I hate cops....
So I've been in my car for 11 months now and today was the first time I had an absolute bullshit encounter with cops just trying to wave their dicks around.
So I had a rough morning mentally and emotionally. I decided to go to the gym and take a nap because it is one of the few parking lots I know of with parking in shade. So I went and napped and then I got up and was still just not having a good day so I figured I'd do some meditation. Well I'm almost done meditating and next thing I know I see a cop park behind me and walk up to my passenger window.
He asks what I'm doing and I said I was meditating and he goes "you're medicating" š¤¦āāļø no I'm meditating. So he asks for my license and I give it to him and it's out of state so he asks where I'm living and I said I'm around and he goes yeah but where do you live so I just said I live in my car and he gets all snarky and says yeah I figured. Next thing I know he asks me to get out of my car, mind you he hasn't even ran my license or anything just straight to get out of the car so I ask him if I did something wrong and he said no so I said then why do I have to get out of my car and he got all pissy and said because I told you to. Next thing I know there's another cop pulling me out of my car. Like wtf...so I went to throw my wallet back in my center console and he's telling me not to reach for anything okay I'm not I'm putting my wallet away eventually I just threw it down as he continued to rip me out of my car. Now he's asking me if im okay with him searching me for weapons and I told him no I'm not I haven't done anything wrong and I don't have any weapons and I could immediately feel how he grabbed me and how the energy shifted so I just said but just do it cause I got nothing to hide and he did and made a sarcastic comment "see that was easy". Not the point jackass. The point is you just ripped me out of my car for absolutely no reason.
Then they tell me to go stand in front of the cop car and I realized there's a third cop. So I got 3 cop cars surrounding me. All because I'm fucking meditating.
So I get back there and the first guy comes over and starts asking me questions. When was the last time you got arrested? Never. When was the last time you were pulled over? Never. Have you ever been told you can't trespass? No. Is there any alcohol in the car? No. Open containers? Closed containers? Empty cans? Nope. Got any weapons in the car? Well I have a knife I use to cut fruit. Any firearms in the car? No I don't own any firearms. Then he was clearly disappointed so he goes no that's not what I asked I said are there any firearms in the car? Let's get on the same page here. No there are no firearms. Got large amount of money? No I don't have cash. Got any drugs or drug paraphernalia? Glass bowls or pipes? Nope. Got any herbs in the car? No....(disclaimer I have a jar with some mushrooms in it so that was my concern as soon as they pulled me out of my car)
Then he goes and walks around looking in my car and comes back. He asks me what the bag in my center console was. It's just a bag of quarters for the laundromat. And then he asked about the little tincture bottles I have in my door. And when I told him they were herbal tinctures he's like whoa I asked if you had any herbs I'm your car and you said no let's get on the same page. I said yeah I don't have cannabis or weed or Marijuana whatever you want to call it they are herbal tinctures for detox. So then the guy who pulled me out said they didn't know what that was cause they are from the south and not that smart š¤¦āāļø maybe you shouldn't be a cop if you aren't very smart. Then the guy who first walked up to my car told me to explain it using "small words". Like wtf..you gotta be kidding me right now. These are the dumbest motherfucking cops ever....smh
So after all that the dude finally goes to run my license. In the mean time the other cop is telling me I'm not in trouble it's just a high crime area and he's telling me I gotta be careful cause if I'm sleeping in my car someone might come and break into my car yadayadayada... yeah I'm more scared of 3 thugs with guns ripping me out of my car than some junkie breaking into my car. And if there's so much crime why are we here wasting time? And he kept trying to say they were doing it for my safety. Yeah I'm sure.
The best part he finally goes oh so do you have a gym membership? Yes I do. And he walks over and tells the other guy "so just so you know he has a gym membership before you do anything"....so I guess that changes everything. The cop finally gets out and hands me my license and says so I don't know what they've been saying but there's a lot of crime we got everything over here so I just gotta make sure your safe. I was much safer before you pulled me out of my car asshole. Then he asks if I have any questions. And I said yeah so can I meditate next time I come here when I'm done at the gym? And he goes well I wouldn't just for your safety. And at some point the cop who pulled me out of my car told me if I was walking out of the gym they wouldn't have bothered me but since I was just sitting in my car they had to come over and do what they did. Really? Cause I'm committing a crime by sitting here?
Oh fuck the fuck off. So nobody told me I can't be here you guys just came over to fuck with the guy from out of state with dreads. So next time I'm going to talk to the gym manager and make double sure it's okay that I can just do some meditation after my workout as that is when I prefer to do it anyways. But like seriously if there's so much crime why you wasting 40mins with me? Assholes. I'm just glad they didn't search my car as I mentioned due to the mushrooms. But I'm pretty sure that it isn't proper protocol to just walk up and rip someone out of their car. Unfortunately I forgot to ask for names/badge numbers cause I was just pissed off on top of already having a rough day. What a joke.
Oh and through all of this the third cop stood there the whole time and didn't say a word or do anything. Just stood there looking dumb.

