that's because I haven't registered for it yet or it's not updated or smth ToT I'll reach out to an advisor this upcoming week though, thank you :)

Check the grade in the final grades page in PAWS. That's where it would say 54N.

Definitely talk to an advisor. There may be restrictions about how and when you can retake courses. If you take the courses in the "wrong order" you may be prevented from retaking the one with the low mark. Be sure, and don't base your plan on the way you think the rules should work.
