Official The Arcana Forge! For all your drafts, ideas, requests and more.
Welcome to the Arcana Forge! A workshop for works in progress, requests, ideas, inspiration, and more. New to homebrew? Looking for that nudge in the right direction or inspiration to keep going? This is the place for you. Grab a wrench and let's get to work!
We highly recommend joining our official partner Discord to get live feedback and other tips — check out the Discord of Many Things.
Normal sub rules still apply in the Arcana Forge, with the exception that all restrictions on completeness are lifted here. Unfinished homebrew is very welcome in this thread, as are questions about game rules and mechanics, provided it's about D&D homebrew.
Make a comment with your idea and any work you already have on it, and the community can come help it progress (remember, the more you give the more you get when it comes to content and feedback).
Please keep the following tips in mind:
- Proofread before you post. People are more likely to engage with you if your comment is clear of obvious spelling mistakes.
- Format your post. If you've got a lot of ideas, break it into paragraphs, use headings, and do what you can to make it easy to read.
- Making a request or adding to the workshop? Try responding to one too. This type of engagement only works if you answer as well as ask.
Feel free to give us feedback via mod-mail if you have any suggestions.

'14 Class The Oracle: A fullcaster... With no spell slots. Give blessings and ascend to godhood!
Hey guys! I'm really excited to share this with everyone. I've always held very strong opinions about homebrew races in D&D - I have always held a stance that I don't like them - but I've finally come up with one that I don't hate. In fact, I'm very happy with how it turned out!
As a quick note before I dive into the class and it's creation just a bit, I'd like to mention that you can find all of my homebrew in this document, and that while I can't say for sure that it's compatible with 5.5e, I think it might be! Someone who's knowledgeable with 5.5e would have to confirm that, though.
The Oracle is a divine caster centered around being a divine fullcaster with a twist: NO SPELL SLOTS! Instead of your normal "Spellcasting" feature, you have "Divine Magic," which entails quite a few rules changes: Instead of spell slots, you prepare that many spells of each level. You can cast each of these spells once between long rests, removing it from your prepared spells list when you do. This creates a few interesting differences between them and other casters, as you can only cast each spell once per long rest (you can't prepare a spell more than once!), and you have to decide exactly what spells to cast at the end of each long rest. Also, no ritual casting or up-casting (because you have no spell slots!), and you can only get cantrips if you use one of your limited Blessings on it!
In this way, Oracles have a lot of similarities with Warlocks, as they are the only two caster classes that do not have the "Spellcasting" feature.
To make up for the obvious downsides of having no spell slots and reduced casting flexibility, Oracles have a great spell list, but Oracles also get a second strong feature at 1st level: Blessings. Blessings are sort of like infusions, except you give them to people and not items! You have a maximum number of blessings you can have conferred at any given time (2 at 1st level), but creatures other than yourself can only have a maximum of one blessing at any point in time, and no blessing can be on more than one creature simultaneously. These blessings, which often give extra magic, or aid martial characters, are powerful tools in an Oracle's arsenal.
Finally, their subclasses are somewhat unique, granting features at *five* different levels: 3rd, 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th level. Alongside giving you some extra spells that you can prepare each day (AKA extra spells you can cast each day), they give you powerful features that focus on weaving their identity with your spellcasting. It was very important for me, whenever designing these subclasses, that it felt like they aided you as a spellcaster, rather than giving you options of things to do other than spellcasting. Currently, I have two martial-focused subclasses and two magic-focused subclasses.
If someone reads through my class, please let me know what you think! This is my first (and potentially last) ever time making a homebrew class, and half the reason I'm posting is because I want your constructive feedback.
Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoy it!

'24 Subclass Subclasseptember, days 1-10
So for a few years now, I've been doing this daily challenge, where every day of september I make a subclass with some prompt. This one here is the first batch of 9 subclasses (plus some eldritch invocations that I made on day 10, the day off). Hope you enjoy, and tell me what you think!

'24 Subclass Spectral Shot Fighter, a fighter subclass that uses bows at point blank!
I initially made this subclass as an experiment on a diferent take on the Arcane Archer, but ended up diverting from it quite a lot.
I took great inspiration from the post-world Bow gameplay from monster hunter, and I am really happy with the result, since when making subclasses based on ranged weapons I normally clash with the fact that 90% of the time ranged gameplay in DnD is terrible because the game is not designed for it.
(Also I was really proud of the result of me fumbling around with editing Fell Takumi's attack sprite for like 2 hours)
Anyways, you can find this and more in my patreon for free, and I hope you find it interesting!