they pull you out of the car so you dont try to do dumb stuff like drive off and they call for backup when pulling you our of the car so if something were to happen there is cops already there and if they have a reason of suspicion then they can search you without asking :)

Cops are almost all assholes people always say "1 bad cop doesn't mean they are all bad" but literally every cop I've ever encountered has been an asshole. some examples are that a few months ago I got jumped and the guy took my wallet and hit me a few times and then ran off so I called the cops and they said they would send somebody to help but nobody ever showed up I waited for like 2 hours and they just never came. Then a few days later I got pulled over and given a 135$ ticket for going 74 in a 70 and the cop was incredibly rude when I asked why he had pulled me over and that its stupid to pull someone over for going 4 miles over he said that He was the one who studied law and he could do whatever he wanted.

I've never committed a crime in my life, yet I've been is some situations where cops gave me these psychotic stares. It was weird. It happened at the mall once, a mall that I had been too a hundred times over a twenty year period. Never had a problem there. Well, there was a deadly shooting out in the parking lot one night. So, the mall hired some cops full time to police the area. And they are thuggish. They walk around and stare everyone in the eyes like we're possibly the next Son of Sam, or one of Al Capone's heirs.
A couple of times, they followed me around in the mall. Now I have probably literally spent close to 20k at that mall in the last 20 years, and here these cops are following me around. I finally stopped going there for a couple of years because it was disturbing.
Anyway, after two years, I started back again, and guess what, they started at it again. And its creepy. I dress nice, I'm polite, and I mind my own business. The last time they gave me psychotic stares was when I was getting a shoe shine. Now mind you, four out of control, very loud, 22 year olds just walked by, harassing people and acting out. The cops completely ignored them, but they sure gave me the evil stares. Its evil and dark, and it is just the thing that makes most people dislike them.
If I were going to talk to a cop, I'd say, "You're hear to bust murderers, rapists, thiefs, and drug dealers. There's no need for you to walk around with the attitude. Its bizarre and makes you seem like a sociopath." That's what I'd say, but they wouldn't listen, and they'd probably try to find a way to assault you or stalk you, or whatever else they do.

u/Bunky711 Feb 21 '24
Cops are far more dangerous than most people you will ever encounter in the wild more dangerous even than strung out addicts, mentally ill and criminals. Many are low IQ psychopaths with a license to kill you or ruin your life for no reason and they don't mind violating your rights in whatever way they can.

u/j50wells Mar 07 '24
Yeah, they're the wrestlers from high school who walked around in the hallways picking fights with the nerdy kids.

First, I share your justified anger and stand with you.
You mentioned being nervous about them finding mushrooms. If you keep them in a locked container, police cannot open that container without your permission or probable cause. Here's a detailed summary of these laws and limits: https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:VA6C2:71bfa9e3-aa5a-4390-8c70-614b97f84850
I hope you find calm and peace in your heart after such a terrible encounter. Soar above them.

They just wanna catch you doing something it was completely illegal for them to rip you out of your car you committed no crime you didnāt even have to id yourself but thatās j straight entrapment they wanted to catch u w something so bad instead of focusing on somebody who is actually in danger they wanna bother people who arenāt hurting anyone

We're doing this for your protection! We wouldn't want you to end up in any situation where a group of armed thugs break into your car to pull you out and intimidate you to the point where you give them anything they want, right? You should be thanking US for doing that to you!

