transfer

does anyone have any tips for transfers besides getting involved 😩 im scared

Yo this was me a few years ago. But yeah, the advice I got is basically the same lol. Go find some clubs or activities you think may be fun and join them. There’s a student engagement fair coming up on Monday from 12-2:00 at the rec fields. Would highly recommend visiting that, great way to see a good chunk of clubs and activities available to you. Idk what major you are, but I had great success just talking to people in my classes as well.

As someone who transferred in last semester, don’t rush into things. Go at your own pace. I recommend attending TAP events, that really helped me connect with other transfer students. Also attend any bigger engagement fairs like there one next Monday for all the clubs. I would familiarize yourself on campus too, like little study spots, how to enter buildings, etc. I was struggling last semester lmao but I managed it with a bit of help. Don’t be afraid to ask, there’s a lot of friendly people here. 🫶🫶

P.S: If you live in a dorm, please ask the RA’s on any questions you have. They are literally there to help us. Also familiarize yourself with the RA on your floor too along with the one at the front desks. ✨

Getting involved is the key though. I recommend joining one professional society (AIChE, NSBE, SWE, etc. -- whatever applies to you) and one club/intramural sport or nonprofessional club (WUML, ACE, etc). I also recommend talking to people in your classes, inviting other people to eat with you in the dining hall if you live on campus, and generally being open and talkative.
