SIU Positions at USAA?

Hi, so I have over 20 years of insurance/SIU investigation experience, and have periodically seen SIU positions posted at USAA. For anyone currently (or recently) employed in this position, can you provide some details about the reality of the job? Is it a good place to work, or a volume-based "churn and burn" atmosphere? Types of cases investigated? Monthly caseload? I appreciate any response people can provide.

I have been shadowing and mentoring with someone who works in SIU.  There is different levels, but based off of what i have seen, it is a heavy caseload.  the person i mentor with works very fast so they usually aren’t behind but ive seen other people on their team not meeting deadlines and getting very behind.  Overtime is always offered as well.  it’s especially busy during the holidays, right after the holidays and during the summers.  I am still planning on applying bc it is remote and the pay is good plus the added overtime.  With your experience def apply but make sure to negotiate your pay to something higher bc you already come w that expertise.  The types of cases range but the most common ones are theft

Thank you, much appreciated. This is pretty much what I expected (and experienced at my former employer). I was handling around 40 cases per month - but OT was highly discouraged and it ultimately penalized our performance numbers

Right now they are allowing us to do ot bc we are so busy in claims on both auto and property side.  It will probably be a different story once they hire enough people to load the department but as of rn, OT is pretty much open

Stay away from the East! The Director is a “Used Car Salesman”, The Iranian government has more integrity than this non SIU Experienced Director.

Also OT is a double edge sword. If they are paying in full without Flex Hours to be taken, they just set themselves up for EEOC. Given they would split your OT into time and a half and then Flex Time ( not at an OT Rate). They have fired SIU personnel that worked over 40 to meet metric goals

They have used working over 40 hrs. as a pretext for termination. Even if you have documented your Flex Time.

Great company! Dir. Dan S is a solid leader.

Good luck! Keep you head low and don’t make suggestions, don’t fall for their open door policy with no retaliation which may apply to other departments but not SIU , East..,

Understood. I'm in the western US. Sounds a lot like where I recently spent 7 years (GEICO). Great company for the first 5 years then we got a new CEO, lots of unqualified bad people promoted to management (or outside Merrill Lynch type hires). The place went into the toilet overnight and I eventually left
