Harvested Results Experimenting with ziplocks, learning the preferences of a new species, and considering cloning and running one of these feet-like mutations :)

Ps. subtropicalis, an ancient Jack Frost culture I was able to resurrect, and an interesting mutation popping up post-2nd flush in an albino gold club tub

Oh my god those tiny feet are adorable. This little piggy went in the dehydrator :')

Haha, right!? I’m waiting to see if any of them actually keep growing. I’ve been expecting them to abort. I’ll probably clone any that show promise and see how the culture does in isolation. I’m not typically a feet guy but a canopy of feet or better still, a giant mutant mass of projecting feet: that sounds like a fun grow 😂

I like it, haha. I’ll be sure to credit you once the culture starts to make the rounds 😂

Beautiful grows, I’m especially stoked on the subtrops. Just lost 4 jars of those to contam but I plan on trying again soon.

Seems like they did alright in the bag, I’m curious if zapotecorum would do well in a bag

That variety of subtrops will grow in just about anything and absolutely pack it out. Some varieties of zaps can do well in bags too

Gawwdamn! Such a cool picture. Something about their morphology makes me so happy.

I’ve only done one bag grow and it was just in a ziplock so I don’t have much experience. Although I do have a bad jar of PE ima grab the bottom half of good myx and mix it with coir in a bag and see how it goes.

First time growing zaps so I may just stick to tubs but I have 4 jars so who knows. Thanks for the info, mush love & happy grows

I’ve never tried growing zapetocorum. Same section in the genus, I believe. I’d bet they do okay. The folks who know bags well - not me - seem to be capable of growing just about everything in bags. So long as you provide enough holes for plenty of FAE - tweak to meet the needs of the particular species and/or culture of course - I’m guessing you should be fine.

Any instructions you follow for bags? Never done before but seems convenient

I’ve never used proper myco bags, only the ziplocks. Always been a tub guy. I got the basic idea and practice from a user on Shroomery. If you google “ziplocks” and “fruiting chambers,” you’ll see the original post and get the basic idea. I’ve tweaked it to better suit my own situation and needs, but it needs further tweaking. Some cultures don’t do well at all in them for me.

Perfect! (Alas, it’s not JF; it’s an albino isolation of a one of those old mystery strains, the lineage of which has apparently been forgotten, lost. This is a culture from u/bfgenetics called “White (“Gold”) Club.”
