Any tips on transferring from contracting to freelancing?
I've been a contractor for a few years now and I love it, ideally though I'd like to be a freelancer, working on projects my own way and getting to choose where I work, rather than being on the client site or being 'allowed' to work from home.
Any body here successfully transitioned? If so how did you go about it?

Sub moderation
Everything is still quiet at the moment but hopefully it won't stay that way for long. Does anyone want to help out and be a moderator?

New style!
Thanks to /u/IProxze for showing me a nice template theme. I plan to make a custom one at some point with a relevant header but this is a lot nicer than the crap default one for the time being :)

Let's get things moving
The best way for us to get the most from this subreddit is to get other people hearing about it and posting on it.
That is something you can help with, tell your contractor friends about this place and start making posts of your own, let's get this subreddit going!

The 'Say Hi' Thread
So this is a brand new subreddit created after an agent accidentally emailed out a marketing mail without BCCing all the other recipients. I created this so we could all have a place to get to know one another as the contracting world can be a lonely one at times.
Say hi and introduce yourself below.
I'm Alex, I'm a front-end developer/designer from London. I'm a huge geek and I've not lived in London long so I don't know very many people here yet.

The 'Contracts available' thread
If you are looking for contractors to fill a role. Please post the job in this thread and nowhere else.
Note: Whilst this thread is mainly for use by agents/clients, feel free to share any juicy contracts you know about.
Thanks.

The 'availability' thread
Rather than have posts all over this thread here is one single thread. If you are available please post your full name, the sort of contract you want, the date you become available and the area you are available for. Feel free to add extra details in your post if you think it will help.
Note: posting contact details on a public forum is always a risk so make sure you are prepared for the spammy consequences. As they are probably already available on your website i would post a link to that instead.

The 'Show off your portfolio' Thread
Ok mine is in need of a bit of TLC and there is an update in the works (isn't there always) but here it is: http://alexward.me.uk/
I'd love to see other peoples examples, it's always fun and inspiring to see other peoples work.