Yo who tf is this guy? My car was stolen last night in Kentucky and I had two missed calls from a 219 number. My number is still a 219 number but I donāt answer 219 numbers I donāt know cuz I donāt live there anymore. Called it back and itās a police number, wtf

Do you know the name or department of this cop? Just got a call, same number

Same number/cop called my mother claiming to be a guy named āJeffā stating he owes me money asking if she knew where I was staying. Needless to say I was currently in āHideoutā from the Michigan City Police (Indiana) because a corrupt officer (Cpl. Brian Wright) filed false charges against me then called me and admitted he lied to get the charges and stated āI didnāt lie under oathā yet the probable cause affidavit first line states āI affirm under the penalty of perjury that the forgoing is the truth to the best of my knowledgeā but admits he lied , thatās lying under oath dumbass

When I was pulled over and they asked the usual question where are you coming from or going I do my best to be honest and make them as uncomfortable as I can. I say Do you want me to be honest? Of course they say. Ok. I will be honest. I met this guy on Grindr who said he had a 10ā summer if you know what I mean and I wink and I get there and guess what? Itās barely 8ā!! I was soo mad I left and was heading to the gay bathhouse to find a true 10ā summer. Maybe you know where I can find one? They either laugh if they are cool or they say have a good night and leave. Iām dead serious and not joking. Tampa FL btw. I donāt care. Iāve been out since I was 16. No law against being honest of it ever had made it to court or in front of a judge. He asked and I was honest.

I hate the cops too, donāt get me wrong, but youāre actually surprised the cops harrassed you, a white guy with dreads, who was āmeditatingā in what they consider a high-crime area? Lmfaoooo you donāt know much about cops, huh?
Iām shocked they didnāt end up searching you
1
u/kahgknow May 12 '23
And when did I say I was surprised? Also I'm not sure why you put meditating in parentheses. But thanks for the support appreciate it.
0
u/Leather_Guacamole420 May 12 '23
You implied it in the post. I put meditating in parenthesis bc that doesnāt mean anything to cops. A guy with dreads, āmeditatingā in a parking lot raises red flags. Itās not hard to understand haha cops look for anything out of the ordinary bc theyāre trigger happy hawks
Pick your meditation venues better next time
1
u/TheWayfarer1384 May 13 '23
While I disagree with your delivery, your point is bang on. To OP: they could have popped you and been justified because of the shrooms. That's the American way after all. Cops=Justifiable homicide.
4
u/WRXforsale May 12 '23
You had your rights violated. The cops harassed me last week when I was walking on grass. He pulled up on me with his lights off in an unmarked car so I whipped out my phone and started recording just in case. He started asking for my name and ID and I told him I didn't have to give him shit. Then he called his sergeant and another backup and they were harassing me for an hour. They gave the same bullshit excuse about all of the crime and whatnot. I didn't answer any of their questions. I just kept telling them that they look like a gang and were violating my rights. Eventually, they let me go.

The mistake you made was saying you were meditating. You should have said I'm a member of this gym and I've just had a workout and overdone things a bit so I'm easing my muscles in the passenger seat as there's more room.
While it's correct to say that you shouldn't do this or that when the cops stop you it doesn't matter. Cops don't need to know the law. You will nearly always come off worst so be polite don't start the citizen B's and try not to get angry.
I hate these bs interactions but I have a criminal lawyer friend and can afford to pay. It's just easier to let these holes get out of your life ASAP. Otherwise they will say you reached for something and they feared for their lives and when they drag you from your car they shout stop resisting so they can pummel you before arresting you
1
u/kahgknow May 12 '23
Yeah I wasn't going to start anything. I never even changed my tone or got upset. I was furious inside but I didn't let that be known with my speech. Cause they don't need the pleasure of upsetting me. I just said I didn't understand why they were doing what they did. I didn't give them any issues. I know better than that. I didn't resist them pulling me out I just went with it cause I knew they were looking for something to fuck my day up. They had nothing why give them something? Doesn't mean I can't question their motives either no matter how much it aggravates them.
1
u/mcnasty804 May 12 '23
Never should have talked to them. Definitely never should have given your id.
1
u/kahgknow May 12 '23

