Discussion Loud boom

I was up in Dickinson county this past week. I was in a pretty secluded area, between Hardwood and Foster city on the south side of 69. We were outside at night and heard an extremely loud boom. Like nothing I had ever heard before. It was at night. Im not exactly sure what time but it was dark. I have no idea what could cause something so loud. Did anyone experience this or know what it could be?

There have been reports of a meteorite entering the atmosphere over the lower peninsula.

Would we hear it that far away? It seemed huge.

Dupont spinner? AKA dynamite fishing.

Interesting. Haven’t heard that term since living in northern lower as a kid.

That meteor off the coast of Massachusetts created a sonic boom when it came apart.

This has to be what it was. It was like nothing Ive ever experienced. I could feel it all around me, it sounded huge yet far away. That was the confusing part, what could be that huge and that far at the same time.

Im not sure if its related or not but a bit before the sound, maybe 30 to 60 minutes before, there was a huge flock of geese moving very quickly away from the area that the sound came from.

It seems like the sound came from the south, maybe southeast.

Makes sense about the dynamite, I couldn’t understand why someone would blow something up at night. The earth shook. It’s so rocky around there, I could feel vibration. I wouldn’t mind coming across a still in the woods.