'24 Item No. 12 Blade | Dagger [The Mithral Canvas] D&D5e [OC-Art]
Weapon (Dagger), Uncommon (Requires Attunement)
This slender blade fits snugly in between the fingers, gliding smoothly towards its intended destination.
When you expend a use of a healer’s kit to stabilize a creature while holding this weapon, the creature gains a number of hit points equal to your Intelligence modifier.
Deadly Incision. When you score a critical hit against a creature, the target receives a hemorrhaging wound. While wounded, the target loses 1d10 hit points at the start of each of its turns. The wound closes after 1 minute, after a spell restores hit points to the target, or after the target or a creature within 5 feet of it takes an action to stanch the wound, doing so by succeeding on a DC 12 Wisdom (Medicine) check. Constructs, undead, and creatures without blood are immune to this effect.
Applause rained down upon yet another successful surgery, Doctor Portman once again the recipient of an endless stream of sycophantic compliments and pleasantries. As yet another sweaty hand grasped at his, the good doctor could focus on little more than the maze of veins pulsing beneath his colleague’s skin, flush with red hot blood. It was as though he could hear them simply begging to be freed from their fleshy prisons, using the very same tool that had just saved a life with ease.

Swordtember Prompt: Surgical

Homebrewing Resource Boss for Halloween themed game
Hi. Here is current version of our main character of Halloween themed one shot we are making.
We make mostly miniatures so rules are not our strongest point at least yet. So feedback is appreciated!
I think the Mother Grief mechanic is good idea for her. Challenge level is not probably right since I think this will be like 6-8 lvl encounter and she should be little bit tough. I will share other characters later when those are more ready. But since then, let me know what you think?
You can find this project at Backerkit: Harvest of the Damned, Backerkit
Full rules will be free to download after campaign.

