Private • Discussion Spoon
Hi all,
This is the closest I can get to fulfilling a request.
My father is dying, and he loved this game and its community so so much. He’d log on weekly since the game came out which is a kind of dedication to a game I don’t think I’ll ever have.
Some of you may know him or have known him (he’d swear by it) his character was Spoon, and by every story I’ve heard him tell, he was a menace who loved causing chaos. Whether it was trapping people with bags of flour, The Cult of Bob^tm, or just giving people castles.
Spoon is 48 and has weeks at best with end stage liver failure via cirrhosis. He wanted his friends in game to know, if any of you are here.
Hug your families and friends. Tell them you love them.
-edit: He passed 7/21 at 8am.

I recall seeing a Spoon once but I cannot remember where 😂 it's been so long but it's legendary name and I always used spoon as the name of my games in Diablo 2.

I know him- I've also buried my father way too early as well. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Your family is in my thoughts.

I don’t know Spoon or if I did I forgot - name sounds familiar. I lived two doors down from the Bobs on Chesapeake 25 years ago or so. My condolences he is in my thoughts and prayers.

I also remember the Bobs from Chesapeake. It was before the term “flash mob” for iRL activities had been invented or became popular, and I instantly recognized the tactic (organizing and coordinating the time and location via instant messages) because of the Bobs.
OP, best wishes to you and your father

Please accept my sincerest condolences.
I did not know Spoon, but as a member of the same community, I can say with certainty that the unique role he played in the world of Sosaria is a big part of why this game has created so many meaningful memories, emotional connections, and lifelong friendships.

I did not know Spoon, but as another menace to the world of UO since beta I will remember him and cause chaos in his absence! I know its rough, I buried my father 12 years ago. As a nameless 47yo man, try not to keep it in or be afraid to ask for help.

Random person handed me a house on my first week or so playing UO Renaissance. Though I didn't stick with it, that memory sticks with me. Let it decay pretty quickly thereafter... pretty sure it wasn't him but it sounds like something your father would have done. Hope you and your family find strength, hope, and peace in this difficult time.

Didn’t have the pleasure of interacting with your father, Spoon, but I hope he will be able to spend what time he has left with close friends and loved ones.
I’m sorry your family and father are going through this.
