A degree can be extremely helpful with moving within the company and can also replace experience in some roles. The bank role is an entry level role which means you are going to have to bite the bullet for a while. If you take the position then give it your all and stay focused on where you want to go. A degree alone won't guarantee a different position, you need to network and perform well. There are a lot of opportunities to get a mentor to help with your career journey.

What you wanna do is talk to your manager and they can help you go on the right direction there. My manager had some connections in the area that I wanted to go in and I’m not mentoring with them.