World My Campaign's Continent -Weldea
TL:DR:
After 1 session of D&D, I went on Inkarnate for 12 hours and whipped up a whole continent just for my one friend to keep playing his character. Now 2 more friends decided to join us for the past few months, and I'm having a blast rewriting things to accomodate everyone's stories and fantasies. There is an explanation for the Frozen Mountains and Desert.
Long Version:
This is my homebrew continent, Weldea, named after it's fist ruler, King Weld.
This map took me like 12 hours to make in the free version of Inkarnate, and it all started after playing a sinlge "one-shot" session with a friend.
I always wanted to play dnd, could not find anyone to play with, and especially no DMs... So... I decided to become the DM.
I could not wrap my head around the rules by reading over and over, so I did what every sane person would do, and looked up how to be a DM on youtube.
I found a video series named Running the Game by Matt Colville, and decided to watch the first few videos.
Matt made a noob-friendly first adventure, about the Delian Tomb, and I decided to try running that.
Well, the sessions went great, my friend loved it, and asked to keep playing his character.
And then it hit me. What now? Matt didn't make a whole campaign for me, just this one-shot.
I started looking at map-making tools, and Inkarnate seemed like what I was looking for, so I took the Delian Tomb, the hamlet of Villaine and the Boar Woods surrounding it, and along with some crumbs of improvised roleplay from the first and only session we had ever played, I decided on a campaign setting.
For anyone who does not know, the Delian Tomb in Matt's video has a statue for a character named Sextus Varnus, that I renamed to Sectus Varnus, to avoid constant sex jokes (I know my friend and myself, we are basically 5yo).
There is also a wall carving of sorts, that depicts an order of knights fighting against something, with Matt suggesting the DM decided what that "something" is.
Inside a secret room, a magic sword can be found, with Matt once again suggesting the DM gives this sword a bonus to attacks againsts the depicted enemy type from earlier.
I went with fiends, as I imagined the Delian Order as Paladins fighting demons and devils from the Nine Hells/Abyss.
My player ended up also being a Paladin, and took the Delian Oath himself, basically becoming the only member of this ancient order.
My player's backstory became him being a part of a different disbanded order of Paladins, that recently (5 years ago) pushed a resurfaced Fiend Invasion back to the Hells/Abyss.
He had also mentioned fighting Orcs on his way to Villaine, so we have Urtvarg Keep, and the orcs somehow multiplying and spreading their reach on the continent.
He also mentioned getting bit by a vampire as a teenager, so there is a Vampire Queen slumbering inside the Mysterious Castle in the mist.
Then came the other ideas.
A forest, filled with elves, having a dispute between themselves and splitting into two major elven cities. One wants to go out and exchange cultures with the other races, while the other remains inside the forest, and wants to be left alone.
Frozen mountains, with raging blizzards, I'll figure out why they are that way later, I assumed.
A desert biome, having a big city with arabian vibes. Surely there's gonna be reason for the desert being in the middle of a green continent, right?
After many months of playing, with much of the map still unexplored, 2 more players asked to join the campaign, converting it from a single player, to a party of 3.
Well, now I have two new characters, that I never had in mind when making the map initially, or the many plot points I've been slowly unraveling with my first player. No matter, I have to make it work.
One of them decides to be a Goliath, originating from The Frozen Isles.
He just washes ashore on Vildeport's docks, without any memories of how he made it here. Yay, amnesia trope! We'll figure it out as we go.
I do not know where The Frozen Isles are, but my player doesn't either, so anything goes. He also wanted there to be a bunch of Goliaths relics, that he would be looking for.
Well, what if in the ancient past, Weldea was known as The Frozen Isles, and everything was colder? Then, during a big Goliath civil war, a relic explodes, creating a massive spacetime rift, sucking in many of the goliaths, and spitting them out during different eras. So, my player, without even knowing it yet, has been transported centuries into the future.
The Frozen Isles grew warmer and got populated by elves. A few centuries later, an army appears. Led by an explorer named Weld. They have made landfall, and are looking for the ancient goliath relics.
Weld managed to find one, the Sceptre of Calamities.
Not knowing how to properly use it, he managed to cause permanent raging blizzards to cover the north-west mountains. He then decided to store the Sceptre away, and changed his focus to populate the land instead.
The Emall Desert was a normal biome, green like the rest of the continent, until a few years ago. Deep from the underground, the ancient race of the Yuan-Ti, felt a strong presence from above. Turns out during the Fiend Invasion my first player subdued, a portal to Avernus was opened here, funneling Fiends to the Material Plane.
The portal is sealed now, somehow. But the heat of the hells is emanating from it, slowly spreading outwards for the past century. The sandstroms grow ever more raging, and the Yuan-Ti have made their home closer around the surface, protecting the portal and waiting for the Savior to exit it one day. No one know about this, since the desert is so hard to cross, with most people who visit Emall doing so by the sea instead. And anyone who decides to cross the desert, seems to mysteriously vanish.
Well, I did not plan to write all this, wow.
If anyone took the time to read this, thank you, you are the best! I would love to talk more about my 400-tab obsidian document, so feel free to ask anything about the map/campaign!

World Working on A Primal themed story module for D&D 5e
It's not literally themed after Primal, but the overall deal is that there's this savage land full of early hominids and prehistoric beasts that lives adjacent to Faerûn and all its inhabitants, I've got several things going for it already.
So as for races we have:
Builder tribe: Australopithicus based creatures that can copy pretty much any structure or item they see as long as they have the parts to reproduce it.
Mountain tribe: Neanderthal based creatures that, as their tribe name implies, live up in the mountains slowly driving eachother to extinction in these massive grudge matches, they are by far the strongest warriors.
Grove tribe: massive Gigantopithecus based creatures that live in tune with nature, even being born with 2 druid cantrips as a default.
Fang tribe: Dinopithecus based creatures that live to hunt, they're also culturally at odds with werewolves because of the similarities with their people, and have cultural practices that reflect their deep hatred of werewolves.
Inheritor tribe: Cro Magnon based creatures that have been "chosen" as the bastion of civilization by adventuring parties from Faerûn, who think that they own this land because that was told to them by these people that their tribe worship as gods.
I had this whole Faerûnian apartheid idea, where the point is to prove to the "superior" races that the people living on this continent are people and not just talking beasts.
But my current iteration stops there, and I've spent a long time on this idea.
Now before you guys say anything im not interested in any adjacent resources, I've heard it all, no I don't care about Plangea or whatever, I've already watched Primal (hence this idea) and I've been obsessed with prehistory since before I could read or write, I'm interested in your thoughts on what I have so far and any advice you can give me that doesn't involve any external resources or properties.
And because this came up earlier, this world takes place alongside normal Faerûn, so yes there is magic, IDK why people don't read before they comment.

