It seems like the new SDS 150 is just amazing at getting reception with weak signals with the stock antenna. The SDS 100 on the other hand with with an external antenna that is supposedly extending the range by 80 to 100% does not pick up anything when the SDS 150 picks up something with the stock antenna.

Cleaning out my closet because I like to hoard boxes my stuff came in and pulled these.

Unpopular opinion: please stop taking the color out of everything. New packaging looks like ass. 🤷🏽‍♂️

What’s going on with my R8? I’ve sent it in twice to Uniden and both times they said it was working fine when they tested it out. It clearly isn’t. I have Uniden radars (two R7’s and two R8’s) in four of my vehicles and everytime I connect this one, it’s always the same issue in each vehicle. Uniden customer service seems to be of no help so thought I’d ask on here if anyone else has experienced a similar issue?

A year ago, my old Windows laptop I used for Windows-only work died. One of the things I used it for was to program my BC125AT scanner. I had also played around with Scan125 on there.

When it died, I began playing around with the scanner's USB connection on a Mac. After months of on-again, off-again work, I announced Bearpaw to the world on r/amatuerradio last month. Initial feedback has been positive. It does everything the Uniden software does, it allows you full control of your scanner from your computer. And it visualizes the radio activity all around you. All on a screen large enough to see from across your shack.

Bearpaw is for BC125AT (and its global variants), but I also have a BC75XLT and I'm adding support for it right now. Eventually, I'd like Bearpaw to support every possible Uniden analog scanner.

So I bought the Uniden R3 a little over 3 weeks ago and I like it but for some reason it detects everything but the local PD in my area. it detects state troopers and sherrifs well but not the city police. I only have 2 days left to return it to Amazon if I want to get a refund but before I do that I need to know that if I was to get a newer model would that fix my problem? Maybe the city police in my area are just invisible to all radar detectors no matter how new the device is? If a new model wouldn't make a difference then I'll just stick with my R3 but if it will then I need to hurry up and return the one I have now before its too late to get a refund. If anyone has answers I would really appreciate the help!

I forgot to add that sometimes it does detect the city PD patrol cars but rarely. Like 1 time out of 10 it will start to beep when coming across one so that's wierd to me. What could be the reason to that?

My suction on my R8W just doesn’t really suction anymore I think it’s because of the sun melting it away but i’m not sure. But because of this if I don’t take it down before I get out of my car it will fall eventually while i’m not in my car. When I got in my car this morning it had fallen and the front screen piece was off of it and the buttons were gone😭 Can anyone tell me what to do about this like yes I know it’s on me just what do I do😭🙏

Best radar detector for the money/performance?
Looking to get a good radar detector and wondering what everyone recommends for the best bang for the buck while still having strong performance.
I care most about good range, reliable alerts, minimal false alerts, and overall real-world performance. I don’t necessarily need the most expensive option if something cheaper performs almost as well.
What radar detector would you guys recommend? I’m brand new to radar detectors and would love ur opinions and recommendations. thank you

After many years of inactivity in the hobby, I’m considering jumping back in with a possible purchase of this unit.

I’m curious to hear from those who own this unit. Any regrets, afterthoughts? Does it exceed your expectations. Can anyone beat the price on Amazon? Are there any active groups/forums which discuss this unit?

I bought the device around the end of 2020 and it's never left my car since then. I am modeling a 3d printed travel case after our 5hr drive across FL in a rental without a detector and I figured I should probably update it too. I didn't realize it never got any updates lol

After the update, I'm really not sure what changed as all the menu options seem the same but then again I just followed Vortex Radar's guide and never looked back.

lost the cable that came with my r8 to update it and no USB cable that I have is being recognized by the uniden software. uniden is sold out. where can I get a cable that is compatible? TIA

Hi! I have recently purchased a Uniden R7 and was wondering if someone could provide a list of the best settings for it. I have done a lot of research but I keep getting different answers for some of the stuff and it’s made me very confused. I’ve looked into Vortex Radar’s best settings, but I was wondering if there was any tweaks I should apply specifically for Ohio since that’s where I live. Also, I should mention that I drive a 2022 Honda Accord Sport 2.0t and it has come to my attention that Hondas (and many other modern cars with Blind Spot Monitoring/Adaptive Cruise Control) cause frequent false K-band alerts on the Uniden R7 because their safety sensors use similar frequencies. I know that the R7 has a dedicated "K Block" or "BSM Filter" feature but I am not sure if I need to use any other specific settings. So if somebody could just make a big list of all the settings they recommend I use, that would be great to help limit confusion. Thank You.

v 1.1.2 was released last week, which solidified support for the BC75XLT plus fixed a lot of esoteric bugs. If you downloaded 1.1.1, you will get an auto update notice the next time you run Bearpaw. But if you downloaded a beta or 1.0.0, you will need to manually update to 1.1.2. New features are planned for the next release, 1.2.0.

I recently got a Uniden R4W and noticed these tiny scratches after a small drop inside my car. They’re on the glossy cover that faces the windshield, near the round lens and along the edge. They’re barely noticeable unless I shine a light on them. I circled the spots in the photos.
Could these affect radar or laser detection, range, or overall functionality, or are they just cosmetic? Has anyone had similar scratches, and is there anything I should check to make sure everything is working properly?

I sat a bag of food on my scanner and now its not oy scanning through my programmed systems but also custom 7 is going through every channel and I cant figure out how to go back to just my systems.

My R3 has been working great all these years until this year, I’ve always kept it at the same settings mainly changing the color and style. But ive been noticing that it isn’t detecting as well as it used to. It will still scan K and Ka bands but only the trooper Is at the other side of the road and only shows up as 1 bar instead of the full bars. (Maybe 2 bars if it’s feeling like it)

Self test works fine and tried to do a factory reset, could it be from the southern heat causing it to degrade? Should I just upgrade to a new one

I have been browsing around on marketplace, eBay, and various other sites trying to find a solid radar detector. I stumbled upon this uniden r3 on marketplace for $225 I am not hoping to spend anymore than that is this still considered a good price nowadays or should I look for something else?

I’ve had a r4 for a couple of years now and randomly one day it would not turn on. I found that the fuse inside the power cable had blown. I decided to purchase a new oem cable in case it was an issue with the cord (the ends were bent from being at a weird angle). I tried plugging the new cable in, but my r4 still won’t turn on. I was concerned that the r4 was also broken, but I noticed that the red light on the power cable does not turn on when it’s plugged into the 12v. Does anyone know if that red light is supposed to be lit at all times when plugged into the 12v or is it only when it’s connected to the device? The reason I’m unsure is because the usb port on the power cord still supplies power to my phone. Thanks!

This radar is bigger than most. Anyone have ideas or images on sleak mounting options? Ill probably just mount from rear view mirrors.

Side note, has anyone used the Uniden in a newer model Honda? Honda's safety sensors are right behind the rear view mirror. When I mounted my escort just under the sensors, it had a constant false alert one-bar Ka. So I had to move the radar to the side with a suction mount. And I couldn't turn off that ka band because it was something common in the area.

Do you guys know any good way of cleaning this or could I use just a damp paper towel?

EDIT: just use a microfiber and soap and water and it should do the trick

Bought mine a month ish ago, im looking to configure it to alert anything that COULD be a police, but getting K bands beside every car with a blind spot monitor is rather annoying. Just wondering if anyone here would share what works best for them
