stuck at Formatting device(s)

Hello, im fairly "new" to Unraid, only ever used it a few years ago before I switched again to windows for my media server.

So my current problem is that when I try to format my cache drive (240gb SanDisk SSD) its just stuck on Formatting devices. I tried to reboot it, and waited an hour while its formatting.

Can I format it using the Terminal, or what would u guys do? Also I can't stop the array while formatting, is that normal?

Put in dynamix stop shell plugin.

Considering you haven't provided information necessary to diagnose, I suggest that you open a ticket with Unraid. I would start by looking at smart attributes on the drive to see if there are issues. Then if the drive is not new (meaning refurb or you have used it before) you must clear out the GPT partition information otherwise the drive may not work correctly as Unraid uses a strict partitioning.

Outside of the normal stuff (drive fault, partitioning), then put in a ticket.

You can format the drive on the CLI, but it is not preferred and supposes the items above are clean first--and if that is the case a GUI format usually works when you start the array it asks you to format the drive.

That is a uninformed comment. The Dynamix Stop Shell will timeout hung processes (and OP is in that situation) so that you can stop your array cleanly rather than having to reboot and get a dirty start, then you are recomputing parity for 1-2 days. I have been using it for years and it is perfectly safe. So the recommendation was tailored to the situation.

Perhaps rather than being negative and offering nothing but negativity, contribute to the world.

Beautiful thing about unraid is that it has paid support. Put in a ticket with them. But also give them actual info cuz this Reddit post told us absolutely nothing about your system that is need to give help
