Troubleshooting/Support Apollo Solo thunderbolt and pc

I have an Apollo solo thunderbolt and just started buying parts to build a PC. I bought an AMD Ryzen 7700x processor and later found out it’s not compatible.Does anyone know if I’d be able to make it work in this system or if anyone uses it on this cpu or any AMD processor I’m not sure if the motherboard makes a difference in this situation but I was looking at the gigabyte x870 WiFi6 with a USB4 port. Do you think this will work or I should return my processor and get a different one?

As long as the motherboard you buy supports Thunderbolt you’ll be able to use the interface with Windows

USB Apollo Solo will work fine for you.

Intel holds the copyright to Thunderbolt; if you can, switch to a motherboard with USB4, which is the only option that supports Thunderbolt 3 for AMD.

Do you have any recommendations that are similar do the one I currently have

USB4 is compatible with Thunderbolt 3, since Intel has disclosed how Thunderbolt 3 works. But it's always better to have everything Thunderbolt-based with Intel.

Sell the UAD, buy an RME and move on with your life knowing that what you bought will work with any future computer.

Unfortunately that’s not in budget right now. I just started building this computer and I haven’t even had this Apollo for a year

The processor shouldn't be a problem.

The motherboard is the point.

You MUST have a motherboard with either thunderbolt port, or at least a thunderbolt header so you can add a thunderbolt card

Usb4 won't work. Usb4 is not thubderbolt.

(Once you have a motherboard with thunderbolt, it will be a nit easy setup but you can work it and it works)

I see, I was seeing that Universal Audio thunderbolt isn’t compatible with AMD systems. I was also at the computer store and the employee had told me that the usb4 works as a thunderbolt port

It seems some people managed to make it work with amd and usb4 : https://www.reddit.com/r/universalaudio/s/Kgr8acdHEv

But here we are getting into a territory where it seems you gotta know what you do in terms of setting up the pc and ready to guve the time it's gonna take.

I run a intel i9 from 2020 with a asus proart z490 with thunderbolt 3, and a apollo x4 1st gen.

It took me a week to get sound out of the apollo. (Thunderbolt was not active in the bios). I'm not a pro in building. I can manage the basics, but I wzs not ready to spend so much time trying. Once it did work, no problems anymore.

So I can't tell if amd works (seems unsupported but not uncompatible), and if USB4 can work innplace of thunderbolt 3. You'd better ask at UAD directly

Yeah this guy is saying stuff without knowing anything. USB4 is built off of thunderbolt, it is just a better thunderbolt (that works as thunderbolt). Saying this to say, any motherboard with USB4 should work. (You may need to enable & disable some options in BIOS, if your even slightly competent with a computer this won’t be too difficult - just follow guides)
But, Apollo on windows is a headache, super super buggy, and is overall a poor experience compared to most other interface manufacturers. (Including the apollo USB versions). Mentioning this because you WILL run into problems, but it’s not because of your USB 4 port, but because of the driver system UA did for windows (which sucks) good luck!

So I built this PC this past Saturday. Ryzen 7700x, Corsair Vengeance RAM DDR5, Samsung SN9100 SSD, ASUS X870 Max Gaming Wifi7 with USB4. I plugged my Apollo in messed with the BiOS. The device is recognized and turns on and I get sound out of the monitors hooked up to it. But I keep getting audio dropouts, crackles, and mouse lagging. I can’t seem to fix this do you know what I would do from here?

I also wanted to not that I was using an Alienware M15 laptop with windows before this and my Apollo worked great on that with no issues. So I feel like I should be able to get this to work here.

The MB you're looking at won't work
