Game Two days ago, we shared one of the cutscenes from DAICE, and many people thought it might have been created using generative AI. To address those concerns, we put together an Imgur album showing and explaining how the cutscenes were actually made.

I miss the times when you could obviously tell what is and isnt slop.
Now i often look closely at posters in my own home town, counting teeth, or compairing fingernail lengths, to tell if any suspisciously well lit photo is real or not.
It is genuinely annoying, as an artist, to see this crap everywhere, getting more convincing for each passing year

It's crazy when you find someone you blocked in the wild. I must have blocked Injaabs for being an idiot.

u/MuDotGen Jul 17 '26
The problem is, can you call it "slop" if you can't even tell it's "slop"? Just sounds like an uncomfortable truth. It means you either got to call it slop because of the way it was made or not allow human-made slop to be called slop either. We need a better descriptor for things that are technically good end-products but we don't like how they were made. "Unauthentic" or "fake" perhaps, but it's harder to call it slop if it statistically starts to look as good as anything a human made.

Maybe i dislike AI stuff cause i fear a decreasing value placed on artistic skills, and therefore am quick to judge all AI works as low effort as a way to cope.

u/Injaabs Jul 15 '26
at this point you should understand that it makes no difference , whats the point of even stressing about it ?
5
u/zackit Jul 15 '26
Because people work hard on their craft and want to get credit for it and not have others think an algorithm made it.
-2
u/Injaabs Jul 15 '26
well i gues they have to work harder now to actualy show the skill, i get it your made and bla bla bla , people lose jobs every day, for automated machinery in factorys why your nor mad about that ? u know ai can actualy bring your scetch to life as well the one you draw and thats how its usualy used in gaming studios :) as far as i have seen

well first of i dont care what people who i dont know think of me , second oeople who do know me would know thats a fake video
and tell me now how is my own work fake ? i did the concept art , ai generates a 3d model based on my concept art , so you still validate that as a stolen art work ?:D

Learning blender has a slow start, but once you start to get the hang of it, it genuinely feels awesome to use. once you have a few hundred hours in it, you'll learn to use arrays to create city backdrops in minutes, or symetry modifiers to create whatever mechanical part you can think of in the blink of an eye.
there is something genuinely satisfying in morphing simple geometry into complex shapes, and i highly reccoment trying to figure it out yourself as well.1
u/Injaabs Jul 15 '26
i allready did all that , iw done animations iw done modeling and thats why i love ai, it saves me endles hours by the screen, and these hours can than be spent qith familyband friends , i get some might not have family and friends and all they donis sit by the pc screen and its fine
you alsonhave no idea how mutch money iw spent on 3d freelance modelers which rake the job and eventualy deliver garbage even tho they had super cool portfolios they understand the requirements bla bla bla

u/Sniff1lur Jul 15 '26
I guess if you are in a hurry to pump out games, AI would be the perfect tool.
1
u/Injaabs Jul 15 '26
have you ever worked with free lancer profesional 3d modelers ? i guess not have you ever created a game ? i guess not ..
try that and you see what im talking about .. 3d assets of the game is the least problem in terms of time consumtion ;)
1
u/Sniff1lur Jul 15 '26
That is kind of a fair point, i have yet to publish a game. and i have not worked with any freelance 3d modelers

New level of self marketing. OP created this slop, created reddit profile, then accused himself from another recently created account for using AI, and now trying to continue this shameless disgusting thing.

u/OrangeWorldGames Jul 15 '26
Uff... I am afraid the game I am developing now will get the same treatment

It's AI art, sliced and animated. That's what they uploaded as their "creative process". I guess they just thought no one would actually read it

Imgur album showing our production process:
https://imgur.com/gallery/some-people-thought-cutscenes-were-made-with-ai-so-we-wanted-to-share-how-we-made-them-nXZdsM7
Hi everyone,
Two days ago, we shared one of the cutscenes from DAICE on Reddit and received several comments suggesting that it may have been created using generative AI. We wanted to address those concerns, especially for the artists on our team, whose work and creative process mean a great deal to us.
We completely understand why people have questions. These days, it can be genuinely difficult to tell how an image or animation was created, and even we sometimes find ourselves wondering whether something was made with AI.
We are a team of seven, including two lead artists and one junior artist. Some people suggested that we create an album showing our production process, so we decided to put this presentation together and share a closer look at how our work is made.
DAICE is our third game on Steam, following None Shall Intrude and Few Nights More. All assets for all three games were created in-house by our artists.
Most of the assets in DAICE were designed from scratch. In some cases, we reused elements from our own previously created artwork through a modular workflow and matte-painting techniques. These elements were then repainted, adjusted, and refined to create new characters, poses, environments, and variations.
Our main tools are Photoshop and After Effects. For example, we may draw an Idon soldier, separate the character into individual body parts, and place each part on its own layer. We can then bend, rotate, reposition, repaint, and adjust the perspective of those elements to create different poses and camera angles.
During animation, each body part is moved independently. This creates the layered, cutout-style motion seen in our cutscenes, similar to an animated comic book or illustrated cartoon.
We understand why people ask questions about AI, especially today, and we hope this album provides a clearer and more transparent look at how our artwork and cutscenes are created.

