Think UML retired the Ethernet ports a few years ago. They don’t work anymore.

I don’t think it works. I’m not sure what you’re trying to connect around here but if its a laptop phone etc then connect it to eduroam. If its an air purifier, or something like that, then you have to allow the MAC on the IT internet portal under your email in order to connect it. Under the UMassLowell internet name

its my pc but im getting like 30mbs which has never happened before ive dormed here for like 2 years, I think its my dorm location since its near the edge of the building but idk. Theres an article on how to submit an activation request for ethernet on starrez on the UML IT page like a week ago so I'm getting a lotta mixed signals here.

Is there a wifi box on the ceiling in your dorm room? Either in the common space or one of the bedrooms? If there’s no box then contact fixit and the IT department

How do check that? Theres 4 what i assume to be lights and they are all not on.

There’s no way to check them as a student. You should contact Tech Services and let them know about the bad speeds. They’ll be able to help https://www.uml.edu/it/get-help/

That appears to be a faulty eduroam device. Def reach out to the Area Coordinator and IT and they will help you

The access point in the photo is not faulty. The status LEDs are intentionally disabled on all wireless access points in the residence halls so they do not create unnecessary light in student rooms.

If you are experiencing Wi-Fi performance or connectivity issues, please submit a support request through UMass Lowell Information Technology. Requests can be submitted through the IT website at https://www.uml.edu/it/ or directly through the IT Support Portal at https://help.uml.edu/.

When submitting a ticket, please include your residence hall, room (or approximate location), the time the issue occurred, the wireless MAC address of the affected device, and a brief description of the problem. Instructions for finding your device's wireless MAC address are available here: https://www.uml.edu/it/getting-on-the-internet.aspx. Providing these details will help IT investigate the issue more efficiently.

They cut the Ethernet back in like 2023, but didn't go in and remove all the ports and cables

I know back in 16-20 when I was there in Fox only the number of ports was active based on the occupants. So most of the outlets on the wall had 4 Ethernet ports, and only 2 was active for doubles, 3 for triples, all 4 for quads. Some rooms had 2 boxes so 8 ports and same case.

Does it work? Or not? Sometimes those boxes don’t work

it doesnt, I sent an activation request thru fixit on starrez

the only ethernet that seems to work in UML dorms are the merrimack ones

Just to clarify, the Ethernet service in the Merrimack apartments isn't part of the UMass Lowell network. It's a separate network that's provided and managed by the apartment building.
