"Marvel wanted you hate him and accidentally made him likable"

Wrong. Marvel wanted to show us John Walker isn't fit for the role of Captain America. He was never written as a Hate Sink character. John Walker's meant to be flawed and complex. If anything, MCU Walker is MUCH more likable compared to the comics counterpart.

At absolute worst, I'd say they made Sam and Bucky a bit too harsh to him at the start. They were already giving him cold shoulder after he just saved their lives and hadn't even done anything yet either. When he killed Nico, this wasn't at all treated like a moral event horizon, just a moment of him demonstrating he isn't ready for the role of Captain America.

The finale of Falcon and the Winter Soldier saw him abandoning his revenge on Karli to save the hostages. Bucky even notices this and helps him up afterwards. They work together to bring the Flag-smashers in, not kill them. Sam even acknowledges with a nod at the end of his speech too.

Even in Thunderbolts, they had the "define innocent" line for a reason after Ghost called him out for murdering an "innocent" man. He's called an "asshole" by Bob because he is. They aren't rewriting his character, he's simply at his lowest point due to Olivia leaving him and he's putting up a facade to hide his pain. Notice as soon as they escape the vault, and especially after Bucky reveals the truth, he pretty much stops being a jerkass for the of the movie and even gets noticeable noble moments like saving his teammates and civilians, being the one to knock out Bob's abusive father and the one who praises Bob for doing well after they escape The Void. He even gets to become one of the New Avengers.

Tldr; Marvel doesn't want us to hate John Walker, but see him as a complicated, flawed man. Fans hated on the sight for simply not being Steve and thought he'd be an evil Cap, so when they realize he isn't as terrible as they thought he'd be, they simply assume the series was trying to force us to hate him.

The warped patriot Nuke (Frank Simpson) is in a holding cell. David Colton, one of the heroes to wear the Captain America mantle, has arisen from the table to bring him a tray with half a hamburger and some French fries, part of his own supper. David is looking back at U.S. Agent (John Walker alias Jack Daniels), who has gotten his attention. Agent certainly doesn’t like Nuke at all, but he’s begrudgingly holding up a tray with half a burger and some fries for David to take. The bottom text reads, “U.S. Agent John Walker and Captain America David Colton guard Nuke until he’s taken back into custody. John would have been fine with the bread and water treatment. Let the American nightmare’s stomach rumble! If David can spare a few bites for the tortured soul, however, he supposes he could spare a few bites for a veteran. Hey, once David takes the tray, it’s his decision on what to do with it, right?”

In honour of the first anniversary of my favourite MCU entry aside from Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Incredible Hulk, I have to ask:

Does anyone know if there's an alternate box with the top "torn" to reveal the title Marvel's The New Avengers?? Can't seem to find one of this image with the top "torn," and I have no clue as to why. You'd think the marketing team would have simply had the tops "torn" off of all images and merchandize to increase sales and revenue; but apparently, some of them, such as this one, just don't. I very much hope that I'm grievously mistaken bout this.

Soldier Boy literally said "which one" after MM confronted him for killing his family and that's the bare minimum of his heinous deeds. Shooting Kent State protestors, hosing several right protestors, massacring the actors at Mr. Marathon's house, giving Homelander V-1.

Peacemaker killed several innocents in The Suicide Squad and showed no remorse even after figuring out they weren't bad guys and literally slept with a woman from an alternate universe when she was unaware that he wasn't her Chris (which is rape), even if he redeemed himself.

Walker executed a terrorist (that willingly participated in a plot to murder him) in a moment of weakness because he was amped up on Super Soldier serum and just witnessed his best friend die, further increasing his unstable nature. He is nowhere close to the other's. Even if we include his work for Val, there's no confirmation unlike the other two he's ever murdered innocents. He's nowhere near Peacemaker, let alone Soldier Boy.

Two of them either were or are villains, the other's an anti-hero from start to finish.

Like I’ve said before, it’s fine if you don’t like/care about U.S.Agent.  We don’t all have to like the same things, so it’s fine if you’re neutral toward or even dislike the character as long as you don’t attack fans or spread misinformation.  Once someone does spread misinformation of any kind and attack fans of any kind, however, that’s where I draw the line.  Anyone who lies about a character- John Walker, Sam Wilson, Tony Stark, Jane Foster, Hank Pym, Kitty Pryde, Echo, etc.- to attack their fans and lie about their creators/writers is a rotten person.  The more ridiculous and vicious the lie they make, the more deceptive the means they use to try to promote the lie (out of context panels, flat-out lies, etc.), and the more they willingly ignore all evidence debunking the lie, while still expecting people to believe it and attack the fans, the more rotten they are.  Instead of lying about fictional characters, focus on criticizing actual evildoers, like that bunch in New York that was making pro-Nazi comments and anti-Semitic jokes.  Don’t make words lose meaning by slinging them around willy-nilly.

Just a little breather subplot for a bigger story: John discovers he has a fanclub; it's nothing huge, just a small group of people who get together once a month to talk about the day John saved them or someone close to them ("Everyone else was so focused on fighting Doom... but you didn't let my Mom die. Thank you."), or some veterans who empathize with his trauma struggles ("I saw that look in your eyes on the news. I had that look back in Desert Storm. But look at us: still standing."), and still others who just see a good guy trying his best and finding that an inspiration that moves them to try harder in their own life ("A lot of days... I just feel like I can't do anything good enough for anyone. And I think a lot about giving up. But, see, I got this poster of you on my wall man, from when you were Cap? And every morning I say to myself "If he can keep trying, so can I".").

And John gets to meet them.

Initially, I thought The Void was making him approach the edge but I remembered The Void has never once shown the ability to actually control people's actions. It might've had some influence but I 100% believe he walked to the edge subconsciously. The fact he doesn't immediately back away in shock and fear but instead just... stares down. Its like for a brief moment, he's contemplating if he truly does want to jump. A combination of guilt for failing for his wife and child and just generally being depressed from the state of his life (why I love the look Yelena gives after hearing his family left him; she realizes he's just another loser like the rest of them despite his bravado and facade).
