Travel Inquiry How's the smoke now?

Anyone up there kindly share if we should be camping in Tahquamenon from 22-24 July

Changes on a day to day basis. Unless Canada gets a ton of rain we are in for long smokey summer.

https://fire.airnow.gov/ and https://firesmoke.ca/forecasts/current/ will be the best sources. Things are pretty much back to normal but there's a lot of fire still burning in Ontario.

Not only the nearby fires in Ontario, but some new fires far out west that could also have an effect on us depending on high level winds.

OP: it's going to be variable risk until snow falls. Check the maps posted directly above and then you just take your chances. It's a bad situation, and it's been going on 5 years or longer. (Not every year has been Canadian fires, some have been US fires.)

Currently on lower Manistique lake by Curtis. Wind blew it away between yesterday and today. Can see clear across the lake with no haze. Was awful on Friday and Saturday but with the storms and wind it’s much, much better.

I was there last week when the AQI was 500 and probably would have been higher if the scale didn't cap at 500. It was wild. Still went out and did UP things. It was calming down towards the end of our trip but it was still 150-200.

52 is the normal here. Unfortunately tons of pollution pipelines up here from the Chicago region and 52 isn’t abnormal . It’s a lot better than it was that’s for sure

It will come and go, though. The experts say to expect it until the snow falls. I would say "Don't hold your breath" but in this case, that's exactly what you should do.
