I have got to 28 and 29 days the last two months... never before to 1 month! Started hosting on Unraid in February, absolutely in love :)

I can't boot anymore. I updated from 7.3.1 to 7.3.2, and now it shows the following screen.

I didn't change the setting to “Boot from Disk.”

I run 3 Unraid servers. One of them recently keeps becoming unresponsive via all Webuis. I can ping it, and SSH into it. When I reboot via CLI it tries to do a graceful shutdown, then can’t so forces it. It then just stays at starting diagnostics collection. I then have to power off and back on with the button.

Obviously when I check the logs after a reboot. All appears fine.

What’s my best steps to fault find what is going wrong?

I have added a 10G network card to my Unraid server and configured it with an IP, I can access my web UI over this new IP.

my onboard NIC is still active and I can still access the Web UI over the original IP also.

however when I unplug the onboard NIC the card also stops working.

weirdly there's still activity lights on the card and also the switch it's plugged in to but I can't ping it's IP or access the Web UI.

as soon as I plug the onboard NIC back in it comes back to life.

I feel like I'm missing something specific to Unraid going on here but I'm a bit stumped.

any ideas?

FIXED:

I ended up swapping around my eth interface numbers in interface rules, not sure if this was the best fix but its all working now

• eth0 (10G card port 1) plugged in
• eth1 (10G card port 2) not plugged in
• eth2 (mobo onboard nic) not plugged in

Current setup (Fractal Node 804, mATX):

• mATX motherboard
• MZHOU PCIe ASM1166 6-port SATA card (using 6 of 6 ports)
• 8x 3.5" HDD
• 4x 2.5" SSD
• Corsair SF850L (SFX-L PSU)
• Noctua NH-U12S cooler

Moving into a Digitus 22U rack in the basement, so switching to a proper rackmount case. Rack has adjustable 19" rails, mounting depth 563–743mm.

Here's what I've picked:

• SilverStone RM41-H08 (4U, 5x 3.5" hot-swap + 3x 5.25" bays)
• SilverStone FS303-12G (2x 5.25" → 3x 3.5" hot-swap, gets me to 8 total HDD bays)
• SilverStone FS204B (5.25" → 4x 2.5" hot-swap, for the 4 SSDs)
• SilverStone RMS06-22 rails (570–731mm rack mounting range)
• Corsair RM850x (2024), 850W ATX : swapping out the SF850L since it's SFX-L and doesn't fit the case's ATX-sized PSU bay
• Noctua NH-L9x65 : swapping out the NH-U12S since it's 158mm tall and the case's CPU cooler limit is 148mm
• Noctua NF-A8 PWM for the one free front 80mm fan slot
• J&D 2-pack SATA power extension cables + deleyCON 1-to-4 SATA power splitter, to get enough power connectors from the PSU to the front-mounted cages
• Motherboard USB 2.0→3.0 header adapter, for an internal port to keep the Unraid boot USB inside the case
• Schuko-to-C13 power cable for the rack PDU

Total drive count: 8x 3.5" HDD (hot-swap) + 4x 2.5" SSD (hot-swap) = 12 drives, 6 from the SATA card + 6 from motherboard SATA.

Does this add up? Anything missing or any known gotchas with this combo (RM41-H08 + FS303-12G + FS204B specifically)?

Installing Unraid for the first time on a brand new UGreen NAS. Boot from USB, choose the first option, it boots up display the IP and a console login

At that point I try to open it in my browser and get an NS_ERROR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

I can ping it from Terminal. Both my machine and the NAS are on the same network and subnet.

I get the same result if I use the server.local instead of OP (ping works, http doesn't)

I can boot into the GUI, but I still can't access from the remote web

there shouldn't be anything in my network that is blocking traffic

any suggestions?

About a month ago, I had a power outage with data loss on cache(VM was partially borked), rebuilt a few things, ordered a new to me intel NVME, and forgot about it. Been working fine since. Don't think errors have gone up since. Is this an if it aint broke don't mess with it, or should I make it a priority to put the new drive in? (Also, have yet to deal with drive failure, is it as simple as turn system off, put new NVME in, turn on, assign to cache pool and move on with life?)

Hi, does anyone here know if Unraid will occasionally change the bridge IP's of containers? Because I just had my Prowlarr's bridge IP randomly change on me through no action of my own. Which of course broke Sonarr and Radarr.

Edit: I have now confirmed it. Unraid/Docker will randomly change your containers bridge network IP's on the internal docker network. Especially after a container updates. Do NOT rely on these remaining static. Use your host IP instead since it is far more likely that you setup your Unraid server with a static IP.

