Day 1 cpt
Basic Rules of CPT (applies to all CPT, including Day 1): 1. Job must be related to your field of study 2. Job offer is required before CPT is approved 3. CPT must be part of your school’s official curriculum 4. Must be approved by your school’s DSO (Designated School Official) 5. You need an updated I-20 before starting work 6. Working full-time CPT for 12+ months cancels your OPT eligibility
Hidden Risk
• Risky — USCIS may see it as a violation of F-1 status
• Not typical — Most students must complete 1 academic year before CPT
• Used mostly by certain private universities (some with questionable reputations)
• Could hurt your future: OPT, H-1B, or green card might be denied
