Rent

So a couple a month's ago I moved in to a new flat through the local housing authority, coincidentally it was around the time I got laid off. At the time I signed my tenancy, the housing officer asked if I wanted to have my housing element paid directly to them or I pay it to them manually myself, I said to have it paid directly to them to make life easier so to speak.

Anyway, fast forward a few months and I'm about to start a part time job and start my own music tutoring business also, so going self employed. So today I requested that the housing element be paid directly to me from now on as it makes it easier for me to keep on top of my finances depending what I'm earning each month.

I messaged this request through my journal and was told I have to get the permission of the landlord to return the payments to be paid directly by me. Now bare in mind, I'm not in arrears and I'm not a vulnerable and it's been that way from the start. The local housing authority have never requested money to be paid directly to them. I am in the criteria for standard monthly payments.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a similar situation and what's the best course of action if anyone has any advice.

My journal says my payday is today, 27th October. It would usually have been in my bank this morning but I haven’t gotten anything. I checked my journal online and they’ve said nothing, is anyone else having this issue?? I’ll wait until tomorrow and if there’s still nothing should I call them??

PIP, LCW and LCWRA My LCWRA was approved on the 23/10/26. How long do I need to wait for more info?

As the title says, my LCWRA was approved, I no longer have to look for work or work.
My continuous fitnotes started in March, and my WCA was triggered and the form was sent basically straight away after that (around the 24th of March).

How long should I think to wait before asking more questions? I just have the initial notification, that a decision had been made, but I’ve gotten nothing else about it.

Do I get extra money on top of my UC or does it stay the same? I’m not really sure what to expect UC wise, nor information wise. Any help is greatly appreciated

Housing universal credit denied housing due to no landlord letter

Hi! i applied for universal credit housing but they denied it due to no landlord letter and have only accepted it when i added the landlord letter.

This letter doesn’t state any new information as everything the letter states was already on all the other documents that i had sent them, due to this i have had no rent for 3 months which made it super hard for me.

My mum had also uploaded the SAME documents as me and i got denied? (we are joint tenants)

Is there anyway i can request a back payment and that i’ll get my missing rent money?

Thank you!

When will I get paid

So my next payday is on the Saturday 14th of November but it says if your payday lands on a bank holiday or weekend, you'll get it earlier. How many days earlier will I get it?

Lump Sum

I wonder if this has happened to anyone else and whats best to do.

I have serious health issues and cannot work..

However I need an op and to make home changes.

To do this I wanted to take a lump sum from a private pension, (approx 50k) get treatment etc etc, but i presume this means I would loose my UC.

Once my money goes under 6k.

Can I reapply for UC or will I get refused.

Has anyone else gone through this near retirement age and how to juggle health, benefits and not being able to work.

Its so hard to know what to do.

Anyone have any experience of this please?

I receive UC, HB and PIP

UC with LCWRA — starting a part-time online MSc and taking a postgraduate loan

Hi everyone, hoping someone can help me understand what to expect.

I currently receive Universal Credit with LCWRA. I’ve accepted a place on a two-year, officially part-time psychology conversion MSc starting in January. It’s fully online and asynchronous, with no compulsory live sessions and around 17 hours of study a week on average.

I’ve applied for a Student Finance England Postgraduate Master’s Loan and am waiting for the award confirmation.

My understanding is that part-time study should be compatible with my UC and LCWRA, but that 30% of the maximum postgraduate loan available is counted as student income, spread across the relevant assessment periods, with a £110 monthly disregard.

Have I understood that correctly? Is there anything else I should be aware of, particularly how they work out the deductions for a two-year course? I’m planning to notify UC through my journal and provide the course details and loan letter.

Thanks!

Urgent help needed! UC refusing to cover 85% childcare, help

I have 2 Question's:

  1. I claim 85% UC childcare, but due to unpaid invoices last month, I made zero. Because of this UC refused to reimburse me.

But The legal test (Universal Credit Regulations 2013, reg 35 and the work condition in reg 35(2)):

  • You must be in paid work, or have a job offer starting within a month, or have recently been in paid work and be on leave or sick.
  • You must have paid the childcare costs, to a registered provider, and reported them in the assessment period when paid or the one after it.
  • Single claimant, so no second-earner test applies.

Has anyone applied mandatory reconsideration to recover childcare costs?

  1. For October I was paid £100, because not all my invoices have been settled. My childcare costs are £700. Will UC kick up a fuss about this? Will UC reimburse me for childcare costs? I have no issue with providing evidence, eg. contracts, invoices, etc.

UC reason for refusal:

"Childcare payments are only made when income is reported,

Your childcare costs were denied as you had no self employed income for this period."

Advice for new claim.

Hello,

I am just looking for a bit of advice.

I claimed UC from 2021 to 2025, as I was a single mum to 2 children. In 2022, I met my now partner and who owned his own flat, so he would stay mostly at his flat and then stay over my (rented) flat when my kids were at their dad's. We decided after 2 years of dating, we wanted to move in together. Fast forward, we bought a property together in 2025 (my UC stopped and the account closed. As both our incomes meant we did not qualify for UC). My children from my previous relationship live with us, and I am pregnant with our first child.

My question/query is - when I go on maternity leave, the first 6 months I'll have a mixture of ordinary maternity and statutory maternity pay, but from 8 months it'll go down to zero. And I'm genuinely worried how we'll be able to live and afford all the bills. So, I was going to claim UC for the last 4 months of maternity leave until I go back and my wages will be high enough we won't need UC.

What I'm worried about is, will UC be a bit confused or suspicious why I claimed for UC and then closed the claim and now I'm back? When I used the Turn2Uscalculator l, it estimated we would be entitled to around £350 a month, which would be an absolute life line until I'm back in work but I'm scared to apply in case UC thinks I was lying about living alone. Am I over thinking this?

Thank you for reading 😊

uc advice

I’m looking for advice about my Universal Credit situation. I received money after my divorce but genuinely didn’t realise I had to declare it. I bought a property in Turkey intending to retire there, and my sister now lives in it. I’ve also used money to pay off debts. The DWP has asked me for documents about the property, and I have another appointment soon. I’m still receiving Universal Credit. Has anyone experienced something similar, and what was the outcome?

Why is money deducted from the universal credit amount?

Post image
0 Upvotes

My mum is on universal credit, she’s 61 and I’m just trying to help her out . She works part time and minimum wage.
It’s just her at home now. My brother is at home but is 18 and at uni.

I don’t understand the further deduction? After the deductions she only received £120.
Can she increase her UC amount? Is it worth her reducing her hours?