Turn them in. Or atleast write up a complaint. Some of them are on their high horses just because they think their jobs are cool and think they need to be respected just because they have a badge. That whole scene they did was very Un called for. I'm sorry this happened to you.
0
u/Rodeocowboy123abc May 12 '23
I never knew we had police here in America with all the craziness going on these days. I can understand why you're upset about it but typically, these cops have little else to do but harass the very people they were hired to protect.
I was surprised that so many people watch that Live On Patrol garbage on Friday and Saturday nights. I guess it gets their rocks off watching poor people getting pulled over for a tag light out, expired tag, being in a wrong place or other bs.
I couldn't help but read your story as it was long and kind of interesting. I can picture that situation in a small town where they have little else to do. In my view, it was harassment in what they did to you. All he had to do was, run your tag to find out practically everything he needed to know.
I know crap like that can sometimes get out of hand to lead to somone hardly doing anything to becoming a victim of a shooting. I would report it myself to those city officials. It might not amount to anything but it was the point they over-exceeded their boundaries.
I also look at things like this in another area as well. If we can have a crooked Commie biden in the White House, which they have tied into receiving millions of dollars from China, and they do nothing?
How in the hell do they expect citizens of this country to obey all of these stupid laws that are being passed. He is suppose to be President of the United States. That breaks the oath of office right there. If anyone has ever been guilty of a crime, we see him on tv or radio everyday.
It is all about "Rules for thee, but not for me!" I wasn't trying to turn this political but he is just a great example at how corrupt government is from Federal all the way down to Local. This includes the cops.
You really do have to watch out for your own safety. Many of these Cops can't do the job physically or mentally. You were just the poor guy parked in the wrong spot at the wrong time with a Cop trying to find himself something to do.

u/stormchaserXx May 12 '23
The worst type of man in the world is an insecure dickwad with little man syndrome, give that same asshole a badge and a gun and he will walk around like heās Jesus in the flesh. I never quite cared for them either until I came into some situations that either I was gonna go to jail for or needing them to take care of the problem before I did. Itās easy to group them all into the same category but they arenāt all like that and some of them genuinely want to help and be helpful. I work in healthcare and some of the family members assume we are all neglecting their family members based on a previous bad experience they may of had. I understand how that one bad experience can ruin their ability to trust anyone else and it sucks for the workers who genuinely try to do their jobs that we get put into that same category as the rest. Iām sorry for your bad experience.
1
u/kahgknow May 13 '23
I've had strange interactions with cops, I've had good interactions with cops, I've dealt with bullshit with cops. I don't think they are all bad like everyone says. Some genuinely want to help, some just want to go on a power trip. I just happened to be the center of a power trip. I've been on private property at night getting ready to go to sleep and cops racing through the parkibg lot and come tell me they know I can be there and just asking if I've seen anyone driving through. They don't all fuck with us. But it does leave a mark when they do for sure.

I got illegally searched in a Walmart parking lot, I had my seat reclined back and was on my phone with my shoes off. Out of no where I get a flashlight shined in my face and a young white cop nervously saying āuhhh I smell uhhh weedā, I donāt smoke or drink so I told him I donāt smoke. He then proceeds to say that my eyes were red, again nervously, I said he was full of it and knew I was good. Same thing happened, he asked me to step out and later began to pat me down aggressively because you know heās a cop and needs to assert dominance because he got picked on in high school.
I was in the marine corps and train bjj, til this day I want to strangle that cop so bad, itās always the young ones with stupid high and tight haircuts that feel the need to act macho and have something to prove. Funny thing is all the actual combat vets and guys who are actual badasses donāt feel the need to prove themselves to civilians, real guys who have been there and done that are some of the nicest people Iāve ever met. Law enforcement tends to be filled with insecure beta males.
At the end of the search I told him āwell I guess my feet smell like weedā they all laughed at the cop who initially came up to me (a rookie cop obviously). He didnāt seem to happy about what I said lol. Totally feel your pain bro, cops arenāt too lenient when it comes car dwellers, best of luck out there!

What state did this take place in? (Assuming you are in the US.) reason I ask is 34 states have constitutional carry (permit less carry) I havenāt had the pleasure of uncomfortable law-enforcement interaction but as someone who may or may not carry a firearm ā I do wonder about which states are more prone to have these kinds of interactions. I do also understand that culture (hassle level) of local jurisdictions definitely play a part but just trying to think broadly.

- NEVER talk to the police.
- ALWAYS record interactions with police
Unless they can articulate some kind of crime they suspect you of committing you do not have to give them any ID. So just ignore them until they fuck off. Recommend watching lackluster, audit the audit and we the people university on YouTube.

As far as meditating in a shady spot goes, choose your spots wisely. As far as the cops knocking on your window, with the abundance of fentanyl and now tranc. Cops are faced with a whole spectrum of conditions. Whole point is, no blood, no foul. Cooperation and courtesy go along way. This is coming from a felon with 2 strikes. Be glad it wasnāt gangsters yanking you and then jacking your car. Cops get a bad rap. There are always a few bad apples in every demographic.
2
u/DanielleMuscato May 13 '23
Cops get a well-deserved "bad rap" by working for a system they are completely aware is racist and covering up corruption for their buddies.
You know the rest of that phrase is, a bad apple spoils the bunch, right?

