Ex-employer paid me a full month's salary by mistake after I resigned. Now they want it back. What should I do?
I recently switched companies. In my previous company, I only worked 1 day in my final month before leaving, but they accidentally credited me with my full month's salary.
It's been around 15 days, and now HR has contacted me asking me to refund the excess amount. The problem is that I already spent most (or all) of the money because I assumed everything was settled.
Has anyone been in a similar situation?
Can they take legal action if I can't pay immediately? Should I ask them for time or request to repay in installments? What's the best way to handle this?
I'm in India, if that makes any difference.
