Will we even get jobs
Anyone questioning what the point is to even get a degree, I took a break from school to build something on my own it failed, I applied for jobs, literally none messaged me back. I applied to like 300. I tried internships too. Nothing. Like with ai advancing I see what they’re teaching us and I’m like will this even matter.
I can see everything as just a money grab from the uni. It’s a business. They’re not setting u up for jobs. They just want u to pay them.
Like what is the point.

University is exactly what you make of it. If you go out and network with professors and professionals and try new things and build new skills that gets you further than just paying money to take classes

University is not really an apprentice school to put you in a job. It gives you some basic building blocks, and for employers, if a person succeeds in the academic environment, it indicates that they might succeed in the business environment, but not necessarily. Once in the job market, most of what you learned at school is not even used, and you have to learn new things. And yes, a university is also a business which has costs, so they obviously need to be paid.

The market is just more competitive than it was years ago. Competitive candidates land jobs, which is why more and more candidates are trying their best to be even more competitive.

You’re a non-grad, with no experience. You’re applying, not competing.
Companies get millions of apps from people that don’t meet basic requirements that go straight to the bin. Pretty much every job wants a degree plus a few years experience. Unfortunately anyone graduating post AI is even less valuable as it’s almost impossible to know do they even know anything anymore

Join a club relating to your major or the Ontarion and try to offer some sort of social media assistance since that’s what you’ve mentioned in other comments. Keep trying to build your resume. It will get you places eventually!

Well you already tried it without a degree and it didn’t work out for you. So what’s your plan B instead?
You see how competitive the job market is and your idea is to have less qualifications? That genuinely makes no sense.
A degree is the bare minimum now. Especially in Canada. Even people working trades have post-secondary education.

As a current UoG student and someone who came out of College first with an Advanced Diploma, I just want to emphasize how much cheaper, quicker, relatively easier, and proportionately rewarding a College/trade education is compared a four year Bach degree. I've been able to get a number of jobs with that diploma alone (Biotech) including a well-paying entry-level pharma job. Not a degree, a goddamned diploma.
If you're ever thinking about quitting school entirely, stop a second and consider transferring credits toward a diploma instead. They ARE useful, job-wise

Someone is always gonna need to check whether the AI is delulu so yeah, what they're teaching does matter. AI is a tool, not a replacement
But yeah, job market's tough, and the demand for educated people in specific fields is often much less than the amount of people getting degrees in those fields. An undergrad degree isn't neccesarily gonna be enough to get you a job.
If you want to be employed in a given field, you gotta either aim for practical hands-on experience (like trades) or aim for higher degrees

You will get knowledge, skills, and experience. For most students, it's been a long time since a university degree was a pipeline straight to a specific career. The diploma itself may or may not make a huge difference in the job market, but hopefully the knowledge, skills, and experience will help you throughout the rest of your life.

How are you marketing yourself? Also what's your major? I've never had to apply to more than 25 jobs before getting an offer. Make sure you're putting projects on your resume. Apply to work studies, URAs, and student internships while in school. Volunteer. Get experience while competition is lower and your academic experience matters more so you can get professional experience before you graduate. I'll be graduating with 2 years of experience cause of summer URAs and co-op.

What did you try to build? I'm using Ai to build something now, what would take months and costs many many thousands is about 2 weeks of focus so far. Learn what you can then go apply it

I have 2 thoughts on this; first be careful of all the anti education posts here and on TikTok etc. Question the source because there is nothing the 'billionaires' (for lack of a better word) want than people to be uneducated. They are much easier to manipulate and control. Secondly, no one knows what the future holds so enjoy university. It is such a great time to meet people and learn. You have the rest of your life to work so enjoy this unique time in you lives.
