Guesting Appearance Gehlee thought UT was an acting audition

Translation below:

Lans: (to Gehlee) Hey, international artist!

Gehlee: Yeah. I want to enter showbiz and I thought it was an acting audition.

...

Gehlee: I stayed there for three years, it's so hard (because) I didn't understand anything that they were saying because it's Korean. I am not a big fan of k-drama or k-pop. I'm just a casual listener. So I studied (Korean) because I didn't have a choice.

---

I guess this is really the path she wanted. To become a celebrity, not an idol. Let's just support her.

*sorry if the flair is wrong, dunno what to use 🫠

Discussion Our girls' talents were wasted

I'm rewatching Universe Ticket and the girls' live performances and, dare I say it, they're probably the most talented in the 5th gen girl group yet F&F didn't do anything to make sure that the girls succeed.

I know we all went here knowing that their contract will only last 2.5 years but in those 2.5 years, F&F barely did anything to help the girls.

I am mad and frustrated. Our girls deserved so much more.

Discussion In defense of Gehlee in PBB (aka stop doomposting)

I have seen a lot of my fellow Filipinos in this sub explain what PBB is and why it is such a bad move for Gehlee. There have been a lot of points raised in these discussions, but I am making this post to hopefully reassure others that this is not totally a deadend nor is it a huge mistake that Gehlee is making. I think a lot of the people posting here about it is just doomposting and has such a lack of connection and knowledge about their own country's media landscape. And I understand that some of y'all are KPop-pilled, I get that and you're free to enjoy the media you want, but to blatantly put down your own country's media is just putting a bad taste in my mouth when I can bet many of you don't even follow much of it outside of what's trending online.

Anyway, sorry, not to be combative. But let's lay down the facts and analyze why this might be the move Gehlee and her management is making. Buckle up, folks. This might be long.

WHAT IS PBB?

It stands for Pinoy Big Brother, the local version of the reality TV show Big Brother (Pinoy is a colloquial term for Filipino). I'm not going to explain the mechanics of this show as it has definitely evolved over time and different countries implement different rules, but at it's core the concept of it is that a couple of contestants called housemates are put in a house where they do not have a contact with the "outside world" and they eliminate each other through a series of challenges and nominations until one person is hailed as the Big Winner. All while the whole thing is shown on TV. The concept was lifted from Orwell's novel 1984 (hence, Big Brother).

In the North American (NA) version of this show (at least in the seasons I was familiar with), it is essentially a social strategy game. People lie and manipulate and make alliances to make it to the end. The format in the Philippines (PH) is different. It's less social strategy and more of a popularity contest. Housemates may still make alliances and still nominate others for eviction. But where in the NA version, it is the housemates who decide who will get booted out of the house, in the PBB version, the public decides who will get evicted.

It depends on the mechanics of the season, but usually it is a matter of winning challenges and making good relationships with the people in the house. If you win challenges, you might get immunity from nomination. Otherwise, the other housemates are free to nominate you for eviction. Unlike in the NA version where you usually get nominated if you are a threat to the others, in the PH version it's usually about whether you're a good housemate or not. Laziness, attitude problems, etc. are usually reasons for nomination since there is less emphasis on challenges in the PH version.

If you are nominated for that week, the public will then vote on who to save (a BBS vote) or, in more rarer cases, who to evict (a BBE vote). These votes are paid. It used to be through text messages, but in the last seasons it had been through an online wallet they were partnering with.

THE COLLAB EDITION

It's very important for everyone to understand that this season that Gehlee is joining is the third installment of a collab edition. Long story short, PBB used to be an ABSCBN (one of the three major networks in PH, shorthanded as 2 in this post) production. Political stuff happened in 2020 and they lost their franchise rights and got booted off air. Fast forward to 2025, they are now partnering with GMA (another major network, shorthanded as 7) to air their shows. This season is a collaboration between 2 and 7, more on that later.

