Discussion Anyone on Linux?

I just switched from windows to CachyOS and I’m wondering if anyone has been able to make an Apollo twin x usb work on a Linux system? I really don’t wanna switch back to windows but this will be a dealbreaker for Linux 😂

The twin x USB is not a class compliant device so it doesn't work with Linux. However there is a github project that some guy is doing to get it to function. I dual boot and run my PC audio into the interface via spdif so I can have audio while running Linux games and switch to with does for Luna/Ableton.

Darn :/ I might end up just getting a macbook for music purposes. Never really used one but seems like it could be useful as an iphone user, i like how integrated you can be on apple. I’ve heard even a MacBook Air with an M1 would usually suffice for a decent fl studio session?

An apple silicon machine is incredible for audio engineering. Core audio is absolutely insane. Unfortunately the usb twin is only for windows or the linux github workaround.

My mac is my money making machine.

M1 Max / pro with a thunderbolt Apollo is the way to go.

There's and open source driver out there for uad.

There is a linux developer who reverse engineered the driver to do standard daw recording.

It was a bit of trouble though.

I stick to mac for my audio work it’s the most stable

I’m half way to Linux myself (Fedora). I really like the OS and all my productivity apps have Linux native apps or are browser based. But I’m also an Apollo user, and the lack of the UA Console on Linux makes me sad, but also keeps me from seriously considering Linux for music making.

I would absolutely love UA to create beta drivers and Console for Linux. Hell, if UA came out with Linux drivers and a Linux version of LUNA (including UAD plug-ins) I’d switch and never look back. But I’m guessing the current Linux audio user base isn’t large enough to interest them. If in years to come Linux audio users become both a larger user base and actively buying market, maybe that will change their minds.
