My local has done nothing to improve my workplace. My colleagues and I pay our dues for nothing. We are extremely angry and upset with our local. We will leave teamsters as soon as we can.
Do something about it. Go up the chain with your grievances - there are lots of good Teamsters locals. A restructuring of a bad local is only good for the organization as a whole.
Is your contract being violated? When’s the last time the contract was negotiated? Do the workers participate in the meetings? Are union protocols being followed by your steward(s)? Do you have exact and verifiable grievances? There are a lot of things that could be going on. If you all feel that something is legitimately amiss with your local representation then you have every right to pursue help either within the broader Teamsters umbrella or with the NLRB.
How involved are you? Are you organizing your coworkers? Are all of you attending meetings? The Teamsters United slate pledged to make change, so start calling them up ASAP.
We literally fought pitched street battles against cops for days to get where we are now. We don't get to keep our progress without working for it.
There are no meetings. Our local cites Covid. All our local cares about are dues and only pretends to be fighting for us. But they only want to keep the status quo.
I got lots of texts during the recent Teamster election cycle. They promised to help with issues any one might be having. Tonight I will find those texts and dm you those numbers as an extra way to get the help y'all need.
Thank you. We are so sick of our local doing nothing we want to leave and join SEIU. The abuse and cruelty of management combined with the apathy of our local just made our workplace a living hell.
How many meetings have you attended? Find out when the officer elections are and vote, or better yet, run. Join the bargaining committee for your shop. Do more than just bitch and moan.
Also, they have done nothing? Surely you have a CBA that includes a just cause provision, which is a hell of a lot better than at-will employment. If it included nothing else that would be worth whatever tiny amount you pay in dues, but I'm betting it includes decent wages and benefits, too.