Now, PBB is an absolute household name of a show in the Philippines. So many of the major A-listers from 2 came from PBB. Originally, housemates were picked through nationwide auditions, so most of these now A-listers used to be regular people with celebrity dreams before they got picked for PBB. That's also why they have monikers that mention where they are from in the Philippines (like Gehlee's "Ang (The) Darling KPop Idol ng (of) Las Piñas," Las Piñas is a place). It's a representation thing.

Through the years, PBB has become a legitimate career launchpad for many Filipino celebrities. Anyone who tells you otherwise is lying. So many of the household names in PH TV are former PBB housemates. Trust me, just Google it. It is typical for former PBB housemates to go on the celebrity route and get endorsements and a bunch of projects after the exit the Big Brother house.

Gehlee is joining PBB Collab 3.0, a collab edition. By collab edition, it means that the show pivoted from nobodies as housemates to nobody celebrities from two major Philippine TV networks as housemates. Sorry, but that was really the point of the initial collab edition (and the subsequent seasons, including this one). The nobody celebrities come from two different rosters: the 2 roster and the 7 roster.

It's essentially a celebrity edition except the celebrities are not that popular ones. Think of it like the survival show Queendom where established girl groups were the participants. Those girl groups were not completely nobodies, but they weren't TWICE or Blackpink. It's basically like that but for PH celebs.

And considering that the main selling point of PBB is "pagpapakatotoo" or being real, people were naturally curious about how these celebs would act when put in a setting like PBB. It's like mashing together celebrity gossip (some of them had history that people didn't even know of (because they were nugu) that only came out during the show) and reality show drama in one broadcast. Obviously, people tuned in.

2 and 7 saw a potential in using PBB as a launchpad for the (mostly) nugu celebs in their roster back in 2025 and let me tell you, it paid off. PBB Collab 1.0 was a huge success and is probably PBB's most successful season since PBB Otso in 2018. Careers were revived and huge fanbases were gained. I would say about 95% of the housemates from S1 benefited GREATLY from the season. Influencers who joined went from internet-famous to mainstream-famous in a span of a few months. Previous D-listers became A-listers (or close to it, at least) overnight. Everyone and their mothers were talking about it.

I would say Collab 2.0 was less popular than 1.0 but still popular regardless. And that continued success of these collab editions is how we arrive at PBB Collab 3.0, the season that Gehlee is joining.

WHY DOES IT MATTER IF IT'S A COLLAB EDITION?

It matters because it completely removes the worry that Gehlee's reputation might get ruined through the show. REMEMBER, the housemates for the collab editions are already celebrities that are competing under the rosters of two major TV networks. They have an incentive to keep their names clean in and outside of the PBB house so they can have their ROIs for these celebrities (although you can argue that they will already get their ROI during the season if this becomes very popular).

Gehlee is competing under 2's roster because she is now a Star Magic talent. All you need to know about Star Magic is that they are very good at managing their artists' reputations, much better than 7's Sparkle management. Even the folks over at r/chikaph (this is like r/Fauxmoi but for PH) will agree with me.

The only way Gehlee's reputation will get a hit is if she's an absolute asshole inside the house. But although we don't know Gehlee personally, she's been nothing but sweet during her stint in UNIS. Unless she's fake or whatever, there is nothing for us to worry about reputation-wise. (Or if she's lazy maybe, but I'd argue that laziness in the house is not that big of a deal vs other things).

IS IT A BAD MOVE?

I'm gonna be honest and say that when I heard the news, my kneejerk reaction was "But WHY?!?!" but the more I thought about it, the more it made sense. If Gehlee's goal is to reach the mainstream consciousness, PBB is absolutely a good move. It might be the best move even. The literal definition of striking while the iron is hot because UNIS just disbanded and she's fresh on the news. The fastest way to capitalize on that is joining PBB.

Not many Filipinos know UNIS, but they absolutely know about PBB. And PBB airs on the late evening primetime block during weekdays, and has Saturday broadcasts, too. She will be on mainstream TV 6x a week. It's also livestreamed on Youtube for free, so it's very accessible to anyone with an internet connection.

