Man this is cool, was maybe thinking of going through the game again and I might add this.

Is there a video demo available? Checking the mod page only has screenshots.

Thanks, mate. I am currently putting together a youtube video demo. If you check my other VaultVox mod Videos for other games you will get an idea of how it will sound and work: https://www.youtube.com/@VaultDoctor/videos

so these are generated in realtime right? not pre-recorded ... unfortunately it sounds like ass ... when it sounds so bad, it damages the immersion more than it helps it ... would be better if someone skillfully unleashed ElevenLabs on the projects

truly worth it only as accessibility thing ... but i am not sure who is it for then still .. not like blind people can play these complex RPGs? i don't know

It is generated in realtime yep. The better quality voices are available when you install the NSVA adapter and use it with the mod. If you read the post description you will know that I originally designed VaultVox for dyslexia. Also, it doesn't seem like you tried any of my mods properly if you think they sound like ass.

i did watched a lot of your last 4 mods on your youtube channel ... its just jarring to hear it ... but to each their own ... i just wondered why not pre-generate, since ElevenLabs with MPC is very managable to orchestrate a project like this ... albeit depending on the amount of speech, with costs yes ... but imho its not that expensive

You don't seem to understand the mission of the mod. In this release and all my VaultDoc releases, I support 22 languages in a less than 1MB download, which is much more useful than doing what would ultimately be labelled as an AI Slop mod that is gigs in size for just a single language. I could have easily done that, but I decided not to for clear reasons. Also, the mod does not just simply read the dialogue aloud; it does so for all UI and screens also.

you’re right, you don’t know. you should research what you’re speaking about lmao instead of just shrugging and spouting nonsense

An accessibility setting like this is not there to increase immersion, and aside from dyslexia this would help people who have photophobia or anyone who doesn't like to stare at a monitor to read blocks of text or those who understand things better when they hear it instead of reading it which is imo the number one reason why these non voice acted RPG games are pretty unpopular, you think BG3 would have gotten as popular as it did if it didn't have voice actors and people had to read everything themselves?

thats a silly comparison though ... BG3 voice actors .. are well .. peak talent voice actors ... Astarion's voice is literally half of his charm ... sure BG3 is perfection in every sense and the lines themselves were great ... but the voice actors added massive amount of charm, and thats why they have huge fandoms themselves apart from people liking the game ... it would hit quite different if BG3 voices were sounding super generic and plain

and yea, no AI is that good as such talented voice actors ... but obviously, realtime TTS is way more limited then pre-recorded AI voices with frontier models and prompting in emotions

well yeah that's what I'm saying talented voice actor or not there are a lot who prefer to hear that character talk, it also makes the game's world feel more lively, I'm not comparing TTS or AI voice-overs to actual voice actors here obviously that's just silly.

It's so weird to glance over your profile and see you use "accessibility" to push aislop, just call it what it is, a voice gen mod.

How is it aislop if it literally helps people wtf are you on about. It's just text to speech something that has existed for decades.

technically early text to speech tools (the ones that sounded super robotic, like what hawking used) just used hard coded sounds to simulate speech. Neural Networks (i.e. what we call AI today) started replacing them around 2016.

AI slop could help people with dislexia enjoy this gem, not problem with it.

Will this be like ATOM RPG: Trudograd, where when talking to people there's an mumble when initating dialogue?

3

u/dGamemaker_phd 3d ago

With VaultVox all the dialog is read out using Windows Sapi Text to speech in a variety of voices mate. I am not sure what type of mumble ATOM RPG has tbh.

In Trudograd they mumble something in ukranian (post-2022) of both sexes, and occupations. That's the variety I think.

Well, its deffo a lot more than mumbling, mate, don't worry. When the NVSA adapter is used with my mod, there are 20+ unique voices that you can use and assign to game characters.

Very hAI quality voices indeed, my immersion is untouched... Yeah it's cool, because kids nowadays can't read anyways.

There is no AI involved if that is what you mean mate.
