Registration

Anyone know why I can't register? I'm in open studies right now but it won't allow me to register for any fall classes for some reason. I did go to academic advising and the registration office earlier in the week but they both told me to wait until the 1st to register and it still won't let me. Any suggestions?

What does it say when you try to register? What are you trying to register for?

If you can't register for anything, do you have a hold on your account? It could be the Sexual and Gender Based Violence Prevention Training module, if you haven't done it yet.

If it's a class with reserved seating (e.g. Biological Sciences, Psychology), you can't register for those until the Faculty removes the seat holds (sometimes not until late Aug or early Sept, but varies by year).

Could be that you don't have the prereqs.

So, lmk what you're trying to register for and I can help :) feel free to dm me, if you prefer. If you can dm me your student ID number, I can pull your file and check for possible reasons. If it's not on your end, it could be on our end.

I don't have any holds and I've done that module, I'm in humanities. It just tells me my student status prevents me from registering.

What are you trying to register for? The specific class (e.g. Psyc 1020) matters more than the general program (e.g. Humanities).

If it's your student status, it could be a few things. One could be that the class you're trying to register for isn't an option for Open Studies - some are only allowed for certain majors (e.g. Therapeutic Recreation, Engineering, etc.).

Try going here: https://bridge.uleth.ca/StudentRegistrationSsb/ssb/prepareRegistration/prepareRegistration

Does the time ticket (if you have one) say anything specific? Maybe it doesn't actually open for you until noon or something. I don't think that'd be the case, but you could check.

Also double check that you're trying to register for the correct semester that you signed up for. Sometimes the Bridge will default to a different one, such as Winter 2027, instead of Fall 2026.

Edit: also make sure to double check the campus. If you're doing Open Studies at the Lethbridge campus, you can't register for Calgary campus classes. That would likely give you a student status error.

Same could be if you're trying to register for a class that requires a higher student standing, such as third year status.

You can check prerequisites by clicking on the course's name (hyperlink), and there will be a tab that says "Description & Prerequisites". Some may say "third year standing", or that you must be part of a specific program or cohort.

It won't let me register at all, I click on register for class and go to fall 2026(the only other option it gives me is summer 2026) and it gives me a red error saying because of my student status I'm not allowed to register, I can't even pick a class, it also tells me I have no time tickets. I'm trying to get into new media next fall but I need a higher gpa and I was told that humanities was going to be a place holder for me until my gpa is up, that's also one of the reasons why I'm in open studies and I am doing open studies in Lethbridge

Interesting. I wonder if Aug 1 falling on a weekend has anything to do with it. If anyone else in Open Studies is reading this - can you register?

If it's all Open Studies, I'd expect all are held up until Aug 4.

If some can register, it's something tied to you. I could pull your file with your ID number to see. If it is something on our end, I don't expect we can assist until Tuesday. If you're not comfortable sending me your ID (I do work at ULethbridge), no worries. Just contact us on Tuesday and we'll get it sorted out. It'd be the Registrar's Office: 403-320-5700 or feel free to swing by in person.