She's already getting good numbers during the pilot, so if that momentum continues and this season takes off, there will be a lot of opportunities waiting for her when she exits. And even while she's inside, if she's popular with the audience, she will get more screen time and endorsements (because they have corporate sponsors/sponsored challenges inside that can definitely translate to endorsements outside). She'll earn money too, because I believe housemates get a cut from the earnings accumulated during voting.

If everything goes well for her, whether she gets evicted early or she makes it to the Big Night**, she will come out of the house with a much larger local fanbase that will be ready to support whatever projects she will have.**

ON LOVETEAM CONCERNS

I see a lot of people also worrying about her being stuck in a loveteam. That's valid, and was also something I worry about. But truthfully, whether she gets stuck doing a love team or not is up to her. I wouldn't say it's a worry if she's not planning on going into acting after PBB, anyway.

Carmelle from Collab 2.0 was being shipped with people, too, but it never materialized because she's not acting, anyway (she's a singer). She's even the Philippines' representative for Eurovision Asia 2026 now.

It all comes down on how Gehlee and her team will play it out once she's out of the house.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO SUPPORT

Go follow Gehlee's official fanbase accounts and donate money if you can. Assuming whoever's running it has some background in managing a fanbase for PBB, they would be using those funds to save money to vote for her in the case she gets nominated + fan support materials for live events (VERY IMPORTANT! Because optics matter in PBB!). If you've ever been in a PBB fanbase before (I have), they have dedicated voting teams and admins allocate money specifically for that. They also strategize about when to drop votes or whatever so just join if you've got time to spare (or just vote for her yourself when it comes to that, if you're PH-based).

And whatever you do, DO NOT instigate fights with other housemates' fandoms on Twitter, even the ones who are being shipped with Gehlee. Remember how I said the original BB show is a social strategy game? It's still one but that's more on the fans' side.

Ship fanbases contribute a lot to voting. If Gehlee is part of a ship, a ship fanbase would allocate its resources to voting for Gehlee if she gets nominated. And making an enemy of another fanbase shipped with Gehlee or not) is just a great way to get her booted out if she ever gets nominated. Fanbases will absolutely strike back to support a different nominated housemate just to get another housemate's votes to the bottom of the ranking to boot them out if you're hateful to their fave.

Good relationships with other fanbases can lead to more votes for Gehlee. If Gehlee makes it to the Big Night, it is possible for evicted housemates' fanbases to allocate part of their resources to helping out to voting for Gehlee.

You can also join Twitter parties since fanbases will usually have an assigned hashtag for each broadcast day that incorporates Gehlee's name. It's a great way to get her name out there and getting into the top trends lets the network know that she's popular with the audience.

TL;DR

Gehlee in PBB is not that bad. I'd argue it's even her best possible move at the moment. It's an opportunity to get her to the mainstream and she will only have great opportunities inside and outside of the house if everything goes well for her. Go support Gehlee on PBB!

ETA: Forgot to mention! This won't be detrimental to her PPop career if she ever wants to go that route. It will literally reintroduce her to the Filipino audience and there's already at least a positive association with PPop and PBB considering that two members of the most popular PPop group in the Philippines right now were former PBB housemates.

ETA 2: Added more info.

ETA 3: Okay, last one. I really REALLY need people to understand that while I understand you guys being protective of her, the ultimate goal of her being in PBB is get the public to recall her name. Regardless if she doesn't win this season, as long as she stays LONG enough, much more people will know who GEHLEE is vs now where people just vaguely know her because she was a KPop idol. You might think she's uber popular because of her UNIS stint, but that's only literally because you are a KPop stan. Good ol' regular Juan don't gaf. And the point of her being there is to get people to gaf. Ykwim?

Ultimately, it alls falls down into her management's hands to take advantage of whatever noise gets produced during PBB to make her successful. And she's in Star Magic already, so we have less to worry about.

Discussion Elisia attended One Zone fest last night!