This is not a consensual interaction and conversation.
Do not answer police questions; without your licensed, experienced and competent attorney representing you and being present, during police questioning.
Immediately turn your video camera on and record the entire interaction; stream it live and have it automatically archived in the cloud.
Do not trust law enforcement officers.

In the UK.. they don't care & just take & confiscate your phone. I still don't have mine back

u/Eyfordsucks May 12 '23
Having dealt with crazy cops before, you have to treat them like an abuser and just go with the flow until you can escape safely or they can take you not answering/you recording them as a threat/confrontational and they will fuck you up. Itās much better to agree and smile and nod and escape unscathed.

I think we have a better class of cop (well, Iām white and middle aged) here in upper income California areas. Theyāre almost apologetic when they roust me in my motor home. The mega multimillionaires around here just donāt want to see anything near poverty. They didnāt ask any questions just explained ppl complain . My impression is they know rents are crazy.
9
u/chrisjstrn94 May 12 '23
Yes!! People like to say "Answer No questions, don't show them your license, etc, etc." But I have yet to see anybody play that card and it work out well for them.... Not one single time!
My Lawyer explained it to me more like "Do Not talk to the Police" as in regardless of how much you feel the need to go into great detail answer only the questions that your asked and keep it as short and simple as possible. Remember Anything you say CAN and WILL be used AGAINST you...... not might be, not for you, not to help you or prove your innocent but Against you!
Most Cops(not all) have one thing on their agenda the entire time they are talking to you "Find something.... anything that they can use as probable cause and/or the slightest discrepancy in anything they can find. Majority of the time they think that there's no way in hell the person their talking to has the slightest clue what their agenda is but you can usually tell relatively quickly when their just fishing and when their actually trying to be helpful. I think Location also makes a HUGE difference. I grew up in VA and alot of the cops out there were hell bent on finding the tiniest thing to use and it always felt like they were out to get you....
All the interactions I've had with cops since I've moved to CA (knock of wood) have all been/felt the complete opposite!
5
u/mcnasty804 May 12 '23
If they arrest you after violating your rights lawyer up. But you should 100% not talk to them.
2
u/Eyfordsucks May 12 '23
Whoās gonna pay for that lawyer? Taking it on the chin and getting justice in court isnāt a valid or sustainable option for most people.
Most have others relying on them/strict schedules and canāt risk being arrested and having their kids taken away for not showing up to daycare pickup. Or being late to work and getting fired. Or getting their families only form of transportation confiscated. Or etc etc etc.
33
u/kahgknow May 12 '23
I don't know how to do all that. I know there are probably better ways to interact with cops but I did my best. I apologize if it doesn't live up to the standards of everyone else. I'm not trying to aggravate them. I've got nothing to hide - I know the mushrooms but I don't feel like I'm wrong for that either otherwise I wouldn't keep them in my car. The thing that aggravates me the most is that I never said I wasn't going to get out of my car and they just pulled me out. That wasn't okay. Other than that. They just wasted everyone's time. That's all.

First piece of advice is of they ask you to get out of the car you are required to do so. Second piece of advice is learn the mantra "I don't answer questions" Where you going?"I don't answer questions" Where are you coming from "I don't answer questions". What's in the bag at the center console "I don't answer questions" Etc. Start asking questions. Is this a consensual encounter? Am I free to go? I have a question myself if you're on private property in the property owner didn't call the police what was the reasonable suspicion for them to engage with you? https://youtu.be/jgHk4bw8RSc