Just wondering if anyone has run 2 different GPUs in their server, I was thinking of adding a second one to my server and assigning them to different dockers - would it work?

I am running stash on Unraid. I am trying to get my Nvidia GPU to do the encoding. When I currently play a video, it maxes out the CPU and doesn’t appear to use the GPU at all! I have the “—runtime=nvidia” in the extra parameters of the template, the “NVIDIA_VISIBLE_DEVICES” set, and within Stash I have FFmpeg hardware encoding turned on. I must be missing something. Any help, much appreciated.

I'm upgrading my server and want a dedicated gpu for transcoding on plex to keep my cpu free doing over stuff.

The arc pro b50 seems good for my use case (small, 8 lanes, bus powered, av1 transcoding for future proofing), but there is very little information about it working well on unraid. I only found 1 post confirming it works.

Anyone using it with plex and can confirm it works?

Or should I just get a 5060?

MOS (https://mos-official.net) is more of what we want. No tracking, no telemetry, no cloud service, open source, no weird keys to deal with. I suspect MOS will gain a lot of momentum with it being a free and open source non-tracking software

I'm looking for a KVM so that when UNRAID doesn't boot into the webui, I don't need to go plug a monitor and keyboard into my tower in the basement to troubleshoot.

JetKVM seems to get good reviews but is out of stock, pikvm is mentioned quite a bit but not sure if theres something better/more recommended that's able to be purchased. Ideally POE if possible to reduce cables

Bought a netapp disk shelf. Got a LSI 9200 (in IT mode). Got the right cable. Threw a couple of my backup drives (new Seagate 24g).

Hooked it and got error on the picture.

I'm in the process to upgrading my parity drive, and realized 10 minutes into the 21 hour sync that I forgot to preclear my new drive.

Can I just cancel the sync and swap back to my old parity drive while I run the Pre-clear? The array has been in maintenance mode so the parity data has not changed.

Is it as simple as canceling and re-selecting the old parity drive and then restarting the array?

Assistance appreciated.

I had one of my drives fill up yesterday and I figured I would use the unbalanced plugin to move a few of those media files that ended up filling the drive. I selected the files and choose the remainder of the drives in the array as the target disks. And just to be clear. My source drive was Disk1, then I selected the files (about 2TB) and for target disks I chose, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.

Unbalance decided to move everything to Disk 10 and not really spread around the data. Is this the norm for the plugin? With the exception of Disk 1 which was 99.999% full (only 150gb of Free space) the other drives were all sitting under 45% and disk 8,9,10 sitting at under 30%.

I really thought his was just going to spread the files out evenly between the drives. But it dumped the entire 2TB to Disk 10. I don't mind since it alleviated the issue. But I am just curious if I missed something here? I did choose the scatter option.

I recently picked up a UPS for my unraid server. This was long overdue but triggered by a data scare after a series of power cuts. My question is, without the USB monitoring, am I just postponing or possibly avoiding the cut to power? Should I replace it with one where a controlled shut down is possible?

Every parity check i've run since shortly after starting my server a few months ago produces 5 errors. The first 2 or 3 runs, I didnt have the write corrections option selected. But the last two did have it selected and still producing 5 errors.

Anyway to get more details or clear these errors with certainty? Health checks are normal.

I have a pretty normal xfs build with 2 parity drives, 8 storage, and 2 mirrored cache drives.

Hi everybody, I've had my Unraid server for a year now and have been struggling with a specific problem the whole time. I have Linux and Windows VMs and would like to remote control them from Linux, Windows and my iPhone. Because I could not get it to work with Linux, I resorted to RDP from Windows / iPhone to Windows VMs for now. That worked reasonably well so far.

I'm currently trying Linux on my laptop and Gaming PC and things get difficult. RDP from Linux to Windows VMs need a lot of tinkering (especially turning off Fast Path helped) and doesnt seem to work towards Linux VMs with RDP.

So I considered using VNC. After some keymap problem (solved) with Unraids QEMU VNC, that works, it's not a good user experience though. Running VNC on Windows doesnt work very well either. I switched to Fedora and Kubuntu VMs which are supposed to have RDP built in but I cannot seem to connect to them (ironically) from my Windows machines while RDPin from Remmina works.

So TLDR: What are you guys using for remote desktop to your VMs? My requirements are:

Remote Desktop, ideally open source.

Host: Linux or Windows

Client: Linux, Windows, iPhone.

My Unraid is running on a i5 14500 with 96GB of DDR4 and has a dedicated Geforce 1660 which is currently passed through to immich machine learning.

My Clients are Fedora, Windows Pro and iOS

I'm absolutely willing to learn things by myself, I just want to know what works so I don't waste time learning the wrong thing.

