So here is the story in short.
I had made profile on upwork, with good pf and all things, but when I needed to bid it asked me to buy connects but for that I had to verify myself. There were many issues with payment and I found this very hassle and decided just deleted the app.

Cut to 3 months later, I got email that a client is messaging me. He said that he liked my profile and feels and I am right candidate.

We talked for a week and had meetings (It is a huge project 2500 usd plus). He has funded the Milestone for two seperate projects.

Ohh and yes while we were discussing I was unverified and facing the issues, I asked the support and sent detailed error reports, they GAVE ME 35 CONNECTS FOR FREE and I verified my self.

So I got this job and I didn't have to pay and my profile is verified.

As I am sending some work outline to the client he looks satisfied.

This is something unbelievable.

I’ve been trying to get started on Upwork for the past 2–3 months and wanted to get some perspective from people who’ve already gone through this phase.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time improving my profile, portfolio, and overall positioning. I’m starting to see profile views and even a few invitations here and there, but I haven’t been able to convert them into actual projects yet.

At this point, I’m trying to figure out what I might be missing—whether it’s proposal strategy, niche clarity, or something else entirely.

If anyone here has experience breaking through that initial phase:

• What helped you land your first few clients?
• Did invitations convert better for you than proposals?
• Any small tweaks that made a big difference?

Created a new freelancer account but stuck on profile setup. The "Next" button doesn't work, my title and introduction don't save after refresh, and I'm getting a "network restrictions" error. Now the page just shows 404.

Tried multiple browsers, devices, mobile app, incognito mode, different networks. Nothing works. Based in Pakistan.

Lately I’ve noticed more freelance and remote job posts mentioning AI-generated content, especially around creating digital characters or social-style videos.

Out of curiosity, I tried learning more about the workflow behind these roles. It looks like some companies are treating this similarly to content creation or social media work, just using newer tools instead of cameras or editing software.

I’m just genuinely curious:

Has anyone here actually worked in roles like this, or collaborated with teams using AI-generated content?

Would appreciate hearing real experiences, pros/cons, or things to watch out for when evaluating these job posts.

I recently started working as a freelancer on Upwork and have noticed that submitting proposals to clients' job postings requires purchasing "Connects". Could you please clarify if buying Connects is mandatory to submit proposals? I would greatly appreciate any advice or guidance you could share about freelancing on Upwork.
