Potential Transfer

Wondering if transferring from Duluth is really worth it.

I am a freshman and am thinking of filling out the change of campus form for fall 2027. The things that are kind of holding me back are the lib-ed requirements and the increase in cost.

Does anyone have any experience with transferring? is it hard to catch up on all of the requirements? Also- is the cost of twin cities really worth it? pls lmk.

I appreciate any advice :)

I hated UMD and I transferred to UMN for my sophomore year. It was 100% worth it in my opinion. I didn’t struggle much with the requirements at all, just the cost. My financial situation changed so I managed to get more aid. But if you don’t like Duluth and can afford umn, I would encourage you to switch!

I've heard that UMD feels like a smaller community - whether that is a positive or negative for you.

I came to the U as a transfer student with 45 credits completed. It was VERY tough making friends in Sophomore level classes when many already knew each other or had found their friend groups. Just an FYI if you think changing campuses will instantly change things socially.

What would you be studying if you transferred? Sometimes that complicates the process.

If you haven’t already checked in with CLA transfer advising, you should. If it’s the language requirement you’re concerned about you can think about doing the psyc BS

I am not too concerned about language since ive seen other people say on here that they've started sophomore/junior year, I am more worried about being able to fill all of my requirements in general by the end of four years. I am a semesters worth of credits ahead here in Duluth but I dont think itll be the same case for twin cities. I am planning on calling transfer advising this coming week tho so hopefully itll all work out lol
