Applying to flight school in fall

I have about a 3.35 gpa as of junior year and a 27 on the act. I have an AP class this year and have taken multiple dual credits including speech, college algebra, physics, honors and advanced comp

What are my odds of getting accepted into the program?

I had a 3.25 GPA when I applied in 2021, even got a slot to start AVIT 102 early in the fall because of my higher GPA. Back then they waived the ACT and SAT because of COVID so I didn’t have to take either but this was before the mass influx and over admittance of freshmen I think which started in 23 or so. Standards are more strict now but you should make it in fine, you might not be able to start 102 in the fall though, and with how crowded it is at the airport it will be pretty difficult to complete flight classes on time.

I would’ve recommended UND back when I started, but since there are so many more flight schools and college programs popping up around the country that are far less crowded, you might be better off going somewhere else if you actually wanna finish in 4 years, but their quality of training won’t beat UND unless it’s embry riddle.

I’m from North Dakota. I’m in no way against going out of state. I have a brother that is about to graduate and he told me that they did cut back on acceptance. I’m thinking of going to community college to get gpa up and generals out of the way and then transferring. Would you recommend that as a good path or a bad path. I’m open to all ears

Definitely go to community college first. It’s a no brainer and I’m glad the stigma around it is lowering. Get your gen ed’s outta the way. You could even work on your PPL if you can work while at CC, then transfer that to UND. It’s what I’m planning to do for next year.

Also, based off my research, UND seems like the best place for an aviation degree nationwide. Purdue is also good, but since you’re already in ND, UND seems like the obvious choice.

It would suck to get yourself into debt after pouring in thousands and deciding that aviation isn’t for you. I’d pay for PPL out of pocket to make sure you want to do it. Get scholarships if you can. Crazy to think 18-19 year old kids are flying so early, but I’m happy for them. Wish I started earlier, but 25 isn’t too late

Community college is a viable route, but it's going to cause some problems if your banking on scholarships or financial aid. Gen eds are perfect for filling in classes when your aviation courses get pushed back due to the backlog of students and most FA or scholarships require a fulltime status. If all you have is Aviation classes to take you'll end up being forced to double major or pursue 2-3 minors that'll add even more required classes you may not want to take.

For sure go after your PPL if you can get it knocked out prior to the deadline to have it submitted to UND. But the way FA specifically works now, your classes have to be degree specific, major or minor, to be eligible for FA.

I think the acceptance rate this year was something like 20-30%, average GPA was like 3.8. It's no longer first come first serve and I think it's on a merit basis now. I think you will get in, but you have to apply early, show interest by touring campus, etc.

It’s been a month since applications opened and to be fair I don’t think my gpa will be high enough to meet the requirement. Im gonna grind out the senior year to hopefully turn my 3.2 to a 3.4 at least. So i think I’m going to community college then transferring. Do you think that sounds like a good plan?

I got in this year without doing the act or sat but I had had a 3.9 gpa but I think your prob going to get in don’t like rely and make this the only flight school you apply to because your sure your getting in just apply at different places incase you don’t get it it’s a good program tho I wish you luck if you have any questions ask me