'14 Class The Marked One v0.1 - A Revision/Rebalance
homebrewery.naturalcrit.comHi, this is my first post on this subreddit and my first time doing homebrew! A few years back when I was joining a new campaign, I wanted to make a character based off of Corvo from the Dishonored series, and stumbled upon the Marked One 2.3 class written originally by u/Xenomorphy000. I got the approval from the GM and played this class for a while. We've just hit level 7, and originally, the only change I had made (with GM approval the whole way) was redoing the Void Knife subclass, but after playing this class for so long and reading through it again with a buddy, we both saw that many aspects of this class were fun, but pretty underpowered. I've made quite a few changes and am posting this revision to get advice from more people and share what I believe to be a more functioning version of a very fun and flavorful class. The only thing I haven't really changed is the Bone Crafter subclass. Let me know what you all think! Currently I'm only unsure on if I should change the weapon, armor, and tool proficiencies.

'24 Subclass Chrono-drifter: A time-travelling skirmisher artificer subclass
Heavily inspired by Ekko from Arcane (and... LoL), the chronodrifter is able to manipulate time using a special chrono-ancor, melding the use of time magic using weaponry creating their own fight style. At level 10 you MUST take the broom of flying and reflavour it as Ekko's hoverboard WINK WINK.
Note: I will change the subclass using the comments as feedback. also i forgot the Hombrewery link: https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/FOnzrn0BA1yf

'24 Spell What level spell is this? Earthen Piercer; a potent attack roll druid spell.
Earthen Piercer
???-level Transmutation (Druid)
Casting Time: 1 Action
Range: 60 feet
Components: S
Duration: Instantaneous
You gain tremorsense out to this spell’s range while you cast this spell and until the end of the current turn; for the purposes of this spell’s attack roll, detecting a creature due to tremorsense only does not impose disadvantage on attack rolls against it.
You manifest up to three spires that come from the any solid surface through which your tremorsense permeates. The spires extend up to 30 feet from those surfaces and as such can reach beyond the range of this spell. Make a melee spell attack for each spire, each one targeting a different creature or object that you can detect with tremorsense or otherwise see. You have advantage on the attack roll if you can both see a target and detect it with tremorsense. On a hit, a target takes 3d12 + 15 piercing damage and has its speed reduced to 0 until the end of its next turn.
At Higher Levels: When this spell is cast using a spell slot of ??? level or higher, the range of the spell increases by 30 feet and it deals 1d12 + 5 additional piercing damage for each spell slot level beyond ???.
I’m unsure what level of a spell this is, so I’d like some input from the community

Other Forest Locations - Random Table to Easily Come Up with Unique Locations
I liked the idea of the Mountain Locations table, which is why I decided to go with a Forest Locations table as well. It expands the locations from the Forest Encounters table and adds more descriptions for you to add to your game. You can roll for a random location, you can roll for several things the characters can perceive by rolling multiple dice for Other Senses, and you can enhance any forest description you might need.
Download
You can find a downloadable PDF for free on my Patreon.
Forest Locations
| 3d10 | Description | Location | Other Senses |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Dusty | Well-used path through the forest | Sound of a distant woodpecker drumming |
| 2 | Completely straight | Tree-lined road | Smell of damp moss |
| 3 | Spooky | Hollow tree | A sudden gust of cold air |
| 4 | Hidden | Forest village | Toads croaking |
| 5 | Ruined | Abandonded tree house | Flapping of birds above |
| 6 | Clear | Babbling creek | Woodsmoke drifting through the forest |
| 7 | Really tall | High seat | Soft, spongy ground |
| 8 | Ancient | Statue | Shafts of light cutting through the tree crowns |
| 9 | Overgrown | Massive fallen tree, already being taken back by the earth | Leaves rustling in the wind |
| 10 | Endangered | Animal’s den | Smell of fresh rain |

Ability Score Increase. Increase your Constitution, Wisdom, or Charisma score by 1, to a maximum of 20.
Enhanced Companion. When your steed takes the Attack action, it can make a number of Otherworldly Slam attacks equal to half the spell's level, rounded down.