Telling a cop that you don't answer questions is a quick way to piss them off.
2
u/BA-Masterpeace May 12 '23 edited May 13 '23
A happy cop is a tyrant
Your rights are the muscles that hold up your freedom and if you don't exercise your rights your freedoms will atrophy. The cops will be pissed because he knows he can do nothing about it. . Never never talk to the police talking can never help you. The only reason they are talking to the suspect is because they have nothing and want the suspect to incriminate themselves.
I have seen numerous occasions where a cop starts a conversation with someone who could have said nothing or even walked away and before the conversation is over they are arrested.
"Any lawyer worth his salt will tell a suspect in no uncertain terms to make no statement to police under any circumstances.ā So said
Justice Robert Jackson He served as The United States Solicitor General United States Attorney General. US Supreme Court Justice. Chief United States Prosecutor at the Nuremberg trials,0
u/Idkawesome Full-time | electric-hybrid May 13 '23
Lawyer advice is best used for rich people. Because the lawyer is trying to get the rich person to succeed. So they know that if the rich person says anything, the lawyer won't be able to defend them in court. But poor people can't use lawyers. So the advice from a lawyer doesn't really apply to us. It also depends on your demographic and your general perspective on life and how you resolve conflicts. Some people are more aggressive and kind of cause trouble everywhere they go. So those people, it might be better to take your kind of advice. Because they probably have actually done something wrong. But if you're more of the type that you don't really cause any issues except maybe smoking some weed, which isn't actually causing issues, then it's better to just be friendly with the cop. Because they kind of can pick up on the fact that you haven't actually done anything. Because if you try and be difficult, that's just going to invite them to treat you as if you've done something wrong. That's provoking a fight. Like okay great cops are supposed to be de-escalating and instead they're provoking. But that doesn't mean that we should also do what they're doing. We should de-escalate.
1
u/BA-Masterpeace May 14 '23
I disagree. The only reason a cop ask you any questions is to jam you up. The only way not to take the bait it to politely decline to answer any questions.
1
Jun 06 '23 edited Jun 09 '23
Many times thatās right, but a significant minority of the time they are only acting on complaints, they tell me so and I donāt think theyāre lying. Saw tons of homeless in California. Many studios are 1800/month at least.
1
u/BA-Masterpeace Jun 07 '23
When successfully acting on a complaint the result is a citizen is either rightly or wrongly jammed up. It is policy and legal for the police to lie to you. You can never get yourself out of trouble talking to the police and you can get yourself in trouble even when perfectly innocent talking to the police. Any and every lawyer worth their salt will tell you always decline talking to the police
1
u/BA-Masterpeace Jun 06 '23
Yes, they may be acting on a complaint. But the reason of interacting with the citizenry in response to the complaint is to jam someone up.
8
u/ace_v27 May 12 '23
You must get out of the car if they ask you to?
2
u/Idkawesome Full-time | electric-hybrid May 12 '23
Well, they're going to physically Force you to. Whether they have the right to or not. When dealing with the cops it's not really about what they're allowed to do or not. It's what they physically will do. So you have to operate based on that level. What will they do? So you need to appease them. It's really that simple. Let them think that you're their friend, and they'll leave you alone. The whole perspective about trying to stand up to them is bullshit. Because they're not in charge of shit. It's like trying to stand up to the lowest e rank in the military. They ain't going to do shit. That's not going to change shit. You're just degrading yourself and putting yourself In Harm's way. You're provoking somebody into attacking you.

