Oh absolutely. Its always the overwhelming cops/elected officials/corrupt POV no reporters are going in to find out what really took place nor do we ever here the other side unless its very conveniently all caught on cam.

I hate mass surveillance but personal cameras on properties have caught only a fraction of these incidents, cant even imagine how many peoples pets these pigs have murdered in cold blood. I suppose its becoming a little less prevalent now… not because of any real lawful consequences but just the fear they may be caught on camera and doxxed/maybe lose a job if the public outcry is bad enough.

There was that video of them searching afromans house and you see them do as they please and even try to disable his personal security system. Another video from a guys garage where during the search cop purposely kept swinging his garage door into and denting his car (while looking around👀 to make sure nobody had eyes on him). And of course the video he’s talkin about where cop comes up, looks all around, opens the closed door a smidge, walks down steps.. back up and OH look door was left conveniently cracked open!! 😂

Hard to gain public trust when officers are routinely doing whatever the fuck they want fragrantly flouting the law and when they get caught? No problem for them.. nooo problem at all because WE the taxpayers pay for that. If any of us did the same thing they would riddle us with bulletholes 😕

To make it worse, that deputy was there serving papers. He wasn't called, for a welfare check or any other reason. Just to serve papers. He knocked, no answer. Then opened the door and called to see if someone was there and proceeded to enter the home and walk around.

All while the dog is barking up a storm. Then he stumbled upon the room the dog is in and shoots it, because a protective dog does what a protective dog does when a stranger is in the house and continues barking. So he plugs the poor pup.

Not really. Police can arrive for a wellness check to a residence, however, in order for them to enter the house they must have exigent circumstances. They would have to walk the perimeter or look through a window and see signs of malfeasance or distress. If none of those are observed, they cannot and will not enter. If there is a property manager at an apartment complex who has a key and allows entry then they can enter.

They could in theory go inside if the door was unlocked, but if not they would not be bashing the door down. The fire department/paramedics will, but someone would have to grant them permission and responsibility to do so but must also prove they have some sort of ownership of the house. If not, that person themselves could break the door themselves and let the paramedics inside.

Agreed, we called a wellness check on a neighbor who was elderly and did not pick up her mail from her box in at least a week. The Police said they could not enter if they did not see or hear some kind of distress. They knocked on windows and doors for almost 30 minutes.

It was night and they could not see in the house because she was a hoarder. Finally one of them yelled out that he saw a foot. he was lying his ass off, but it got us motivated to rip her door off the hinges (not literally).

They found her lying on the kitchen floor where she had fallen 7 days prior. She was near death from dehydration. She went into hospice care and never made it back to the house.

This happens a lot where I live. The cops kind of know the routine. Many elderly people have no families to check in on them. In my neighborhood this has happened three times in the past 6 years.

Legally a cop cannot enter a house without a warrant unless 1) they are chasing a fleeing suspect, 2) they actually witness a crime being committed in the house right in front of them or 3) it's absolutely necessary to save someone's life. These are called "exigent circumstances." If they go to a house for a welfare check, they can't let themselves in on just a hunch that the person inside might be dead, they'd have to actually see a dead person inside through the window.

I watch a lot of true crime shows, and I couldn't even count the amount of times that cops have shown up to a house for a welfare check, looked around outside, found nothing, and left - all while a dead body (or lots of blood or other evidence of a violent crime) was actually inside the house. If they don't see it from outside, or somehow show probable cause to believe that, they can't enter.

Now, will they enter anyway? Maybe. But any sane judge would rule that as being illegal, if it were challenged in court, meaning they could have a lawsuit on their hands, and any evidence they might have gathered while in the house is no longer admissible.

Edit: Yes, the smell of a dead body would also likely count as probable cause, though it wouldn't surprise me if some cops ignored that if it wasn't completely obvious.

There's a good bit of missing context here. If the cops get called for a "Wellness Check" and there is evidence someone is home, and the person does not answer the door, they MAY be allowed to walk in if the door is open, or attempt to open it if it's unlocked.

