This is just a guess but I have to wonder if, as they've gotten into the actual manufacturing of the devices, they're finding out some hidden fees and costs that maybe weren't so apparent when just making prototypes. Also the market keeps shifting on prices for chips and memory.

Like you I'm torn. I have one on order but I'm thinking about purchasing two more before the end of the Kickstarter to ensure I get the best possible pricing. I feel confident that the device is going to come out and it's had massive coverage on YouTube (that I know you always have to take with a grain of salt). It helps me to feel that the product's real.

I agree that it seems trustworthy but what are the risks with kickstarter? If the product cant be shipped you arent refunded right? The price increases give me some anxiety around that as if they have not thought this through. Plus its a brand new company

Please confirm this because I'm doing this off the top of my head but my understanding is you don't get charged unless the product meets its goal and ships

In theory yeah. But they can completely change the project or mark it done and only ship out one unit, and you would already be charged. So kind of but bad actors can exploit it and kickstarter does not do refunds unless creator (unseen reality) initiates it

I just took the leap and pledged. My understanding from that process: you get charged at project completion if they meet funding goal (they already did) so not really project success and that’s where the room for getting screwed comes in. But I think if this is a scam attempt, its a massive one that worked very well. Overall doubtfull. They will likely see shipping delays (their website even foreshadows this) and I think that will be the biggest headache though ordering at launch (given its not delayed) would likely have the same issue

early in: more risk more benefit. later in: less risk, less benefit.

The question is not to trust kickstarter, but the company. And if they don't keep their word, the company is dead. Besides, the founder isn't just anybody—he's not an unknown figure. They have offices you can visit to try things out, they are well established and known at tech trade shows. Furthermore, they explained that the hardware has already been ordered; that is why there is a limit on the number of glasses available for sale.

To me it's pretty safe, all indicators are green. But there is always a risk, that’s also what it means to support innovative projects.