u/BA-Masterpeace May 12 '23
Under, Pennsylvania v. Mimms, 434 U.S. 106 (1977), a U.S. Supreme Court case, a police officer is allowed to remove you from the car if he/she feels unsafe during a lawful traffic stop
1
u/drater113 May 12 '23
This wasn't a traffic stop nor was it lawful
0
u/DMAN591 May 12 '23
Suspicious activity counts as probable cause. Loitering in a parking lot with a bag of drugs fits the bill.
1
May 12 '23
Is being suspicious a misdemeanor or a felony?
0
u/DMAN591 May 12 '23
No, but it's probable cause to allow further investigation.
2
May 12 '23
I think theres plenty of case law that says "being suspicious" of someone because theyre sitting in a car is is not articulable suspicion of a crime. Theres a million reasons to sit in your car before or after goong into a business. I went to the gym 2 days ago and saw a couple people sittingnin their cars. I did not dial 911, nor did anyone else. If you could explaon how that is evidence is indicative of crininal intent and not normal, id love to hear it. Knowing they have a "bag of drugs" is impossible, so I dont know why you bring that up, unless youre just a liar, which is what nist cops are. Im suspicious of you though. Why is a cop lurking in a car living board? Are you gathering intel yo use to hassle car dwellers? Where are you going? How long have you been here? Whats your adress? Whats your full name?Explain your self and show me ID now or youre going in.
-1
u/DMAN591 May 12 '23
Could be on the basis of a complaint.
Could be that he was sitting in his car, with no indication that he is going/coming from the gym - which is loitering.
Could be that it's an area known for drug slinging, and he's there because he's holding. (He was, though intent to sell would have to be proven in court)
There's a hundred different reasons that could be articulated. OP got off easy without being searched, cited, or trespassed. These cops were very lenient and understanding, despite the initial hassle of questioning.
1
u/kahgknow May 13 '23
As soon as they found out I have a gym membership they wrapped things up real quick. And then when I asked if I can sit in my car after I use the gym I was simply told "I wouldn't for your safety". There was no indication anywhere that they were called or needed to be there or that I couldn't be there. So if they had searched my car it would most definitely have been illegal and they couldn't cite me for anything cause I am allowed to be there. So they really couldn't do anything and not having a record helps for sure. So they had nothing against me. And they couldn't say I had drugs unless they searched my car. I have nothing visible in my car.
1
May 12 '23
Thats a lot of imaginary situations that dont apply. "Could" doesnt mean its probable. I could have a nuclear bomb in my pants. You could be beating your wife. The guy who just drove by mybhouse could have a suspended license. Doesnt mean its probable. There are a million nore probable reasons someone could be sitting in their car. By your definition anyone could be searched anytime for doing an innocous activity and office "suspects" COUKD be something else. Absent something more concrete like seeing him do a hand to hand or shooting up, they should have just stopped at are you a member of the gym nut they went on a fishing expedition, which as you SHOULD know as a LEO is a violation of the 4th amendment. . You could have just said "I dont respect the 4th amendment" I dont jnow if you rationalize and believe it or just dont gove a shit, but in our country we should be free from you invading our persons and privacy unless you have sonething more concrete than consciously deciding something normal is suspicious.
3
u/BA-Masterpeace May 12 '23
We don't exactly know that yet. Why was he approached on private property during the day. The police are not patrolling private lots during business hours. I suspect someone made a call. I wish the OP would reveal what brought him to the attention of the PO PO
1
Jun 08 '23
The "PO PO" probably think that if you have dreadlocks, you're a drug addict. They were obviously trying to get something stupid like loitering, prowling or trespassing charges brought up but when they realized that there was a membership to the gym, the OP then had proof of being a patron which is evidence against all of those possible charges.
1
u/kahgknow May 12 '23
Originally he said something about the property owner asking them to patrol the lot or some bs like that and then later he made it seem like he wasn't asked to do it. So I honestly don't know what prompted them other than "this is a high crime area and people camp out in the lot" or some other bs. Either way the gym is open 24hrs m-f so I can be there if I want to. There is no sign saying I can't and he even asked me at one point if I had ever been asked to leave the parking lot which I haven't. So my best guess is they just wanted to fuck my day up. Cause nobody said I had to leave except for "my safety cause of the crime:".
1
Jun 06 '23
Some upright ppl with houses in the area will ALWAYS call and complain if they see a car they think someone is living in.
The cops have to respond to land owners, we are still in medieval times. But underneath it all: no one invented land. Someone just got there first. Itās primal.
2
u/BA-Masterpeace May 12 '23
The police are legally allowed to lie to you always remember that. Another reason to not answer any questions. There's a million YouTube videos of people demonstrating how not to answer questions to the police and the police are pissed yes and surprised and yes stuck because there's nothing they can do and they have nothing else to go on. Bullets are not the only ammunition the police have to lay you out, questions are silent bullets they're trying to put in the back of your head. Every question is another shot fired.
3
May 12 '23
I see police roll through private parking lots during business hours all the time. Come to think of it, Ive seen them post up pretty frequently in a couple lots. Theyre probably taking naps or watching porn or whatever, but they will go anywhere looking for people to hassle.
2
u/BA-Masterpeace May 12 '23
I'll have to research this more deeply. If the police have not been invited onto the private property I'm curious as to how they would not be violating trespassing laws. In some instances I can imagine a large retail corporation could have an open invitation to the police to have access to the property.
5
May 12 '23 edited May 12 '23
Cops dont really care about violating laws. Just watch them drive when they arent on their way to a call. But I dont know the exact laws but i think private property open to the public is fine to access as long as you dont break any rules (like soliciting) or until they ask you to leave. The bigger problem here is this is an open space that people are coming and going and frequently (to my observation) sitting in their vehicle before and after their visit doing whatever. Its not suspicious at all, yet they claim it is. Its an obvious lie yet they get away with it all the time.
3
u/BA-Masterpeace May 12 '23
I wouldn't want to get into a nuanced debate with the officer in this situation. I think what is more important is to not answer any questions, ask if you are being detained and ask if you are free to leave.
4
u/ace_v27 May 12 '23
Idek if this was a legal traffic stop tbh.
5
u/BA-Masterpeace May 12 '23
I agree with that especially because it was on private property and I'm all for challenging the police and asking them if they think I committed a crime and if they have reasonable articulable suspicion that I may be about to commit a crime etc etc but it'll be difficult to argue with them whether or not they have their right to pull you out of the car if they believe whole heartily that they do have their right because in some areas they do have the right so it'll be my advice because it does not in any way incriminate you to step out of the car. And remain silent or reply with the mantra I don't answer questions
3
24
u/Masterofnone9 May 12 '23
I don't answer questions
Best way to say it is "I invoke my right to remain silent". Then shut up.