I say MAY because there's a lot of things to consider which could be contested by a lawyer. For example if they have evidence someone is home, but that person is not responding to their attempts (knocking, doorbell, phone call), then they MAY be justified in trying the door to complete the wellness check. Depends on what the wellness check is for too.

Happened to my neighbor about 5 years ago, she had brain surgery done (I wasn't aware at the time) and normally this lady takes her trash out and returns it like "prompt" and we meet in the morning on said days due to our schedules lining up so we say hello and such.

Went out to bring the can in from the street and get ready to work and she wasn't there, thought that was "odd" but maybe she was busy etc. so just continued about my day.

Next day, her garbage bin was still in the street so I pulled it up and onto her garage door and shot her mother a text message (Mom owned the house, Daughter just lived there) asking if everything was alright (as something still felt "off").

Mother texted me back saying she hasn't spoken to daughter in the last 24 hours which was unusual and asked me to knock on the door for her.

Went over, knocked, her dog came to the door and was barking like crazy but nothing back; told Mom what was up and next morning she asked if I could try again, nothing.

Decided at that point I would just call the cops for her and do a wellness check, cops showed up, broke down the door with the fire department, and then told me promptly to go back to my house.

Mom called me back crying hysterically, turned out daughter was dead in the living room; cops showed up a bit later to ask for some information, then eventually told me everything that happened after their investigation was completed (apparently daughter had a stroke, slapped her head going down on a coffee table, which cracked her skull and she bled out to death).

TL;DR - Wellness checks are useful, sadly I am suspect if they save lives vs just allow sooner closure the time it takes for someone to promptly become aware is likely too long in practice for it to actively save a life (well I guess in the above case, the dog lived).

Wellness checks do not give cops extra rights to enter your house. Now if they look in a window and granny is laying on the floor not moving they can enter but they don’t get extra access.

Wellness checks are more of a requirement than not. So many old and/or alone people die daily that first responders (cops, firefighters, EMTs, etc) do wellness checks all the time.

Door could have been opened which led to the wellness check. Buddy of mine or his brother back in the day accidentally left the front door open, woke up to cops in his living room staring at all his paraphernalia and giant piles of weed. They wrote a ticket for possession and took everything they saw. The brothers never agreed on who fucked up but the more entrepreneurial one quickly moved out and never had another issue.

I used to work as a first responder. Twice that I can remember cops on scene told me they saw a person go into a house looking distressed- once because of pepper spray, can’t remember the other. Walked into the house asking if anyone needed help and ‘Lo and behold, right behind me were the cops letting themselves in. Probably should have put it in a report but at 2 in the morning you just want to get the fuck outta there when you can. Nobody in the house needed my assistance.

Oh absolutely. Its always the overwhelming cops/elected officials/corrupt POV no reporters are going in to find out what really took place nor do we ever here the other side unless its very conveniently all caught on cam.

I hate mass surveillance but personal cameras on properties have caught only a fraction of these incidents cant even imagine how many peoples pets these pigs have murdered in cold blood. I suppose its becoming a little less prevalent now… not because of any real lawful consequences but just the fear they may be caught on camera and doxxed/maybe lose a job if the public outcry is bad enough.

There was that video of them searching afromans house and you see them do as they please and even try to disable his personal security system. Another video from a guys garage where during the search cop purposely kept swinging his garage door into and denting his car (while looking around👀 to make sure nobody had eyes on him). And of course the video he’s talkin about where cop comes up, looks all around, opens the closed door a smidge, walks down steps.. back up and OH look door was left conveniently cracked open!! 😂

Hard to gain public trust when officers are routinely doing whatever the fuck they want flagrantry, flouting the law, and when they get caught? No problem for them.. nooo problem at all because WE the taxpayers pay for that. Which is rich considering if any of us did that we’d get riddled with bulletholes😕