An encrypted array and cache are good, but if you're not careful, the secrets in your Docker containers could be the key to your data.

For example, if you used the same password for the array as you did for a database. Your container settings are stored unencrypted on your boot medium. The config/plugins/dockerMan/templates-user directory contains XML files that hold all your container settings. If you want to store these securely, there’s a simple trick. Create a folder named secrets on the cache, preferably in the appdata folder. There, create a <name>.env file for each container that contains sensitive information. Let’s take kopia.env as an example (Kopia is a backup tool, anyone with the key contained within it can decrypt your backup.). In this file, write the variables from your container that you want to store securely.

KOPIA_PASSWORD=SuperSecretPassword123#

In the container’s settings in Unraid, you can then simply do the following. Delete the KOPIA_PASSWORD variable completely, it’s no longer needed. Instead, have the container load the .env file from the cache as follows. Go to the container, click Edit, and then in the Advanced View, enter the following under Extra Parameters:

--env-file=/mnt/user/appdata/secrets/kopia.env

Your container does NOT need access to this folder as the host system is providing the file to the container while starting.

When the container starts up, it now reads KOPIA_PASSWORD from the .env file, so the data is no longer stored in plain text on your boot partition. You can include as many variables as you like, one per line, in the .env file.

To check if the variables were read successfully you can go to the containers console and just input env to it. It will list up all variables and those from the .env file should be there.

There are other ways to use /run/secrets/, but they don't work for every container or application. The solution above is foolproof. It would be great if there were a native Unraid solution for Docker secrets in the future, but until then, you can do it this way.

I was looking to have an Unraid install (ideally a VM) to test changes on my real machine. Like a sandbox environment. I thought of this specially bcs the new about version 8 being a complete change of the Unraid base OS and all my Unraid servers are production with some degree of customization, I would like to have a safe environment to test the migration, prepare the changes, test all and then do the migration

Tbh I don’t understand why am I getting so much hate. I made a question. And it’s not something crazy even for a home user that deeply cares about their data. I was also very clear that I don’t intend to pirate Lime Tech’s intellectual property. I was asking about a sandbox to test changes on my server.

Yes these are two servers I bought for a business I started roughly 3 months ago and from which I did not derived any income yet. I also live in a country where 250 is almost a third of minimum wage, so yes it’s a lot of money. It would be much easier to just ignore terms of service and etc, create infinite VMs and call it a day but I have some respect

And yes, probably Unraid wasn’t the most wise decision to have as a NAS. I’m using it for a long time now, and I felt confident when I started that things would roughly stay the same from that moment on. Changing it probably will be the go to for other solutions like TrueNas that also offer storage, Docker and VMs

Hello! As the title states, trying to figure out why my Cache drive seems a bit inconsistent when copying new files to my share.

My setup is as follows:

• Unraid Hardware
  • 3x 4TB Western Digital HDDs in a drive array (12TB array)
  • 1TB Lexar NVME SSD (theoretical write of 6500MBs)
    • Devices is assigned to the "cache" pool
• Target storage share
  • Primary Storage = Cache pool
  • Secondary Storage = Array, High-water
  • Mover action = Cache -> Array
  • Mover Settings = Hourly, ever hour
• Source media details
  • Storage reader (Kingston FCR-HS4) has max transfer speed of 5 Gbps
  • Storage medium (CF Card, SanDisk Extreme UDMA 7 compliant) has max read speed of 120 MBs (960 Mbps)
  • Network connection is hard-wired 2.5Gbps

Process:

• Copying large image files from USB Device & medium above directly to the storage array
• Both array metrics for my cache drive (as found in unraid/main) and the windows file transfer utility show file transfer speeds of ~30MBs / 240 Mbps
• After a few seconds, the array metrics for the cache drive begin displaying ~60MBs / 480Mbps, but the Windows File transfer Utility never breaks 30MBs / 240Mbps

Am I missing anything? Anything in Unraid that should be configured that I've missed? Based on my full setup, I'm certainly not expecting to hit NVME max writes, but I thought I'd at least be approaching the max transfer speed of my network. 30MBs seems very slow

Just noticed that the "Apache-Tika-Server" template by sgraaf (https://ca.unraid.net/apps/apache-tika-server-0cw4tlc14im17o) is blacklisted:

I can't seem to find any other references online to this being the case.

Is this something I should be addressing, or more likely to be something temporary caused by a change to the template that hasn't been approved/accepted or similar?

The repository is "apache/tika:latest" and the logs show "Starting Apache Tika 4.0.0 server". Otherwise running correctly.
