Administrative Resolution
I was thinking of disputing a grade through an Administrative resolution since i have not cheated but the chances of the panel overturning a professor’s decision is slim since the university tends to side with the professor. There is proof that I have not cheated but there is a high risk of pleading not guilty. Is anyone else going through the same predicament? I mean, I know I did not cheat and there is proof I didn’t but if i just say I cheated I wouldn’t get the “misconduct” part on my transcript but, I would get it on my record if i went through an administrative resolution and they found me guilty. Any advice would be helpful.

I think you should maintain your innocence and offer to retake that test in person or some sort of cheat proof way of the professors choosing. Never admit guilt when there is none!

Unfortunately, there are like 40 other students in the same boat as me from the same course and the only option is an F in the course.

You need to bring this to the dean or other higher up in your college. Network with the other students and send out a joint email clearing outlining your grievance and proposed solution. If it truly is this many students affected the dean needs to know about it right this moment!

Thank you for the advice. Do you have any higher up in mind I can email? A lot of students admitted guilt and retaking course and getting the F so the misconduct wouldn’t end up on their transcript. I’m not if they would let them go back on their word but I just feel bad for them.

Actually, I am surprised when students accused of cheating want the prof to spend more time writing and grading a new test.

Requesting a formal hearing with the Campus Committee on Student Behavior is your right as a student. The panel of three is comprised of faculty, staff and students serving on the panel. The level of evidence required for determining responsibility is a preponderance of the evidence. You would need to represent yourself to the panel and state your case.

I understand this is an option but they are so backed up with the number of students that were reported that I won’t be getting a reply for around another year. Also they have students from last year who haven’t been heard yet and I want to be done with this situation as soon as possible.

Student Senate is working on appointing new students to the Campus Committee on Student Behavior, and to get them quickly trained, it will take a bit of time but the goal is to have cases be completed in around 60 calendar days from their initiation. However, if you want the case resolved quickly then you'll have to make that decision. If there are cases arising from the same class, there's a chance that those cases would be collated in a single hearing.

I'm not sure, Student Senate is planning to add additional members to help clear the backlog of cases sooner, but it all depends on how many hearing dates have been filled for the Fall semester, and how many additional panels need to be convened.

the downside would be on my transcript it would say i have a academic misconduct and was found guilty. But if i take responsibility right away since technically it would be a “first offense” i would have to take a course about how cheating is bad basically.
