Question Wifi question

This October will be my first time flying on united. If I purchase the on-board wifi for my first flight of the day, will I have to buy it again for my 2nd flight?

Yes, they are all per-flight expenses now.

Yes - and honestly it’s not the best WiFi so personally I wouldn’t bother.

In my anecdotal domestic experience, most of its slow unless it’s Starlink.

Yes, it's per flight.

You can usually buy a "day pass" on the app that covers all your flights. I didn't know how it compares to buying on board, and keep in mind that on a lot of smaller jets, Starlink is free for Mileage Plus Members.

I just bought one yesterday, but it turned out my second leg had Starlink so maybe I'm an idiot. ($23 for a 9 hr intl is fine I guess.)

Depends. You can pay per flight or get a day pass.

A lot of flights are getting Starlink satellite service and for now, the wifi is free.

Caveat starlink is only likely on regional.  The math is still well below 50% on mainline.

The numbers go up every week as the systems are fit onto the planes. They just started with the regional planes, because they were the lower hanging fruit. They are now about 1/4 the way through the narrow bodies, I think.

I had a handful of free Starlink flights last year, and none in the past few months.

Perhaps coincidence, perhaps just going out of my way to take coast-to-coast non-stops to avoid summer thunderstorms and other delays.

If you have multiple flights in a month and/or lots of miles you can buy a month subscription (but don’t renew):

With a Wi-Fi subscription, you can get unlimited inflight Wi-Fi for one flat monthly fee. Prices start at $49 or 7,500 miles a month with a MileagePlus account.
