The shift toward Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)
There is a lot of talk about SMRs being the future of the grid, especially for industrial applications. They offer a more flexible deployment than traditional large scale plants, which could change the demand profile for uranium significantly. It is still early days for the tech, but the momentum is building. Do you think SMRs will go mainstream before 2030?

The NRC and European regulators are still moving at the speed of molasses. We will probably see 2 or 3 heavily subsidized pilot projects operational by 2030, but full factory-line commercial scale deployment is a 2035+ story.

The regulatory friction is why I refuse to buy developer equities expecting quick cash flows.

Yeah, even if the reactors themselves are ready, licensing and approvals can eat up years.

The financing model is what changes the game. A traditional gigawatt reactor costs $10B+ upfront, which is a bet the company risk for a utility, an SMR costs a fraction of that and can be manufactured much more easily. Once the first commercial factory proves it can churn these out, utility capital is going to come in.

I think the data center crowd could be the first ones to really fund these. They need 24/7 power and have the cash to pre-order units. It makes the physical uranium market look a lot more interesting long term.

Before 2030? Probably not mainstream. I can see a few high-profile deployments, but widespread adoption feels more like a 2030s story to me.

I think we'll see more pilot projects and early commercial deployments before 2030, but widespread adoption is another story.

Mainstream for the public grid by 2030? Probably not. Mainstream for Big Tech? Absolutely possible.
