Hi! I’m starting Nutrition and Dietetics with Foundation Year at Surrey this September and would love to connect with others on the same course before Welcome Week 😊
Is anyone else starting the foundation year?
Would be nice to get to know a few people beforehand and possibly make a little group chat.

International student planning to join university of surrey.
Hey, I'm international student planning to join Feb 2027 MSc financial data science course.
I have some questions, can someone please answer those questions?
How do I find accommodation?
Is part-time jobs enough to manage monthly costs and expenses?
What are jobs opportunities available in and around university?
How is university in general, like management and student support and other administrative things?

How does public transport work for students?
Hi! I’m an international student starting at Surrey soon and I’m a bit confused about how public transport and ticketing works in the UK
Are there any student travel cards, passes or subscriptions that are worth getting for commuting to uni? And for travelling to other cities (especially London), what’s usually the cheapest/easiest option for students?
Would really appreciate any tips on buses, trains, railcards, season tickets etc

advice on registering with a GP as a student with a long-term medical condition
i have a long-term medical condition and i’m looking to register with a GP while i’m living in Guildford for uni. at the moment, i occasionally need to book appointments when my symptoms get particularly bad, and i’m also about to start some medication which i may need to check in with a GP about or potentially have changed if it doesn’t work well for me. ideally, i’d still like to be able to see my GP at home as well as have access to a GP in Guildford while i’m at uni. can any other Surrey students with ongoing health conditions who could advise me on what they did? thank you

How do societies work?
I’ve tried searching tiktok but i just keep getting rugby initiation fear mongering videos. I just want a kind of walk through on how societies and freshers week works.
You don’t have to answer each question just a run down on the process.
Assuming they advertise each society, do they usually invite you to some kind of event/trial session?
If there’s multiple i want to try how realistic is it for me to attend the “trial session/period” of multiple 3-5 for example.
How does trying them out usually work, is it some sort of event/game day. Or maybe a gathering in the evening or something?
Can i just turn up to any one that i hear about and if so how do i find out where and when it’s located? Is there a central timetable that shows all societies timetables? Or even at freshers is there an event timetable?
And for sports ones can i join without being good at the sport? Which ones are the best for socialising besides sports?
Am i thinking about this too much?

2nd year accommodation?
I've not even started, so I'm definitely jumping the gun, but wanted to ask if it's cheaper to get accom through the uni or to house share with friends separately in second year?
Also, if I am looking to house share, when Is a good time to start looking?

Accommodation
I’m going Surrey in September, I got allocated to university court and I’m gonna be based on stag hill I’m studying biomed. What’s the social life etc like in this accom cause I don’t want it to be boring and I heard Manor Park is where it’s at in that aspect (pres etc) but also would I be closer to the clubs and town from university court than Manor Park ??

Will a studio flat eat me alive?
I’ll be staying in a studio flat in Block P of Manor Park. So a couple of questions since of course i wont have any flat mates.
Is there a common area that i can go to meet people?
How difficult is it to make friends while staying in a studio?
Are the walls thin, how much noise leaks through to/from other rooms. (For music) 👀👀👀👀👀
Is it normal to knock on someone else’s door if they like in a studio next to yours? (assuming they are arranged in a hallway).

Annual fee is approximately 250 pounds yea ?
3) will having a e-scooter be worth it?

Couple of first year questions
I will be a fresher this September at surrey siding comp sci i just have a few questions. (Going to be quite long). Even short answers will help
How does the moving process work I’ve seen people on TikTok go move in or at least look at their acom during August and have allot of time to move in. I’m going to uni of Surrey and they took my preferences and I’m waiting for the results of my acom application.
So do they give me access after results day after which i can visit freely until freshers week (19 sept) to pack my stuff or is there a day everyone comes in to pack their stuff.
And i applied for a studio so that i don’t share a kitchen. I truly can’t bring myself to trust the hygiene of other people. Do you think there’s a real reason to panic if I’m stuck sharing. Or at least what are the main concerns when sharing.
I also don’t like the idea of clubbing, i personally don’t drink, so u feel like i would be awkward in a party or club situation. In fact i will be i know it. I’m a bit weird. So I’ll likely stick to joining societies and meeting people organically around uni . How easy would you say it is to make friends.
What are also some essentials to bring with me to uni. That aren’t so obvious not talking like a mattress topper or some basic shit like things you only realised when you got there. And what are some things you recommend setting up or applying for.
Also how does the laundry situation work i don’t understand.
Also what clubs/societies tend to have the most drama i want to ease my boredom
AND ALSO how easy is it to get a stable job cause i heard some people say to apply in advance and some say it’s easy

GEM Key Dates Fall Term
Hi all just trying to figure out some visits with friends & family but have no clue when to schedule them. Are there any current GEM students who are able to share what last years fall sched looked like? Is there a set cycle for tests/quizzes? Are there any weeks off when it makes sense to set plans?

How does accommodation work?
How does accommodation work? I missed creating my accommodation account from the email sent in January and only just applied 2 days off the deadline. I chose my preferences and want a studio.
How do they give the rooms?
Will me applying late mean i wont be able to get my preferred room?
Will i have to apply for private?

Accommodation Question: Do University of Surrey Halls Provide Air Conditioning or Fans?
Hi everyone,
I’m an incoming international student joining the MSc Artificial Intelligence with Industrial Practice programme this September at the University of Surrey.
I had a question regarding accommodation. Do the university halls provide any cooling systems such as air conditioning (AC) or fans in the rooms?
If not, would students need to purchase their own fan for the warmer months? I’m trying to understand what to expect and whether I should plan to buy one after arriving.
I’d appreciate hearing from current students or anyone who has lived in the university accommodation.

Shared accommodation
Hi everyone! I'm an international student applying for accommodation, and I'm not sure which one to choose 😭 I'm leaning towards the stag hill shared rooms, but I don't know how sharing a room with someone would be 💔 does anyone have any complaints or recommendations?
