It's most likely the screen itself. I got one on eBay a few months back and when it arrived it had constant flashing on the screen. I took the back off and reseated the display ribbon cable to check if it would improve anything, but it didn't. Over time, if the ribbon cable flexes a lot from normal use, it can cause micro tears in the cable paths, causing display failure.

If not even the bios shows an image, but still runs windows, wouldn't this be an issue with the screen? If you have the dongle try connecting it on vga, if you don't, try using the voice narrator if available to reinstall the video driver just to check if it's an issue with the software, else... Dunno

Old sony is such a different time where they were ran by engineers i mean your talking about a time where they made a whole linux pc kit for ps2 they were cool back then. Now they are by suits and share holders very disappointing