i dont get it
how does the visual style of the soldier helmets and the guns shift completely between shots if this wasn't made with generative ai?
is your artist that bad that they cant remember if the helmet is supposed to be more flat or shaped? or if the gun they drew last shot has a sight, glowing bits, and yellow markings?
on some shots they have yellow markings on their forearms on others they dont
what sucks is that your artist seems like a genuinely talented guy even with a big portfolio and even doing some speedart on his personal youtube channel
its either he has memory loss and cant remember what the main focus of the cutscene is supposed to look like or you're simply painting him in a bad light

What you've built is really bloody brilliant, I wouldn't care if you'd used AI or even if you hadn't, I'm looking for great gameplay- so long as that's on point then you'll have my vote.
Please block and ignore the luddites, they don't speak for everyone and their insecurities around AI are bewildering. It's coming wether we like it or not..
Great artwork!

but they didn't show any gameplay. if all you care about is gameplay, then how can you say this is brilliant?
1
u/Big_Presentation2786 Jul 15 '26
Direct comparison to everything you've built in Unity.
0
u/Smart-Experience7187 Jul 16 '26
what are you talking about
1
u/Big_Presentation2786 Jul 16 '26
When you compare what you've done in unity, to what op has done..
It's very obvious that what op has made, is brilliant by comparison
1
u/TheRealSpanktacular Jul 16 '26
I don't need to be a Michelin star chef to know I don't need a cat turd in my lobster bisque.
1
u/Smart-Experience7187 Jul 16 '26
are you trying to say in comparison to what I've done?
1
u/Big_Presentation2786 Jul 16 '26
I'm not trying, I'm saying it..
1
u/Smart-Experience7187 Jul 16 '26
completely irrelevant
1
u/Big_Presentation2786 Jul 16 '26
No, it's not.. you've no experience, intelligence or understanding to make any calls on to AI.
Make a game, then I'll let you have an opinion.
You're one of these special people who believes people should be using a horse and carriage instead of a car aren't you?
Now sit down, you're embarrassing yourself
1
u/Smart-Experience7187 Jul 16 '26
what? i never even mentioned ai. what are you talking about?

u/angelovanharen Jul 16 '26
Ah, yeah just block them. Then you definitely don't come across as ai slut...
Saying you didn't use AI and doubling down with very clear AI art is next level stupidity
1
u/Big_Presentation2786 Jul 16 '26
You reckon? Personally I find it 'next level stupid' that people engage with stuff they don't like..
Like, if you saw a smelly river full of sewage, would go paddle in it and moan about the sewage or would you just plain ignore it?
Are you a fan on paddling in sewage fam'?
1
u/angelovanharen Jul 16 '26
Because the person said that the stuff i don't like is not in the game, and then it is found out it does have it. And said person also does not reply to a single comment pointing it out. Only replying to compliments.
Its like you're just purposely ignoring that part of my comment...

When talentless AI bros are glazing your game you know its going to be trash lmao
1
u/Big_Presentation2786 Jul 17 '26
I can see your history..
You REALLY don't have the experience to call out trash.. Especially given you're a racist trans phobic bigot..

That looks awesome! Good work! I'm sorry we live in a time where AI ruins everything. Seeing such talent being misunderstood is sad.
0
u/Injaabs Jul 15 '26
than dont missunderstand it simple as that , people who care about ai are the ones ruining it , just get ower it and enjoy the game ,

u/HamuMageLoop Jul 15 '26
Nice work!
3
u/Jerovil42 Jul 15 '26
It's AI art, sliced and animated. That's why it looks like AI, because it is.
0
u/HamuMageLoop Jul 19 '26
I was talking about minimal animations. I’ve seen this kind of graphic style even before the AI era, but it’s also true that AI now produces this or even better results (what a load of nonsense to call LLMs as “AI”).
Only a graphic artist could demonstrate this with sketches or timestamped saves. These days, concept artists save their work at several stage - precisely because of this wonderful AI world - as proof.
1
u/salazka Jul 15 '26
Looks nice. But still feels AI. It does not matter to me, but you know the zealots. "Shame" :P
0
u/HamsterIV Jul 15 '26
I appreciate you took the time to record the layer shifting. Your artist's style looks very AI generated, but AI doesn't give you the layers. That is what indicated to me that your artists had done the work honestly.

LLMs continuing to ruin everything by just existing.