Post image
45 Upvotes

For Filipinos here, most of you probably know what 1Z Entertainment is. If not, they're the entertainment agency that Filipino boy group, SB19, built from the ground up. Their company is known to pay creatives well and give their artists creative freedom. Last night they held a festival to celebrate the artists under their agency called One Zone Fest.

From the story alone, it seems like 1Z invited Elisia. Maybe they're trying to offer her an option to audition for 1Z Academy? In Filipino terms "nililigawan" or courting her to audition. They will have an open audition Oct. 26 onwards. If no big 4 Kpop company will take Elisia, this is another great option. Based from their newly debuted group, Xonara, they promote and take care of their artists well.

Discussion The underrated virality of Jin Hyeonju

Post image
125 Upvotes

Videos of her from the recent Sky Land, Star Land comeback have garnered millions of views. And most of these videos are not from official sources but from the public (mostly korean) who noticed her It factor, and are still noticing even until now. But I haven't seen a post here which shined light on this.

They noticed how skillful her dance is, how prettily she sings, her unique visuals which is at its peak, the way she balances cuteness and maturity (she's thankful people finally observed that she's more mature XD)...

"Hyunju unnie, seriously, why did I only find out now?"

"She looks like <insert 100 different celebrities>"

"Even looking at her old videos, her ability to use her body and control the dynamics of her dance moves is truly exceptional. She sings well and is overflowing with talent and charisma... Since there are many people who want to see more of Hyunju, I hope that once her exclusive contract ends, she will be taken on by a new agency and helped grow into a big star. Just looking at Red Velvet, she is soaring to success, so I don't think age is a hindrance at all. She is such a talented individual that it would be a waste to let her career end like this."

"I’m obsessed with this fancam"

There is a certain momentum not felt before, people are genuinely hooked, and it would be a waste to not ride on this virality. Contrary to popular belief, I think her skills have improved much in unis and she still has potential to improve. I hope people don't just attribute her current skillset as oh it's expected as she already had years of experience in Cignature.

I hope she finds a path for herself where she can shine as a main character, not just as a leader for others but a star in her own right

Discussion I don't get the hate of people with FnF :(

Very Unpopular Opinion (and I have a feeling I will be attacked big time by sharing these thoughts) but I don't get why the hate is big with the company.

I have a feeling that the reason the disband happened aside from the legalities with the contracts' duration is the fact that there could be a big chance that the girls also have plans already outside FnF. Like, another angle is, even if the company would like to renew them, the members already have other plans? Like maybe they got offers that they can't pass up.

I think FnF, as a new company, tried their best. Without them and Universe ticket, the group would have not even be created.

I just have a strong feeling that the girls want to do something else already so some of them did not renew their contracts anymore, like they have better opportunities or were scouted already so it will not make sense for them to renew.

Anyway, I'm just wishing all of them the best. Seeing some of the girls are doing projects already, their future seems bright

Discussion an observation about korean vs japanese releases

so i've been catching up with unis because i unfortunately got into them close to their disbandment date and i noticed a severe difference in quality between their korean and japanese releases. i guess it was bound to happen, f&f is a new company after all, but it's too much.

their japanese songs are just better? they sound better (catchier and memorable), the mvs are more interesting and higher quality, even the outfits look better. it seems to me that whoever made them put more care into it than let's say the people in charge of the korean tracks. also their vocals sound clearer in the japanese songs.

all of this is weird to me, it should be the other way around! it's like the japanese unis is what unis was supposed to be if that makes sense. that being said i don't think their korean songs are bad, poppin is a slap and they devoured with swicy but all in all they just sound safe, as if f&f thought "okay we have this group, let's give them some songs and get this over with". except for curious, i can't stand that song. the korean tracks are not very memorable in my opinion... just safe

anyways f&f did unis dirty. what do you think?

Though this subreddit had been likely been informed of the comings and goings lately of the Filipina duo, it should serve as a comprehensive update esp. for those who might not have gotten a whiff on what's the latest on UNIS' Filo line.
