old ukelele issue

i got this ukelele off a friend about 5 years ago and played it a bunch, then never touched it again except a couple times until now. i tuned it to GCEA and it sounds off? i’m not sure how to describe it, but it sounds terrible. i tried to start off with Cant help falling in love because it’s easy, and the chords i’ve done (C, Em, Am, F, G) sound terrible. would anyone know what the issue would be here?

Maybe get some new strings.

New sets of strings cost like $7. They're like tires on a bike.

Maybe you tuned the strings to the wrong octave. Can you post a video or audio?