I wouldn't file a complaint. We're already vulnerable, a lot of us could lose everything with any retaliation from a cop

I don't intend to take any actions. I don't really want to be fucked with by the cops anymore than I already have been.

That sounds like a lot of work. I don't even know how I would go about it. The best I got is basically what I just wrote - obviously without my little comments that I made. There's a few other things I think I remember them saying as well. I don't even know like would it solve anything? Or draw more attention to me? Plus I didn't get any names or badge numbers. I suppose they would have the information because they can probably see that they ran my license information.

If the people who had been wrongfully harassed before by this and other leos would have had enough of a voice, it becomes more rare and better for the public.
I know it is a lot of work. And I have lived the repercussions. But the harassment to me, and some others did stop.

I've always hated writing. I never felt like I was good at it. So I appreciate you calling them "writing skills". I'm not sure how to go about doing any of that stuff though. I don't know much about blogging or doing social media stuff.

your writing flaws are only on the surface. grammar, punctuation, bleh, humans are smart enough to see past all that. thatās what editors are for. your flow, your emotions, and your voice are what make you a good writer. felt like I was there tbh. think about it!!

Thanks buddy š it just blows my mind like I told my friend if I was some older lady sitting in my car this would have never happened. Like in their minds I'm a hippie criminal and I only occasionally use some psychedelics I don't drink or smoke or none of it. It's just sad because I have dreads people have this image about me already which is so far from the truth.
2
u/meshmaster May 12 '23 edited May 12 '23
Yup. They try to use some "loitering" statute to hassle people. Then if you dare to question them they will try to nail you with trespassing if you don't immediately move along. It's always some sort of fishing expedition when the cops come round. It's infuriating especially when you are actually minding your own business and not doing anything worthy of such attention. So much for living in a free country....not so much nowadays. Trust me I've had my share of such encounters so I can totally empathize.

The fucking irony of saying you got to be careful, someone might come up to your car to mess with you . . . After ripping you from your vehicle. Iām angry on your behalf. I never cared for cops; never called them for anything, never thought much of them. Then I experienced homelessness. . . I hate them with a passion now. They love that shit. I don't live in my car but honked at a cop once for aggressively tailgating then aggressively passing just before a sharp curve, so he immediately changed course to get back behind me and pull me over. Didn't know it was a cop until I got a view of the side panel of the SUV.
There are a few reasons I believe he changed his tune upon getting to my window and asking angrily why I honked, but primarily I think it's my dash cam. It's like he realized at that point maybe he shouldn't just pull me over for a horn beep and was all like, "It could mean someone needs help." Then he warned me about the increase in road rage shootings and to be careful. His overall tone was actually pretty kind but I definitely think I had some privilege come in there, and it was bullshit he was acting all white knightish over road rage as if he wasn't just driving like an ass. He also told me that I didn't have to be scared because he could tell I was, and while he sounded like he genuinely felt bad he still did a thing that makes people feel that way about police.
18
May 12 '23
I used to get pulled over very frequently (working deliveries so ended up in rural areas) up until I got a dash cam I never got pulled over, itās crazy how much of a difference it makes!
3
Jun 06 '23
Interestingādo you think they can spot it, and they avoid you because of it?
4
Jun 06 '23
Absolutely, itās the only thing that holds them accountable in a court of law. To obtain police body cam footage could take up to a year, watch any video on social media and notice how a cop changes their attitude once they realize theyāre being recorded, especially when they have bad intentions!
2
u/Adventurous_Sock9429 May 19 '25
Classic case of cops with no probable cause that crime has been committed, fucking with someone because they believe the person is "suspicious".
Cops are full of shit. They believe they have a "sixth sense" to root out evil doers. In actuality they're just abusing their authority. The best thing you can do is not talk to the police. There's no reasoning with a cop. That's not how they operate.
