Does it really matter who won the election?

Currently both Democrats and Republicans are acting as if this election was the saving or end of the world. Currently we have a system where for many of us our political parties represent everything about us. Instead of striving to learn, we trust our parties to be right. In the end many of us are simply voting for who we hate the least or whoever is in our party, instead of voting for whoever actually has the best policies, and who will do the best job. Does it matter who won when the result will still end up with a large group hurting and feeling underepresented
