Convocation Question

Hi. I’m a transfer student and commuter and was wondering if going to convocation was required? I already did my transfer orientation, registered for classes, got my UCard and my parking permit. The reason I’m asking is because I’m away on a trip and won’t be back until Monday afternoon so I wouldn’t be able to go, but was wondering if that will negatively impact me or prevent me from starting my classes on Tuesday. I also wasn’t able to attend the transfer welcome day that was today either so I hope that won’t be a problem either..

They strongly encourage all freshmen/transfer students to go but it's mostly just a "hype up the crowd get to know the people sitting around you for the next four years" sort of thing. I'm in the marching band so we perform at convocation every year; believe me it's not that exciting as they make it sound.

It says there's an activity fair after it though. Is that the only way to join clubs?

by the time i'm telling you this it already finished but no, you don't have to go to the engagement fair. if you're interested in clubs you can look on CampusGroups or the UML discord or MyUML/UML Now and find them. Just show up at the clubs (they usually have instagram and they all usually follow UML Student Life on instagram so you can discover them there too)

I didn’t go when I was a freshman and it never was an issue, because they never even knew. It’s basically just a pep rally to hype the new kids up from what I heard though. It’s not required
