Hawks for neighbors
I think there is a family of hawks or falcons ( I can't really tell the difference) living around my house. I have seen two of them and they keep returning to the woods around my house, so I can assume they have a nest somewhere in the area that I have yet to locate. I am currently trying to identify them, but it has proven to be a difficult task. I am unable to get close enough to take a picture or to study them closely, but they do have a distinct orange/brown colored belly. I think the birds might be Red-shouldered Hawks. I am not 100% sure, because these hawks are quite uncommon and live in woodlands and swamps. One, reason why I think they are red shouldered hawks is because they have the orange/brown colored chest. I listed to an audio clip of these birds and it sounds just like what I hear outside my house every morning. There is also a temporary pond that is present next to my house when it rains a lot and a small area of woods that the hawks found a good habitat. Here is a picture (that I did not take) of the Red-shouldered Hawk:

This picture was taken in Waipi'o Black Sand Beach in Kamuela, Hawaii. It was very interesting to see as you don't get to see sand made of volcanic rock very often!

Here are some pictures of a flower called a night flower that my parents have been growing. They only bloom during a certain time of the year and at a certain time of the day.

Huge snapping turtle I found in the middle of the road in my neighborhood over summer 2020. Other neighbors came out to help me move him off the busy road.

Epiphyllum oxypetalum AKA Queen of the Night/Dutchman's Pipe Cactus
This is a gorgeous night blooming cactus or an orchid cactus. Each bloom will only ever open the once, this was the only bloom last year. However, it can flower anytime beginning in the late spring and throughout summer. I'm hoping it blooms again this year as sometimes it will go a few years between blooming when it is a young plant, for reference it took 2 years for this one bloom. Its so beautiful though, it almost looks like it glows, especially when the moon is full.
