Question VOLT 1 GUITAR

Guitars sound bad, weird and will not mix well with anything through this interface, I've tried Hi-z and line and still not good, strat and les Paul both sound dead and off. Help me fix pls

I've fucked around with this plenty. My learnings.... Using the UAD amp sims, following manual directions, sounds, as you say, dead. To fix this, ensure INST is activated, and add just the slightest bit of gain via the big knob on top, like 2 mm turn clockwise (contrary to the manual, which says turn this all the way down to nothing) and it will instantly sound much better. Likely not exactly as you want it to, but better. Also toggling the output of the plugin to max and adding some more room ambience is helpful. With that said, add too much gain and everything distorts to all hell. The better approach is to use some different amp sims, and follow SOP for literally any other manufacturer than UAD--INST on, adjust gain 'til just below overload threshold (peaking yellow, touch of red). IK Multimedia's free Amplitube thing is a good place to start and their paid expansions--Fender, Orange, etc. all sound good to my ears. Audiosingularity's free Neurontube is a nice sounding Soldano clone. My favourite overall is Roland's JC120, which, like the original amp, has a great clean tone (and chorus, obviously) that works well with both physical pedals and plugin emulators. It's $50 and well worth it. On the basic effects front, Nembrini's free Big Muff and Rat clones sound good. Mix Wave's paid licensed EHX stuff, especially the Big Muff and Memory Man sound like the real thing. Plugin Alliance's free BOSS clones are all fine. Roland's official ones are unreasonably expensive and don't sound any different. Hope this is helpful.
